We are in nationwide strike here in France, 90% of the public transports are not working but the pick pockets are nonstop working everyday ok in Paris metro! We have only two automated underground metros line 1 & 14, they are always in line 1 & hanging out on the platform waiting to attack on metro stations platform George V, Louvre, Concorde, Franklin Roosevelt, and Champs Elysées Clemenceau! Be safe! All videos are from my iPhone!

not Rome...and tourists, as locals, should not be negligent with their belongings..They feed these specimens. I was robbed in a store, waiting for my turn to the cashier, right next to her..a couple passed, I made them way to get out and they went. Outside, I saw my phone was missing..on camera, the security saw how was taken..the man took it from my pocket, passed it to he woman behind..At the police, I said I was negligent, as the phone was not fitting properly into my pocket..I gave the opportunity. I spent only 2 minutes in the store, to grab a sandwich.

Some useful tips would be-
1) Always look out for a group with big bags infront of them
2) Avoid boarding the train just when the doors are about to close
3) Avoid standing near the doors
4) keep the wallets/fanny packs under the jackets
5) For fun, keep a decoy wallet and keep the actual wallet inside the jacket.
There should be decoy wallets with a Jack out of the Box in them that pops into their faces and laughs at them when they open it. Or a GPS tracker in them which starts wailing like a police siren if the wallet is taken away more than 1 metre from the owner. Zippers with locks for rucksack etc. Lots of ideas for inventors of pickpocket proof bags and rucksacks. 😁

I watched a pick-pocket happen in Place de la Concorde metro station @ midday on a workday. A small group of 3-4 teenagers walked behind an older couple -- one shoved the man down and grabbed the wallet -- I intervened, confronting the thief before she could handoff. I started yelling (in my not-so-fluent French) "STOP!! HELP!! DON'T MOVE!!" etc. Nobody came to assist. They then started to circle me like a wolfpack (I had my briefcase on me with wallet, ID, keys, etc) before for bolting down a tunnel. I gave chase but they beat me down the stairs to the platform and disappeared. I went back to the couple, offered my condolences and gave them my card if they needed anything. Sux. And happens everywhere.
I was recently on vacation in Bucharest waiting for the train outside a coffee shop. I was carrying a small backpack so I stood leaning with my back against the wall. I noticed a teen girl milling about on her phone ... hmm, I thought. My wife then return and we stood chatting -- and the girl kept inching closer, closer, to my wife (with a bag in front over her shoulder) still on her phone -- until she was RIGHT THERE. My wife said "Let's go! She's giving me the creeps!" and we walked away to check the schedule board. The girl then walked away, rounded the corner of the coffee shop ... and returned to the same spot a couple of minutes later. Stay alert!
Just got back from Paris. I avoided the metro, kept a sling style bag close to the front of my body and avoided crowded spaces outside the tourist spots. No problems
I used the metro extensively on a recent week long trip and had no problems at all. In fact it was an awesome trip!

When I traveled in Europe across 4 countries back in 2022, I wore cargo pants and shorts with back pockets that had buttons. Those buttons are so hard to undo that even I struggle to get my wallet out when making a purchase. I had zero issues with pickpocketers for the entirety of the 3 months of travel.

Its not the fault of the Italian Police! The Italian law does not allow to put them in prison..and the french law Is the same so the french Police cannot put these thieves in prison
