I should have done something like this 10 years ago when I didn't have any responsibilities. Now it is too late. I encourage people who are on the fence about moving to Japan to just do it if you are young, free and don't have any major responsibilities. Hey, made me happy to read your comment! I prefer not to tell where i live, but i can recommend you the concept of sharehouses. I live in one right now, met a lot of people this way. As long as you don't search for something in the centre of tokyo, the prices should be doable since the yen is so weak atm.
Kōenji is one of my favorite places in Tokyo. It has many places to go while still being a n old town with their stuff. I love the market/shopping mall. You can easily get games, mysic and toys for cheap like in Mandarake store.
