  • We visit the Bomana Correctional Institute where we speak to those behind bars about life in prison.
They give us an insight on the crimes, the pain, the stress, the regrets and the rehabilitation process they go through.
Many of these women behind bars have had long experiences with gender based violence. Many have suffered from domestic violence perpetrated by their husbands.
For women who’ve had to leave their children behind in order to serve time in prison, it is a constant worry not knowing if your child is being taken care of properly or not...

So sad...If only the police had taken her concerns seriously, she wouldn't ended up in here in prison. She was a victim of violence against women..

Yu gat REASON na yu kisim law igo insait lo han blo yu yet. The reason - man pamuk raun, marettim 2 or 3pla meri na lus tintin lo you na pikinini olsem na yu killim man. The REASON must be addressed. PNG need stronger Law on esp, neglectful husbands

This episode and program is very useful to send message to others who are likely to take law into own hands. I request EMTV to replay and circulate this episodes widely.

Well articulated, top notched correctional office. ❤
Like what you said about men in our society having one important job, and that is to love, respect and protect your wives. They will, in return love you back. High stats of DV cases landing women in prison, some with their infants. Totally unnecessary. 😢

I feel for you all prisoners...this woman shares a best experience for her life.... Thus, for a women population in this country, if you face such problems as her, please seek court to divorce your marriage rather than getting law onto your hands 😭💔. .. sorry tru , lewa buruk ya

don't know here but my heart goes out to her..this is a result of domestic violence, surely some top shot lawyer should review her case..shouldn't she be paroled after serving half of her sentence..

The police system in PNG is soo useless. She doesn’t even deserve to go to prison, she has been abused and she was defending herself coz the police were not going to help her anyways.

Praying for all the women and mothers who have to serve sentences in jail due to domestic violence against them from their husbands and a lot of MEN are known to control their women and abuse and use them and treat them like they are nothing, just because they think it is the man's right to lay a hand on his wife/partner. NO NOT OKAY AT ALL. .....Shame on you, also to the PNG Policemen who think they are above the law........no wonder people don't trust the Police system in PNG- still have a lot to clean up and change their toxic corrupt ways....have heard a lot of distressing news about the Police force in PNG, so much corruption in the Police force in PNG, bullying tactics, no care factor at all, no compassion, just belt people if they don't listen to the police. These women don't have a leg to stand on when they are in a domestic violence scene, as PNG still hasn't got its act together when it comes to a fair trial for the woman. It is truly distressing, upsetting and down right disgusting, DV or abuse of any sort is not acceptable in any way, shape or form. PNG lacks Mainstream services in all Provinces, and the communities for the people to reach out for help whether it be DV, abuse, homelessness, no Welfare system to pay the people when they can't get a job, Soup kitchens for the poor to get a feed, youth services, counsellors, safe houses, disability services, so many services lacking in PNG, and this falls on the Government, Ministers and Leaders, NGO's, etc - there would be less people without jobs if the Government started looking into getting more Mainstream services up and running in all Provinces, as you have so many Youth out there looking for work and you lack so many services that these Youth could work in..... when does PNG really look out for it's people in the job sector, no they hire outside the country, most times......Once these women have done their time they are free to live their lives out with respect and dignity and to move on. Christian country👎 failing its people, especially MEN who abuse WOMEN. SEM BILONG YU YET. God Bless all the Women and Children of PNG and I pray for the Men of the future to change their mindsets or belief systems and remember, IT IS💯 NOT OKAY TO ABUSE WOMEN AT ALL. 🙏🙏🙏🙏👩‍👧‍👦👩‍👧👩‍👧‍👧👩‍👦‍👦👩‍👦✝✝✝✝☮☮☮☮
