This is catchy not in the way modern pop songs are, but in the way that older songs are. Like there might be a moment that stands out and goes viral on TikTok, but I think the overall song is very earwormy based off it's feel in the way that older songs weren't about having one hook. Another thing I really love about this song is that you can tell she really loves what she's doing and that Rufus also loves what he's doing. This feels like a very genuine song. Also they're both from Vancouver so it's like she's supporting artists from her region of Canada which is pretty sweet.

I sereously think this is one of the best pop songs made in recent years. It's upbeat and nostalgic at the same time, it makes you feel happy and it makes you want to dance, it's catchy and the harmonizing is spot on. Also love the disco vibes, and the vintage esthetic.
if you like this type of “aesthetic” in music you should listen to dua lipa’s future nostalgia. i’m not a huge pop fan but that album is so good in my opinion and it literally can be described with the words you wrote about this song

My children's mother and I are divorced, and they unfortunately live a distance away leaving me with far too little time with the kids. When I come across a music video I think they'll enjoy, I make sure to watch it with them when they're here with me. When I saw this video, I knew my daughter was going to like it, but I had no idea the magic both she and I would experience watching it together. She's only 4 years old--all of this is brand new to her, and she was absolutely captivated by this one. Thank you, everyone involved with the music and video, for allowing me that special moment.

only issue i have is the production of modern songs is it sounds too clean? like the high quality audio we have now is great but but lowkey takes the soul away from a song. like it sounds too sterile. not quite sure how to explain it. old songs sounded "warmer" somehow. also real drums need to be used more. we basically just need more real instruments. i love electronic music but certain things just can't be replicated with a computer.
also i recommend the group tennis if you're looking for 70s/80s pop vibes. the have a lot of the same issues i mentioned in my previous comment but they're still good. also weyes blood sounds like she came right from the 70s but her music is more folky / joni mitchell vibes.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for Carly because I used to fancy the hell out of her as a teenager (still do tbf lol) but pop's not really my bag, I'm more of a punk/metalhead. This song's been getting a lot of play on the radio at work though and I massively dig it. Their harmonies are genuinely delicious on the ear and are mixed to perfection. Really, really well thought out and put together tune; you don't have to be a fan of a certain genre to appreciate an amazing track 🤘

Crazy theory to spice up the song for myself:
The woman of the story is actually a celestial space being preventing the death of her lover by looping time over and over again to never forget him. He actually perished sometime on returning to Earth and in order to keep him alive she resets time to the beginning. The 'bad dreams' she has is every reset from the beginning, and his 'bad dreams' are him faintly remembering dying in every loop.
This is supported by the fact she was able to fly over to him, them feeling bliss at the end, and the song looping at the end.

I've never pay a lot of attention to Carly 's music before but with this song i felt a click into her music and discography. This song especially has that joyful yet melancholy tone that I really love, their voices together and music video is so artistically beautiful ❤️. And Finally, I hope that she has the recognition that she deserves .✨

Same! Maybe it was because of Call Me Maybe but I mistakenly pegged her as a one hit wonder kind of popstar. Party for One and Cut to the Feeling really proved me wrong, though and I've been a supporter since then.

This lovely lady really does not have a dud in her discography. Even her B-Sides are better than most contemporary artists A-Sides. It amazes me that so many people still see her as a "one-hit-wonder" thanks to "Call Me Maybe?"
