    One of the best values in 1911's. I love my Kimbers.

    Just bought a Custom II in 45 yesterday, along w a second magazine. It amazes me the hate for 1911s.. and not surprisingly enough, I always get it from Glock owners...with the exception of one. My pops loved it. He's considering getting one now.

      I have a Kimber Classic Custom that I bought in April 1999. Actually I believe it was just within a few days before or after the Columbine shooting. Anyway it is the first series - before the "II" designation now with the firing pin block. It has ran great right out of the box. I also have a G27 .40 cal and a G43 single stack 9mm. I like them too and are my go to carry guns because of their size. It's like comparing a Corvette (Kimber) to a Honda (Glock) though. I want a Ultra Carry II to go with the full size. Maybe one day I'll get one.

    I love my Custom 2. It's been fantastic. I did do a little work to it swapping out the trigger for a GI short trigger to make it easier for my wife and daughter to also shoot. While in there I went ahead and polished and deburred. I also got some Wilson Combat mags. It runs great.

    Nice Custom II. I have a few Kimber 1911’s and never had any issues with any of them.

    I have the TLE version of the Kimber Custom II. The trigger pull is outstanding; smooth and predictable. The finish isn’t great, but there is nothing I would rather shoot. It is heavy, but because it is relatively slim, it is surprisingly comfortable for all day carry.

    I own that model. It's actually my least expensive Kimber. The two-tone finish and the nice wood grips give it an expensive look. Mine has been a solid performer and a pleasure to shoot.

    I own several Kimber 1911s in 9mm, .45 ACP, and 10mm. The Kimber Camp Guard in 10mm gave me fits with FTFs. It turned out to be a combination of ammunition and a factory defect. I was able to rectify both of those issues. Then the FTEs started. Tuned the extractor and all is well. Now, the Kimber Camp Guard is a great, reliable shooter.

    • @BoomStickTactical
      @BoomStickTactical  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad they got it fixed

    • @RangeRoninChronicles
      @RangeRoninChronicles ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoomStickTactical Good shooting, by the way. They did not fix it - I did. There was a ridge on the bottom of the feed ramp where it meets the locking block in the frame during recoil, which caused an incorrect feed angle into the barrel. About a thousandths of an inch was causing multiple failures to feed. It took some mild filing and polishing the base of the feed ramp to get things working right. As far as extractors? I have carried a 1911 for the majority of my pistol-packing years. I have tuned a lot of internal extractors in that time.

    Most "new" 1911 owners/buyers don't understand that these guns are control feed. The rim of the cartridge comes up and behind the extractor and is controlled (held) by the extractor as the slide goes into battery. That extractor tension is crucial to feeding and extraction. It may need some slight adjustment and it needs to be checked every now and then. It's just like having a high performance racing engine with solid lifters and having to adjust the valve lash every so often. Good quality magazines are a must also. Just like you wouldn't run the same race engine on pump 87 gasoline.

      @@BoomStickTactical Ironically I just bought the same gun as yours this weekend (10/12) but it is a Ultra Carry II (two tone) with Crimson Trace grips. Took it home and field stripped it and checked the extractor tension and then cleaned and lubed it up and ran 50 rounds of FMJ through it with no problems at all.

    I bought a 2018 Custom II in 45acp. Spent $600 for it. No issues with it at all. Took it to my smith and had the front strap checkerd, and replaced all of the mim parts with high quality steel parts, had the barrel reversed crowned, hinie straight eight sights and a fitted magwell, and new fitted grips. Did I need to? Nope, but it sure is a sweet shooter and my pride and joy. It really is a Custom II now 😊

    My dad has this gun. He just had to put the recommended ~400 rounds through it. He had a few jams, I mean 2-3, no issues since. He probably did the same thing you did, with the thumb lock, as this was his first semi-auto pistol

      A owned a blacked out Custom II a while back. When brand new it had many jams, but after about 500 rounds the jams were rare. The tolerances are so tight it absolutely needs a break in period, the pistol didn't rattle or sound sloppy when handling it. The irony is that those jams were due to it's high quality. I believe that at 800 rounds it's fully broken in.. that's just my opinion.

    A buddy of mine has the same gun but with the stainless slide/alloy frame. It requires a break in period but I don’t remember how many rounds he said it was. All I know is I rang the 15 yard plate with it every shot with 230gr Berry’s. I don’t remember what his load was. Shooting that 1911 turned me on to them. After decades of shooting and reloading I haven’t owned a 1911 until just last week when I bought a used(barely!) Springfield Armory Commander length 45. Beautifully blued slide with alloy frame. Looking forward to what it will do with 200gr XTPs and Longshot powder. I work at Cabela’s-Fort Worth and I get to see many Kimbers like your’s and other. I’ve got my eye one like your’s but 4” with alloy frame in 9mm. I want to make it a convertible between that round and 38 Super. Thanks for making this video. Range day is always enjoyable

      1911s are the perfect beginner gun to get someone who is new into shooting. Da/SA, DAO, and Striker fired (especially new out of the box) are more intermediate and expert weapons.

      They need to be ran in and use better magazines

    • @MJ-om8nw
      @MJ-om8nw ปีที่แล้ว

      Update on mine. I used lapping compound on slide rails, cycled by hand thousands of times. That still didn't solve all of the feeding and stove piping issues. I then got out the dremmel and polished the feed ramp and ran some lapping compound around the chamber. Test fired multiple rounds through multiple different brands of magazines and now I am happy to say that I can trust its reliability. I still don't believe that kimber puts out a quality product. I have ten 1911s and have had many others. I have never ever had this much trouble with any of them. I don't believe that any 1911 should take hundreds of rounds in order to break in either. Just think of how many years and how expensive that would be if I had allowed all of those failures to occur and wear naturally. Kimber should have just gotten it right the first time.
