I just purchased the alpha 50 evo's and you are very right when you say that the low end is palpable. Even tho the 50 evo don't reach as low, i could feel the bass resonating in my chest, even at low listening levels.

I bought a pair of Rokit 8G4s and sent them back. They had a great sound but the hiss was too much. I wanted front ported so I went up the price ladder to the Alpha 80 Evo, I haven't run them in fully yet, so I don't know what's coming, but they do lack some of the sharpness of the Rokits. I don't think that's too much of a bad thing though. The soundstage is amazing and I've already heard sounds on tracks I know really well that I've never heard before. One of the biggest differences is the bass extension. Despite what everyone says about the Rokits the Focals go further. I have a couple of tests I do and on both the Focals definitely passed where the Rokits failed.
In case you're wondering, I use Jean Michel Jarre Oxygene 19, around 3:30 there is a bass drop. I do a comparison between my reference headphones and speakers to see what it should sound like.
The other is The Prodigy, Skylined from the Music for the Jilted Generation album. In the intro, there are some bass drops that should ooze out of the speakers and flow away rather than cut off.

What really clinched the EVO 80, over similar products was the built-in wall mounting points. It's a shame that they don't get mentioned in this video.

I have the 80 EVO for 2 weeks now and i cant agree. Sure there is some quality in this product but it shoes off so rearly. So for make things clearly. The 80 EVO low end is impressiv but its not realy dynamic. Kicks are so shy that i have massed up a lot of mixes. Clarity is really good but metals sounds sharp. This speakers are really good for slow or minimalistic electronic such as Trap or basic Techno. But i mix Metalcore/ Alternative and some sorts of faster Psytrance/ DnB and cant get along with them. For this price you get proper 5 inch Monitors with a way better performance. Hope i can help out.

@@thopacalypso4269 I can higly recommand the EVE SC205 as an options with more kick! If you pair it with a EVE TS107 Sub you will have a Perfect small system for Music prduction. Also Genelec 8030 got more punch as the EVO 80.

Guys i need pc speakers to listening to music ( i work at home and listen to like 5h a day, house, techno and jazz). What do you think ? I know ill need a DAC with proper outputs as well + maybe a dj controler for fun mixing after work. My listening sweet spot is just 1m away from the speakers located at my desk. Arent those too big? I like deep bass though! Any other options ? Focal Shape 65 with a little smaller woofer and Focal instruction that its sweet spot is 1m away will be better ? 40hz low end instead of 38 on 80 evo should not do much of a difference. Im like looking for PC speakers for ages now and cant decide what to buy,. My other options are passive bookshelves speakers (Magnat Signature 903, Monitor Audio Silver 100 7g, Pylon Diamond Monitor 18 ) but im not sure listening to those 1m away is good option - have big doubts in fact. HELP :)

Hello, thanks for the great review! I'm still torn between a pair of Focals Alpha 80 and a pair of Focals Alpha Twin Evo. I know the first has class AB amps, as opposed to class D amps for the Twin Evo, so I don't really know which way to go. But then again, the Twin Evo offers dedicated drivers for low, mid and high frequencies. I am quite lost... Could you help me out here, please? It would be much appreciated 🙂

While I am very familiar with the 2-way Evos, the Trio series, the Shapes and the Solo 6...I have yet to hear or try the Twin Evo. I hope to soon.

@@titua1288 well… I used to have HS5, HS7, but sold them soon after Tannoy Gold 7, but I don’t use Tannoy Gold 7 either, because of Focal Alpha 65 Evo, to my ear, Alpha 65 Evo is much much better than both Tannoy Gold 7 or HS series…. Never had 80 Evo because it’s new, also never tried the old one, but guess Evo 80 will be much better in big margin, now I use Alpha 65 Evo and Output Frontier

@Robin Meng Same as you, I tried the Tannoys bcs all the hype but never liked those at all 😪. I already know the Yamis sound but have never heard any of the Evo line and was curious before making a final decision, so your feedback is much appreciated! 👌🏼

@@titua1288:)) actually I’d kept Tannoy Gold 7, just bcs their design is cool and it’s Tannoy, even tho their produced sound is not Tannoy at all haha

I wonder how these sound in comparison to the original Alpha 80 in the mid low area. The original Alpha 80s didn't handle mid lows that well and sounded sorta muffled on the attack of kick drums and bass guitar sounds.

    • @RecordingMag
      @RecordingMag  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I did not have them side by side, but I found the low mids more extended and open on the Evo and not muffled at all.

I’m considering an Alpha 80 Evo I’ve seen at a reduced price.
My main concern is that it maybe too powerful for my room.

Not sure why, but many Focal users claim that the original Alphas are much better than these new EVOs. Now, being made in China means that availability will be very spotty, not that Chinese manufacturing is largely shut down. So order and buy at your own risk, and don't hold out for spare parts availability later. Also, the EVO woofer membranes are made out of recycled material. Maybe that is why they look so -- recycled?

So the 'made in France' just means assembling Chinese parts in France?
