Retired and searching for new area since lifelong location has changed in ways detrimental to a safe, friendly, neighborly, conservative lifestyle. Two long-time neighbors left Montgomery Cty, MD for the Villages over a year ago. They are very pleased with their decision. Your videos are very good in providing needed information for what to expect at Villages; thank you so much.

Hi Jerry and Linda, my wife and I came to visit over Thanksgiving and loved it. We spent 4 days here and primarily came based on your youtube commentary. Keep up the good work. I am about 2 years out from retirement but this video really helped me with the expenses. I live in Denver Colorado currently and your expenses are about 20% less than what I spend (excluding the amenities fee and possible the bond fee). Gasoline prices in Florida were about 40 cents less than Denver, and Denver has production of oil and refineries adjacent to Denver. One thing I would be interested in is your experience in house hunting (maybe you covered this), VLS vs. and or MLS. I was not impressed with the guy that was showing us around from the Villages.
    tks again and Merry Christmas
    Mike Smith

Mike - Colorado is the most beautiful state in the country - My son lives in Winter Park and I LOVE it - It depends on what you want but If I had a choice between Florida or Colorado I would choose Colorado any day, but it can be expensive - I spend summers in western NY state and winters in the mountains in Arizona and yy expenses are about 1/3 of what these people spend - The Villages are like summer camp for adults with all kinds of activities and many people love it but it is not for everyone - I have visited and had fun for a short time but would not want to live there - It is regimented and all over 55 and I like to see children - It seemed a bit contrived to me and I prefer a more natural setting - I guess I would say it's a good place to vacation but not to live - Florida is flat without much natural beauty and Colorado is gorgeous!!! - Arizona is also beautiful with deserts, mountains, and great weather - That is just my opinion - I would say rent for a year before you buy anything permanent - I rented for four years before I bought a house and made sure it was where I wanted to be - Good luck with your retirement

Great information guys, I enjoy your vlogs very much as they are well researched and presented, thank you. Congrats on your one year anniversary you seem very happy. Some costs to me seemed high others very low, the water cost seemed ridiculously low for home and lawn care. We are on Meters up here in 🇨🇦 and pay for every drop, last couple of summers we don't even water the grass, it looks good brown:) The Villages is not affordable for us just because of the exchange rate and extra cost of owning a foreign property. Take care all the best.

I was wondering why your HOA fee was so low until I heard that lawn care and landscaping weren't included. I"m feeling better about what we pay now because we don't have to manage/hire anybody but a cleaning service if we want. Everything outside the house is covered except killing the weeds in our driveway. We do have a private pool that my husband maintains. I'll bet you agree that even with the rules, etc., it's better to look at palm trees than snow. And as you said in another video, up north we stay inside during the winter, in the south we stay inside during the summer. I appreciate your information. We found that finding a house in Florida was difficult because so many communities are gated. You can't just drive around without a realtor and find a neighborhood that you're interested in. I like learning about other communities, not because I think where I live is "better" or "worse", rather because it gives me a better sense of Florida and where I now live.

It is very hard to compare the cost of living across the board. County (or city) taxes vary tremendously even within a state. Home, car insurances vary. Water/sewer/garbage fees are skyrocketing in FL and some counties are imposing fines for recycling issues. ...Costs of operating a car vary by state and yearly tag fees used to be very low in FL. FL has no income tax and they make up for it with having lots of fees and sales taxes.

Dora? We like going there too. I must say it is not cheap living anywhere these days. It sounds like you have a very nice life in the villages. Good luck to you both and you have a cute little doggie! Also I was wondering if you have a HOA? We do have that but not an Amenities Fee. Also, do you play golf too Linda? I have tried but really am very bad at it! I enjoy watching your vids-keep up the good work!

After a year you should apply for Homestead Exemption on your property taxes. It will cap your yearly increase and reduce your taxable base.

Very insightful! We've been hesitant due to the heat in the summer and apparent congestion during the winter. How has both impacted you?

That’s great! I’ve always heard about snakes and gators in Florida and I was just wondering. Especially since you are so close to a Reserve. You must have a pretty high fence in the back. You guys seem to be happy and that is all that matters. Thanks so much for sharing your life with us.

I am hoping I can continue to live in the Villages. The costs seem to be getting higher, just like everything else. I do love the fact that people are so nice and like to help you. My neighbors and friends... are great.

I’d rather be full time in my RV. This confirms it. No more stick and brick for me!! Thank you for this information 🙏🙏

We were just across the Interstate from there staying for free in our RV. It was amazing how many golf carts there were at the Publix! If you are a wanderer by nature you’ll be far happier in an RV. If you aren’t nomadic, well, you’d get sick of the moving, etc., pretty quickly and somewhere like the Villages would work. Here’s hoping you do the RV!

To give you a perspective on property tax, up the road in Gainesville we paid over $1000 per month for an only slightly bigger home. I’m sure that your bill with the increase was a surprise, but generally for Florida, with no income tax , etc, etc. you are doing great on that end, and I congratulate you on that low rate! Some of your other costs like garbage and sewage were considerably lower as well, so good news!
Odd about the trail fee. I know you are odd if you don’t have a personal golf cart in the villages, but that fee would really annoy me.
I think there are certainly better golf community opportunities out there for costs, but I’m not sure what you mainly moved there for. I would not short change pest and termite in Central Florida!!! Get a solid price and plan, but you will have trouble selling if you don’t have good records and infestation can happen quickly.
Congratulations on your first year of retirement! We retired this past June to a horse farm in the mountains of North Carolina and couldn’t be happier. We have lots to do, or not, but focus on travel for the time being.

You may want to look at having your home professionally treated for termites. They are common in Florida and can do extensive damage.

Block and stucco home, no basement. The companies charge a bunch the first year, then $150ish annually. Don't want termites, but don't want to throw money away either.
