How did the guy know the ape wasn't shooting at Caesar? His back was turned and the explosion was near Caesar I think it could have been easily mistaken
He was trained to work firearms, just like any soldier. So when the guy was asking for the rocket launcher, and "Donkey" (As they called him) kept hesitating and then when he grabs it he kills the other soldier he just killed him. The most likely outcome for him was being murdered as they hated Apes, which was Caesar's point, they hate all Apes what makes you different. Also, like the guy said he didn't make any other attempt.

SaintsFan 09 Probably because once he missed he made no further attempts to shoot Caesar, and instead just gave him a thoughtful look.
