These tips are similar to stuff I've heard other people say previously. As such, I already started following this advice before, and I feel reassured by this video. I had been playing a variety of games from my genre of choice for a while, but it seems like it's nowhere near as many as other people like you. I also recently tried playing a variety of games from other genres in preparation for making future games, but I still have more work to do to get there. Lastly, I play tested my game a lot and caught many issues, but there's only so much I can find on my own so I started having other people play test it too. Thanks very much for this video.

Just keep it up! It takes time but you are heading in the right direction.

These are solid tips, admittedly makes me feel a bit better about not doing game jams very often. Regarding step 4, if you discover a 'cheese tactic' for a boss/hard encounter, how do you go about it? In my turn based RPG, one of my bosses can pretty easily die from a Poison + Defend a bunch strat, and it's pretty funny, but I'm confused on whether to just leave it in the game or patch it out

The good thing is that you identify the cheese tactic through playtesting. It really depends if you want to keep it or not. If the goal is to make the boss really hard, remove it. If it's a standard boss then you can keep it. If your game is on the more silly side and you think it's funny, you can keep it.
Players like discovering cheese and breaking the rules. But if you want to make a difficult boss fight then you are aware of it and can remove it somehow.
