I chose a MRes for a few reasons, some of which are not addressed in this video. 1. It's free under the research training program (RTP), unlike honours degrees which go on your HECS debt. 2. Stipends are available under the RTP which pay about 32k per annum. There are no equivalent stipends available for honours degrees. 3. It is better preparation for PhD than an honours degree. This one was covered in the video, of course. 4. Most, if not all, subjects you take for it are pass/fail instead of graded on a scale and I'm someone that takes my grades very seriously so having subjects graded on a scale would be an extra source of stress for me. Honours degrees and their subjects are largely graded on a scale, as you graduate with first class, second class division A, second class division B or third class honours (assuming you pass).
For this program, do you complete the coursework and research proposal at the same time or complete all coursework first before working on the research or research proposal? Edit: Just as I typed this one of the people in the video you are not trying to balance coursework and research at the same time. So I guess they do the coursework first. I am thinking of doing a Master of Philosophy part time at another university. You present your research proposal after 12 months but also do coursework so I think we have to do these at the same time.
