Great review, Craig. Had the Sigma 100-400 before getting the Sony 200-600, haven't looked back. Even 600mm isn't enough sometimes.

Thanks for the comment Bruce. I really had thought out when to test the lens and the weather was supposed to be pretty nice. But, I do live in the PNW and the rain has lasted longer than expected. In fact, it's raining again today. The Sony 200-600 is a lens that I have shot with and really enjoyed. I would probably purchase it, if I had a few more dollars hanging around. Yes, sometimes 600 isn't quite enough either. I have heard the teleconverters have gotten better. I plan to test them out later this year. I have used them before but I lost so much in image quality I sold them.

@@sportsphototv Oh yea the rain, last week we had over 500mm and flooding. I'm in Queensland, Aust. Tomorrow I've got a rodeo to shoot which was put on hold but they've decided to go ahead with it, so I'm pretty happy about that. I've looked at getting the converters but thought I could get the same quality of image with cropping and upscaling with Topaz Labs or On1 if needed.

@@brucehaggie7202 That's a fair amount of moisture. I usually have events cancelled every year but there has been more cancellations than usual. I don't mind shooting in a little bad weather but not when it's raining cats and dogs or winter blizzard conditions.
I shot a couple rodeos a long time ago and wouldn't mind doing that again. There is lots of different shots at those events. If you can, I would enjoy seeing your images.
      Good luck.

Have you thought about testing the Tamron 35 to 150 f2 to 2.8 lens for Sony. Looks like it could be the perfect indoor sports lens

@@stevenpeterman4721 It looks like an interesting lens. However, I don't know of any sports I currently shoot that it would needed. When shooting basketball and volleyball I don't go below 70mm. And, with a price tag of $1,900, I can think of other lenses I would look at first.
Now, it would possibly work for certain establishing shots.
Thanks for the question. What would you shoot with it?

I don't like a lens with a narrow aperture like f/6.3 or f/6.7 when I am shooting subjects at a distance because I cannot blur the messy backgrounds. Sure you can do selective focus when your subject is close to the camera and the BG is off in the distance but, not when the subject and the BG is at a distance from the camera.

Hi Richard. I totally agree. The problem comes with the price of those 2.8 lenses. Most photographers can't justify the high price tag. Especially the entry level sports photographer. I have used a Canon 400mm 2.8 and it is a sweet lens but I could not afford the lens.
      Thanks for the comment.

Great review! I do alot of panning for racing. Have you tried the panning feature on the lens? Is it a gimmick?

Thanks for the comment! I did not have a chance to try the panning. I would like to get the lens again and use it in some other circumstances.
