- WATCH IN HD Bad decision? Yes. Lucky? HELL YES! Lucky they only lost a fuel tank and some straps instead of the whole truck. Had the truck not gotten hung-up on it's tank, it would've continued right on over the edge of the trailer and been wrecked. Also lucky the tank was almost empty and diesel fuel is hard to ignite, for if it had, it would've consumed both the truck and half the trailer. This 1971 White/Freightliner will live to race another day. Shot at Truckin' For Kids in Irwindale, California on Sunday October 6th, 2013. Just before the vid started the driver said "Hold my beer and watch this." in spanish.

Seems like they're all speaking English in the background, which means they're probably all speaking English anyway, at least the buyer and seller (I'm assuming this is from a truck auction). Plus the one voice on the outside yelled to the driver, "Shut it off," which you don't yell at someone who prefers Spanish as a language. You'd yell "Apagalo!" or something similar.
EDIT: There are obviously a few spanish speakers there, including some of the guys who look like friends of the loader. But I can't conceive that this was some sort of drunken latino the way you're alleging.
Just because people look brown or Latino doesn't mean they speak Spanish all of the time, most of the time, or even some of the time.

Ha Ha...yup... now we're square! You got a shot of me while shooting this and I got a shot of you just after you shot it. Thanks for the compliment. I always try to be as smooth as I can when I shoot these. Most people hate watching what would be a good video that's ruined by jerky or spastic whipping around of the camera. And this was the first real test for my brand new HD camera, so I wanted things to be extra nice. I've got plenty more TFK vids to post, keep watching, maybe I caught more shots of you.
You know you really can't fault the driver too much. After all, this restoration project was only partially done, and perhaps the boss really wanted a fresh start, beginning with the right fuel tank. With that part of the project completed, now they can move onto other more exciting things such as ruining the engine and grinding the gears in the transmission till they're smooth. And who knows, maybe while they're at it, they'll get some Kenworth wheels for the front axle to keep the theme of mismatched wheels going as well.
This sure was a longwinded attempt at humor, and ten years later still not even remotely funny 😂
When questioned about the incident, the driver said "my mother and my father were siblings when they were young".

The problem was he has an open differential, so as he goes up the ramp, it was picking up the rear tires, and of course after that, no more drive. So he gunned it to try and coast up the ramp. This was the result.
this is just stupid...why not backward, to get the traction..
You would think (or am I assuming) that if they unloaded it off that trailer, they could get it back on.
I'm guessing he got the Freightliner fever and just couldn't control himself.

So true. I had a feeling as I was shooting their many attempts at loading this truck that this is where it was heading. There was no room for error in this situation.

Dustin B He should not have dumped the clutch like that and he shouldn't have given it any throttle. he should have worked the clutch and feathered the throttle. It could have made it up slowly if he'd done it right.

Thank you. I'm not sure any of those involved has seen it yet, but yeah, not one of their shinier moments. With all of the cameras and phones shooting this, I think mine is still the only video of this on TH-cam. At least I haven't found another yet. I thought I was going to be late to the party posting it a month after it happened.

Everyone please stop blaming Americans,Mexicans, or whom ever. It is so easy to falsely judge something with out knowing all the facts. I don't think anyone (the driver) would intentionally speed up onto the flatbed trailer, if you pay close attention it would appear that his foot slipped off of the clutch causing the rear tires to bounce and jerk the cab and basically the whole truck and driver, and thus perhaps causing little time for the driver to react accordingly to get the situation under control since the truck was starting to climb the ramps making the situation much more "out of control". In any event we simply do not have all the facts to properly say or judge what really happened to cause this, whats important is nobody was injured.
i would guess he tried to climb onto the trailer slowly, but since he has no weight on drive axles, and possibly no differential locker, it would just spin, thus the need to carry some momentum. Although he did seem to get a little crazy on the throttle. (my guess)

I know that you can't physically see his feet, that's not what I meant. I will rephrase what I said, the way the truck tires bounced and jerked like that is consistent with someone "popping" the clutch, similarly as if a persons foot would slip off of the clutch pedal. On some small vehicles the engine would probable just stall. We can't get all the facts simply by looking at a video, and since we were not there to get all the facts and to investigate what was the root cause of the accident you simply cannot jump to conclusions and say the driver was an idiot.
