Sidecars seem popular in Germany. My grandfather would talk about them, he was talking about like 1930 in the US. I don't really remember ever seeing a sidecar in all my cycling days here in Maine. I like how that one rider flew his sidecar and shifted up through the gears.
Sidecar motorcycles are not much more popular in Germany than elsewhere. At most, the reunification of 1989 brought many Ural/Dnepr sidecar motorcycle into the motorcycle scene. In the case of the elephant meeting (whether in the Eifel or Bavarian Forest), the sidecar motorcycles have a big practical advantage. In many years there is still snow in the low mountain ranges of Germany in February. And on snow, a two-lane vehicle drives much safer and better.
