@@jeffreyolson2139 No, valid question. The fact is many of these works end up nowhere, especially the really big ones, which usually get destroyed. And YES, "these can't be art" should be asked more, and often the answer is yes, these aren't art.

@@pr1me840 I couldn't possibly disagree more! Yes, most work produced is never sold and ultimately destroyed, but commercial value has absolutely nothing to do with whether something is considered art. Art is expression, nothing more, nothing less and that allows for quite a wide interpretation. It is our personal choice to like or dislike a particular work or style. Asking, "is it art", is the wrong question!

But you can't be a hypocrite because "everything is art" and subjective. Do you "Jeffreyolson2139" determine the commercial value of art? No, Christie's Hong Kong determined one of Lee Bae's pieces is worth $153,000, Seoul Action House ($430 000) and Philips Hong Kong ($30 000). Why do you think that is? The power to determine if something is art is not in the hands of common people like you. I think there should be more weight in the words of the public, and it should be more judgmental. Art used to shape society, but what type of society is now shaped in the US?
