Great Vlog man, these are so fun to watch!! Most of my night running is on streets around the neighborhood where the most important thing is that others (cars) see you. Headlamps and reflective gear are a must for safety.
Nice video. I really like the combo of headlamp and waist light. I use that combo myself except I use two 18650 Zebralights. The headband can stretch to fit my waist so there is no need to rig up anything special. The waist light is all flood so it lights a wide path and the headlamp has a combo of flood and throw to reach out further ahead of the waist lamp. I use quality 18650 batteries and can bring spares. I like the idea of the petzl nao, but they use proprietary battery packs that are expensive.
Injury Bret. I LOVE the Salomons for FAST running in the mountains. I wear the Hokas to help me get over my plantar fasciitis that popped up a couple weeks ago, the extra cushion in the Hokas helps relieve the pain. Trust me, I would prefer to wear the Salomon Ultras on this type of run if I could. Thanks for the question.
Just throwing this out there, after my lax playing days ended at age 35, i thought i wouldn't have to buy anymore gear again. Then really got into running road and trail and for a sport that is only putting 1 foot in front of the other man im buying a lot of gear. Truth be told as a guy im just a grown kid and love new toys
It is such a small investment and makes so much sense and fun for us. I started investing in this sport, and if you think about it you spend much more on just a gym membership. And many things are useless you can be a minimalist runner. All these backpacks water packs etc, most of the times are overkill. You need a good pair of shoes, some decent glasses if you run on sun (good glasses can start from 30, you dont have to buy oakleys), and maybe a headlamp if you run at night?
