I really appreciate your videos. My buddies and I had Toyota’s pickups for off roading growing up. That’s all we drove. Then I saw the ZR2 and checked it out. I ended up buying a 2018 in a gas V6. It’s not as great on gas as the Toyota, but I don’t care because it is a beast off road! Again, thanks for the videos. The word has got to get out that there are other is another option in the mid-sized truck group.
In high school I was the only kid with an FJ40 but it was a lot of fun. It was expensive to keep it running (even back in the 90’s) so it got parked in favor of cheaper vehicles. I’ve never let it go and it’s now a restoration project! Enjoy your ZR2, it truly is a great truck! Thanks for watching!
I got 72 on one set and 77,000 miles on another set of BFG all terrains and that was with a lot of off roading on my daily driver. And there were made in USA! That is a big deal to me support you're neighbors. And other thing, you two have a junker, made in Thailand diesel engine in a Chevy?! Those engines are garbage and have a timing belt that has to be changed every 150,000! Aren't diesels known for their longevity and reliablity? I prefer GM vehicles, you couldn't give me a made in Thailand junk ZR2. That engine is a disgrace to Chevrolet, and was used in the diesel Jeep liberty which was a huge flop!! Buy American! Knowledge is power...
Hi Brooke and Alan... I am a Police officer in Massachusetts. My Tacoma got t-boned and totaled.. So I had to get a new truck.... I have to be able to make it through snow and storm. Because of your videos I purchased a Black Colorado zr2... I will never look back! My truck is hot! I did it up... I wish I could send you pics...
Lots of good info, great cinematography, and excellent dynamic. Honestly this has the look and dynamic of an HGTV show which is entertaining. Keep up the good work!!!
The video quality you guys have made is as good as just about any TH-cam “tv shows” that get millions of views. I never would have thought your channel was this small while I was watching this video.
Great videos! I just wanted to add that I happen to have a 10 ply 35” Toyo Open Country RT on my truck and I have not felt anymore stiffness than a 6 or 8 ply tire, on or off-road. The RT has given me superior off-road performance, even better than the Nitto MTs I had on it previously. On road, they’re a dream that you hardly hear and wear perfectly all the way around. Looking forward to seeing you continue your build
Regards to the BFG a 10 ply isn't going to make the daily commute any harder, if you're worried about ride quality just run a few psi less air pressure. I run them on my Colorado and the wife's crosstrek, rain, snow, dirt, mud they're such a great all rounder and have really really good tread life.
I’m about to purchase my third set of BFG AT’s. They’re incredibly quiet, ride smoothly, and - with a combined total mileage between the two previous sets of nearly 100,000 miles - I have had ZERO punctures. Just so you know for the future.
Larry Queen yea I've seen more complaints and more warranty done on all the other tires than BFG and why would rock climb with a lesser ply tire smh......
I'm in the same predicament with my new-to-me '04 4Runner. I loved my c-rated Duratracs on my 97 4Runner. They were the perfect balance of burly without being bone jarring like the e-rated Geolanders I had prior to that, and they are snow rated to boot. Howwwwever, they only make an SL load rating in a 255/75, which is unacceptable if you actually want to wheel your truck here in Colorado. So, I'm probably going KO2s because they have a C-rated offering in that size range (don't feel like doing a bunch of body mount chopping to fit 285s). Glad to hear you would have gone KO2 if they had reasonable load rating for the size, and totally agree that E-rated is just complete overkill.
I have the 2017 Z71, not quite the off road machine the ZR2 is but it gets around. I installed a set of the 275/50R20 (32x11R20) BF Goodrich Rugged Terrains on some 20” wheels and so far very pleased with them. They can only be found at Walmart due to a special deal they obviously have with Michelin and at a really good price. Had to put on a 3” leveling kit to make them fit nice but it’s an easy cheap upgrade.
Nice! The 2nd gen Colorado/Canyon seems to be a good platform (even if it's not a ZR2!) Have you tried much 4 wheeling with that tire/wheel combo? Especially in a scenario where you need to air down? My only concern with your tire choice would be the very short sidewall for off-roading. The low profile has a lot of benefits on road but that usually means a trade off for off-road performance since that sidewall won't allow much flex. Let me know how it works for you. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I appreciate the effort put in to comparing a few different brands and explaining what went into your decision. I've been looking at the ridge grappler as well since it comes in a c rating where most are e rated in the 285 70 r17 size.
BFG should come out with a 6 ply version of the A/T later this year but they haven’t been able to give me an exact date so that may be another if you can wait
I have 35" Falken WildPeak MT's and would have to (surprisingly) disagree with your statement regarding their loudness, as they are not loud at least not on my ZR2 which I honestly found surprising. I have liked the WildPeak's off-road (a lot) and they work fairly well on the street/highway, I don't have high expectations for them on pavement though. These videos are fun, thank you for making them.
Have BFG 305 65/18’s on my ‘17 Z71 Colorado Duramax , daily driver very little road noise actually, love the tires & an amazing look most Colorado’s out there do not achieve. Have BDS-Zone lift/Fox coil overs provide amazing like factory ride . Missing the ZR2 front bumper/clearance & lockers though. Tow with this over high Colorado Mtns and performs great.
Justin M trust me, you'll love them. Look on eBay for discount tire page. Sometimes they offer really good prices and rebates and I had the local Tires Plus match the price so i didn't have to wait for shipping. Enjoy.
Nitto tires are a great choice for the ZR2. I have a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers on my Toyota 4Runner, they are very good as a daily driver, not a lot of noise on the pavement and great offroad. Good luck on the Chevy product.
I have the KO2’s on my 06 Colorado I don’t think it rides rough at all, and one complaint I’ve heard a lot about Nitto’s is that they don’t last long, but hopefully y’all do reviews on how they hold up for you over the miles
Can't wait for more videos guys. I'm downsizing from a 2012 Ford F150 FX4 with some off-road mods and I'm considering the ZR2 or the TRD Pro. I'm starting to lean towards the ZR2. I would love to hear your guy's reasoning on why you went for the diesel over the V6.
Diesel has more torque for off-roading and as we modify the truck the loss of power and torque and mpg won't be as noticeable as we make those changes verses a gas engine. Also Brooke wanted the truck in white after struggling to keep her black SUV clean and shiny. The closest ZR2 that was white was also a diesel!
At least say who you are: It was 2009 when our passion for people and cars came together and out of that came Treadworks Tire & Auto, our Auto repair facility. The ride we have been on has been amazing! From our first 2 bay shop, to changing the name of our company to Alan’s Wrench in 2015 we have been dedicated to serving the Texas Hill Country through it all. We owe a debt to our customers for riding along with us. We hope you continue to be part of our journey!
Unless you have a full sized 3/4 ton or better. Michelin is acknowledging to us retailers that the compound is too soft and longevity is suffering. Not a bad tire, but...
Don Leamon nailed it. I heard from a few reps to not run the KO2 if you are doing any heavy towing as the tread compound starts getting chopped quickly.
Great video! Thanks for making this tire episode. Now all that's left is convincing the finance department (wife and keep of all funds) that I need this truck in my life.
Brooke here- True Story I didn’t not like 4 wheeling when we started 17 years ago! I want to do a video called “how to get your wife/ girlfriend to fall in love with 4 wheeling” but I keep getting Shot down by our team! What do you think? Would anyone be interested in that?
Brooke and Alan PLEASE, PLEASE make a future video on this topic. My wife has watched your videos and has commented on " why isn't there any women inspired videos".
Brooke and Alan that would be a really good video! My wife is on the fence, she likes the adventure, although we've had some pretty bad luck several times we've gone out. From getting REALLY stuck or breaking down. Both scenarios a couple times each have been pretty traumatic, so she's hasn't wanted to go for quite a while
Nice tire info. I am an older man and I would like a truck that I can just sit into and stand out of without much effort. Just go get in an early 90s model S-10. Very easy to get in and out of.
Toyo Tires also have a really nice A/T tire. I have them, and have about 40k miles on them and they are still over 50% they look good, perform well, and are priced well below equivalent tires.
I would love to have seen or to see the Cooper ST Maxx in this comparison and/or future comparisons. I have had amazing performance on and off road. Aggressive and grippy tread design while maintaining a very smooth and quite ride.
Those look like another good mix of on-road and off-road performance. I don't have any personal experience with them but I know a few people who run them and they really like them.
We already have a set for you! Got a great deal on them and have been holding into them until you are ready! You won’t even have to change your wheels!
I'm getting some 275/55/20 BFG K02s installed this thursday to replace the stocks on my '18 Silverado. I was originally going to get a separate set of winter tires and rims for the Canadian winters. However, the Goodyear LS2 tires are just so uninspiring to drive ... I get they are for highway and fuel economy, just very "blah". So, I ordered BFGs to run all year round since it has the snow rating and the consensus I read online is that are shockingly quiet for being an all-terrain. I do quite a lot of highway driving so I'll take the better traction in the rain or snow over the small loss in fuel economy.
Brooke and Alan, have you all checked out the General Grabber line up? The APT is an awesome all season/all terrain tire, and they have more aggressive models for true all terrain and then mud. Hard to beat that quality at that price.
The stock tires are excellent - Good Year Duratracs are solid. However, agree with you that 31s are way too small for the ZR2. It should comes with 33s & possibly even 35s if going with a BDS lift or similar aftermarket setup.
Just purchased a ZR2. I have NEVER been a off road guy. Did own a basic 2010 Silverado LS 4X4. Loved it, in the winters. Now, i'm moving to Las Vegas, and wish to do "some" off roading too get around to a destination. If you both could offer ZR2 , and general, advice, that would be b great! PS: I have always been a Camaro/sports car guy, so, offroading advice will be well appreciated. BTW i'm 50. Thanks!
Huge Nitto fan. Love those tires. Good luck with the Ridge. I like the Trail Grapps better personally but thats bc I do more mud than you guys probably do downhere in Florida. Enjoyed the Vids guys. Great team keep up the good work!
REALLY appreciate the nice comment! We are having a blast with the videos! The Trail Grapps are a nice looking tire! If we did more mud they would have been a contender.
J Smith I had them on my f150 for about 60k miles. Kept getting louder. Great offroad, but couldn't even talk. Bought the ones they have it's a traction tradeoff for sure. They are still tough.
really informative guys. i got a 2015 LT lifted with spacers and 33s just my daily.. I’m really looking forward to getting the 2021 zr2. havent decided if duramax. never worked with diesel before.
ive always loved this style of colorado... how is the zr2 holding up? do u have the v6 or diesel engine package? i love the look of it, have you considered a rooftop tent? would that be an option for your in the future? and are there any aftermarket front bumpers or winch kits to adapt the stock to accept a winch w a little cutting of the front bumper... also how do you like the rear and front lockers compared to a jeep what would you say? better than a sahara and a rubicon or somehwere in between... very interested to hear what you have to say i hope the suspension is holding up well also.... anyways take care.. cheers..
Great tire choice. In sitting on the fence as to what my next vehicle new will be wanna see the bronco and gladiator. But as a life long Chevy /GM. Family member the zr2 is gonna be a hard act to beat. Especially with the baby duramax
I am up the the air with the Tacoma or the zr2 The truck will be a daily driver and on the end I will use the truck for camping off the grid in remote areas I live in western Pennsylvania what’s your thoughts
Next time check out Hankook MT's. I have 12,000 miles on mine, they're E rated because I pull a trailer on occasion but they have the 6ply flavor and they're not noisy. Also the price was good. Ive used the Hankooks on my GT500 shelby for years, great company.
I remember seeing a mud tire test and the Hankook MT's did really well. I just pulled a set of A/T's off my LX450 to move up to a 35". They were a really nice tire for mild off-roading. Thanks for the comment!
I know its been a while since you posted this, but BFG does have a 6-ply tire, I just picked up a set of 285/70/R17 116/113S from TireRack for my '19 Ranger that I have on order. How are you liking the Nittos?
Y'all have great chemistry I absolutely love the content please keep em coming!!!! I'm going to buy a zr2 more than likely because of your videos ( I've been debating getting one for a while but your videos help push me over the edge lol )
Great video, two major points many of us would like you to follow up on. The effects of the levelling kit on the Multimatic and why that over a body lift? Also, talk about the fender trimming to fit 33’s. Plz n Thankyou.
The leveling kit doesn't change the length of the Multimatic shock, it just changes the mounting point so there is no noticeable effect on ride quality or performance. However, a new longer bump stop should be installed because without longer ones it could damage the shock if it bottomed out hard enough. Some fender trimming is required at the rear of the front fender and flare. One of our next videos talks about this but I'm not sure when it will be ready to hit TH-cam - hopefully soon. The body lifts out there right now aren't designed to work with the diesel. I found that out the same night I came home with the new truck (I almost cried). I prefer to stay away from body lifts because the only ground clearance you gain is from the added tire height while a suspension lift gives you additional clearance under the frame, engine, trans, transfer case etc. Thanks!
Ha, stumbled on this. I work for the largest tire and wheel retailer in the world. Nittos are not a bad choice. Went from General Red Letters on my LX450 to KO2 just to try them out, so far so good, but Michelin is having an issues with the soft compound on heavy trucks, and the 80, especially built like mine is, tends to be a fat piggy. The Red Letters were awesome here in AZ and in UT, obviously sucked ass in snow and ice in Flagstaff. Running 35" Duraturds on my '16 Power Wagon, and will probably try Nittos next go-round. Nice thing is I get a pretty good deal on all of them, so changing my mind isn't that big a deal. :-)
Nice truck! You do know that your hits are because Brooke is amazingly beautiful... you could add a pin stripe and we would still tune in. I have to give you props, way, way above your grade. :) keep the vids coming. You share a lot of things people don’t think about
Wait...are you saying that if I (Alan) did videos by myself I wouldn't have tens of thousands of views with 99% male viewership?! That's Ludicrous!! (in Mike Tyson's voice) :)
The KO2's are really smooth on the road and ,with bilstein 5100s, I have not noticed anything unforgiving despite the 10 ply. In fact I think they ride better than the stock road tires and stock shocks on the SR.
What sort of fender cutting/trimming did you have to do for the 285/70/17 tires on the ZR2 ? Any other modifications ? I believe you all mentioned the 1 inch leveling kit. Any thing else? Richard ( Kansas city )
You can definitely get BFG KO2s in a C rating (6 ply) vs the E rated 10 ply. Depending how big you go and what rom size you stay with you may want that extra stiffness.
Ken Moore - In my opinion bumpers and other essentials are a high priority but I haven’t found anyone offering bumpers I’m in love with yet. Maximizing approach and departure angles is a big deal for me but I also want it to look good. It may be time to do some fabrication to get exactly what I want but that’s a time consuming process.....I will however be showing off MY daily driver (LX450) pretty soon and many of the upgrades I’ve already done to it (bumpers, winch etc)
Did you take video of your fender trimming? Can you provide information on if you needed to trim front and rear or just front? Would a wheel offset help with not having to trim? How much more weight per tire is it? Does it affect the suspension? Did you have to have your speedometer or transmission programmed for the taller tire? I really want 33 inch tires but will wait until the stock tires wear out.
We address most of this in our next video. If we don’t cover your questions go ahead and comment on the next video and we will answer your questions then. We read all our comments. Thanks for commenting!
I just bought a ZR2 and I’m new to the truck/off roading stuff. I want to add 33” tires as well. Where do I start? What kind of leveling kit did you use. And fender trimming? Please help and thanks!
The BFG's really, aren't rough in smaller sizes even with the 10 ply. I have some on my Grand Cherokee. The difference between them and the factory Michelin was hardly measurable. just more road noise. For anyone driving a light truck I would highly recommend them.
I'm a huge fan of TOYO OPEN COUNTRY ALL TERRAIN tires. They are very quite and capable. I've seen videos about their MUD TERRAIN but never ran them myself. I'd be willing to test those out next time. Downside! They are expensive
I am really liking the nitto ridge grapplers, but don’t want to alter my stock ZR2, can you recommend a larger size from stock without having to trim or lift any further Thanks
Try a 265/70r17 it's the same width but about an inch taller - it's available in 6 or 10 ply versions. No guarantee's but I bet it fits without rubbing
I'm planning on purchasing a new truck later this year, the diesel ZR2 is a top choice. Like you, it will also be a daily driver. What fuel mileage are you experiencing? Thanks!
Have about 12K on the Nitto's now and they are still really good. Looks like they will easily make 50K judging by current wear. They are a little noisier but not bad (like a whisper compared to my Dick Cepeks;) Still perfectly balanced - no vibrations or shimmies at any speed. The tread has a few chunked spots from spinning in the rocks but nothing bad. My biggest gripe is the traction on rock is decent but not as good as the factory Goodyear Duratracs. The softer Goodyears wouldn't last as long but they grip like glue. Overall I'm happy with them but I'd be ok with wearing tires out sooner and having better traction....most people would sacrifice traction for longer tread life so "to each their own!"
BFG did mess up making so many Ko2 tires E rated. I have D rated 37s on my JK and those tires are some seriously tough all terrains. I have crawled on some nasty stuff with these tires. Not the greatest in mud but not horrible either. Fantastic on road and super durable. I can't wait until the new MT BFG comes out. I have ran a lot of mud tires and all terrains over time.
The KM3’s look like a nice tire. I was also a huge fan of the original BFG M/T KM. Was sad to see it retired years ago and replaced by the KM2 which I’ve never been impressed with. Thanks for watching!
Brooke and Alan yea I never had a problem with the KM2 but then again it just didn’t excite me enough to ever buy it. I’ve seen people do well on them. KM3 should be legit. Almost got these Ridge Grapplers for my Jeep then stumbled on a deal I couldn’t pass for the Ko2. Also considered RG for my truck but landed on something not quite as aggressive, the Falken AT3/w. Lots of great tires on the market almost seems over saturated but all the companies seem to be fine. Keep having fun with the channel.
Could have gone with LT285/70/17 Duratracs. They are 10ply and if you air them down to about 30-32PSI they wear great and provide a very nice ride. That is what I ran on my RAM 1500 for over 60,000km
We did look at those. Don't think you can go wrong either way but it really came down to not wanting to run a 10ply tire on a mid-size truck. I will definitely use the Duratracs on my other rigs though! Thanks for watching!
Appreciate the videos and just subscribed. I bought a 18 ZR2 gas a month ago and really love the truck. But I agree it should have 33's. Could you provide any information on the leveling kit you used? Was it 1" or more? Did you also go with a larger bump stop for the shocks? Last but not least, was the fender trimming only in the front and was it a lot? Thanks for the videos - please keep it up!
Rough Country #921 1" spacer (direct bolt in) and Belltech 4924 bump stops (must be modified - Covered in one of our next videos) Fender trimming is at rear of front fender (also in one of our next vids) If you get into some extreme flexing the rear tires will contact the front of the rear fenders as well (but you have to get pretty crazy)
I'm a long time Toyo fan but the A/T has been around a long time and I think it's ready for a redesign. It's a good tire, just kind of bored with it. The R/T was a consideration but we were just drawn to the Nitto. Not sure if it's still true but several years ago I was told by my Toyo rep (I own an auto repair shop and sell tires) that Toyo made tires for Nitto. If you look at them there are definitely a lot of similarities.
I think that greatly depends on the ply or load rating. I never had an issue here in Colorado with the C-rated ones on my lifted 97 4Runner, and I ran some jagged and sharp trails every summer on them. People run into issues with them when they get the 4 ply or the worse SL rated ones and run them on rocky trails.
I hate to hate but I wouldve gone with the falken wildpeak at3w's. Had them on my 2012 z71 5.3l ext cab for 40k miles before trading in on a 19' rst with 20's so I'm here watching a review for a zr2 tires if I can find a set. Glad to see the tire brand gladiator, I've seen the tire on aneighbors 2500 ext cab long bed. Tread pattern is odd
Thanks for the vid. I have been wanting to put bigger tires on my ZR2 so this was a big help. Can you talk about how much modifying you had to do on the fenders to make everything work? I couldn’t notice any changes.
I have Nitto Trail Grapplers in my 2014 Z/71 and luve them except for the noise. So, on my 2010 unlimited Rubicon I went with the Ridge Grappler’s. Not as much noise but I cant get them to balance. My worn out Duratracks rode smoother than the Nittos. Hope you have better luck.
Ouch! I hate tires that won't balance. These balanced very nicely (the worst tire needed less than 2 oz.) Have you tried having your tire "road force" balanced? Hunter makes a balancer that simulates the weight of the vehicle on the tire while balancing and it can also tell if the tire/rim combo can be turned/matched to balance better. We have one in our shop and it really helps to diagnose those problems. You'd be surprised how many new tires (from all manufacturers) have tires that balance out on a regular machine but can't pass a road force test. Good luck!
Brooke and Alan Yep, road force balanced 3 times. The tire dealer just kinda gave up and I have too. I loved my 285 Duratracs. They did well on the road, in the mud and in the rocks at Moab
Did you do anything to correct the speedo and shift points? Is it noticeable with the taller tires and stock gears? Love the video and the truck, keep them coming..
We haven't done anything to correct speedo or gearing. Power is still excellent with the Duramax diesel. I think it would easily pull 35's with stock gearing. I know guys with the gas engine and 35's and it kills the power until they regear. Our speedo is only off 2-3 mph at 60 so it hasn't been a problem yet. I would like to eventually get a tuner that gives me the option to adjust for tire size but probably won't do that until after warranty expires. Thanks for watching!
Great first couple of vids - you guys deserve the rapid growth in subscribers based on the quality and the straightforward ( but entertaining) way you're delivering information. Just curious what you guys think about the gearing after swapping to a 33" tire. I know with the diesel's torque its a bit less of an issue, but the gearing isn't that great to start with at 3.42... Also, will the spare 33" fit in the stock location, or will it be permanently resigned to taking up space in the bed?
The little diesel barely even notices the bigger tires (that’s one of the reasons I opted for it to begin with) It feels like it could easily handle 35’s. Mileage took about a 1 mpg hit. Can’t speak for the V6 but based on my experiences I would guess it handles 33’s ok but will definitely need gearing if you go larger. I think a 33” spare will fit underneath but I don’t like how it affects ground clearance. I’m looking at options to mount the spare but may end up fabricating my own since I want to keep the bed as useable as possible.
That is a great tire! I had a set on one of my older trucks and they were perfect when I lived near Moab. If they had a little better sidewall tread I would have considered them.
Nice vid. Great job to the both of you. I have the Nitto Ridge 285 75 17 and BF AT KO2 in 265 75 16. I will not take my ridge grapplers off road. They chunk really bad. The KO2 does better in rocky areas. My lava rock crawler runs the KO2.
The BFG is also 3 peak snow rated. Not sure about the others. Thank you for bringing this up, we rarely get snow where we are in Texas so it really wasn't a consideration for us. But you are right about the Duratracs in the snow - they are awesome. I've recommend them many times to people who have to deal with snow and they love them. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for the video. I'm curious on your choice of front leveling supplier as well as what needed to be trimmed? Do you have a video covering that, or a web site to refer to?
Yes we’ve seen about a 1 mpg drop but cold weather hit right after installing tires and the truck definitely spends more time idling/warming up than before so I don’t know how accurate that is. Hwy mpg is still in the low 20’s

That's awesome to hear! Toyo makes a great tire and those RT's look good. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Regards to the BFG a 10 ply isn't going to make the daily commute any harder, if you're worried about ride quality just run a few psi less air pressure. I run them on my Colorado and the wife's crosstrek, rain, snow, dirt, mud they're such a great all rounder and have really really good tread life.
madrx2 Yes those KO2s are amazing tires. One of the best out there for sure

Have BFG 305 65/18’s on my ‘17 Z71
Colorado Duramax , daily driver very little road noise actually, love the tires & an amazing look most Colorado’s out there do not achieve. Have BDS-Zone lift/Fox coil overs provide amazing like factory ride . Missing the ZR2 front bumper/clearance & lockers though. Tow with this over high Colorado Mtns and performs great.
Next time look into the Falken Wildpeak At3W. I have these on my 80 Land Cruiser and they are incredible. The price is great too.
They are one of the best deals out there! Thanks for watching!
Put some on my '17 trd offroad. They are awesome all around, including snow wheeling.
Nigel Naughton planning on putting a set on my Pro-4X Titan. For the price and the mileage warranty, hard to beat.
Justin M trust me, you'll love them. Look on eBay for discount tire page. Sometimes they offer really good prices and rebates and I had the local Tires Plus match the price so i didn't have to wait for shipping. Enjoy.
Best. And at $140 a tire
At least say who you are:
It was 2009 when our passion for people and cars came together and out of that came Treadworks Tire & Auto, our Auto repair facility. The ride we have been on has been amazing! From our first 2 bay shop, to changing the name of our company to Alan’s Wrench in 2015 we have been dedicated to serving the Texas Hill Country through it all. We owe a debt to our customers for riding along with us. We hope you continue to be part of our journey!
thanks guys. Lot of nice vehicles for sure. I like the nitto tires you chose and in person are very good looking tires.
Can't go wrong with BFG KO2
Agree. If you’re not sure which tire to go with just pick the BFG and you’ll probably be happy 😃 Thanks for watching!
Both scenarios a couple times each have been pretty traumatic, so she's hasn't wanted to go for quite a while
Oh man! That is tough! But the good news is that she’s “on the fence”
Hey guys, I have a 2016 Colorado 2wd. Do yall know what's the biggest tire I can run without doing any trimming? Great videos by the way!
We are Long time TOYO fans! Great tires!
Alan you sir have the best combo A BEAUTIFUL WIFE WITH AN AWESOME TRUCK. Great simple and straight to the point video and great tire choice.
Don’t I know it!
strait to the point video??? he spent over 5 minutes of an 8 minute video showing all the tires he didnt chose.
Beauty and the Grease - I love it!!!! Guess who is going to help me pick out tires for my jeep!
O the fun of picking tires. I went with a cooper st maxx and have loved them. Not loud to me and they hook up great.
And they look cool too! Thanks for watching!
I put 20” Michelin on mine . Smooth and quite on the road and 90” off road rugged to match my mostly daily driver needs
Brooke and Alan, have you all checked out the General Grabber line up? The APT is an awesome all season/all terrain tire, and they have more aggressive models for true all terrain and then mud. Hard to beat that quality at that price.
The 10 ply BFG's are really, really heavy too. They killed the already lousy mileage on my 2008 Tacoma.
Tom Giovanni buy a Colorado diesel
Great video guys ! We’re running same tire and same size on our 4 Runner we also Love them!
Thanks! We need to put some miles on them together!
I’m really looking forward to getting the 2021 zr2. havent decided if duramax. never worked with diesel before.
ive always loved this style of colorado... how is the zr2 holding up? do u have the v6 or diesel engine package? i love the look of it, have you considered a rooftop tent? would that be an option for your in the future? and are there any aftermarket front bumpers or winch kits to adapt the stock to accept a winch w a little cutting of the front bumper...
also how do you like the rear and front lockers compared to a jeep what would you say? better than a sahara and a rubicon or somehwere in between... very interested to hear what you have to say i hope the suspension is holding up well also.... anyways take care.. cheers..
Earned a new subscriber! Just bought a z71 duramax Colorado. Coming from a full size duramax, I have a lot to learn!
Sweet! Welcome along for the ride!
Thanks! We've been married almost 18 years and this TH-cam thing has been pretty fun for us!
Thanks!
Check out the Mickey Thompson ATZP3’s. Put 50,000 so far and still look great. No cracking and a lot of tread still. Not much noise either.
Your 80 sounds like my 80....Fat piggy probably describes it best! Thanks for the comment!
Looking forward to a video showing where you trimmed to fit the bigger tires. I want to upgrade the 31s on my ZR2 as well.
Depending how big you go and what rom size you stay with you may want that extra stiffness.
nice work, always love the rumble of that little diesel that came at the end.
When will you upgrade your front and rear bumpers - then onto winches and essential off-road equipment?
Ken Moore - In my opinion bumpers and other essentials are a high priority but I haven’t found anyone offering bumpers I’m in love with yet. Maximizing approach and departure angles is a big deal for me but I also want it to look good. It may be time to do some fabrication to get exactly what I want but that’s a time consuming process.....I will however be showing off MY daily driver (LX450) pretty soon and many of the upgrades I’ve already done to it (bumpers, winch etc)
Great videos, great production quality! Keep it up! Thanks.
Thanks!
We still waiting for the next video of you guys!
I just bought a ZR2 and I’m new to the truck/off roading stuff. I want to add 33” tires as well. Where do I start? What kind of leveling kit did you use. And fender trimming? Please help and thanks!
Wow thanks u guys jus helped me decide which tires to put on my 2018 canyon it's my daily driver 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I am really liking the nitto ridge grapplers, but don’t want to alter my stock ZR2, can you recommend a larger size from stock without having to trim or lift any further
Thanks
Try a 265/70r17 it's the same width but about an inch taller - it's available in 6 or 10 ply versions. No guarantee's but I bet it fits without rubbing
Brooke and Alan thank you, I assume I want the 6 ply, since it will have better on road manners
v mann yes the 6ply is nicer on road which is why Brooke likes them!
I'm planning on purchasing a new truck later this year, the diesel ZR2 is a top choice. Like you, it will also be a daily driver. What fuel mileage are you experiencing? Thanks!
20mph in town and 13 on the trail. We have the diesel!
Nice! My Subaru Crosstrek only averages 22 - 23 city driving.
22-24 hwy
I have a z71 diesel it gets good mpgs but it is slow. I think it has a 0-60 time of 10 sec.
I'm used to driving an underpowered Subaru with CVT. Great car, but very slow.
Great choice, I ended up with BFG but was splitting hairs choosing between them and Nitto, interested in hearing how you like them
Have about 12K on the Nitto's now and they are still really good.
Great video... does your ZR2 fit in a standard garage with the leveling kit and the new 33? I’m looking at making some minor upgrades to my ZR2
Cooper st maxx's are pretty good as well. I have personal experience with these and are fantastic.
I love the video..Please tell us about mileage and daily driving since the majority of us will drive this as a daily driver
How come you didn’t pick the BFG K02. That’s what I run on my ZR2 good all around tire also not to loud. Just a little more then the Goodyear .....
Did you see the Toyo Open Country? It’s my favorite tire, and not a lot of on road noise. I run them on my Diesel Silverado.
Nice tire choice! Goodyear duratracs are a decent tire but they have the weakest sidewalls out of any of the makes.
Thank you for this informative video..it should help once I get to deciding which tires to put on my 87 4runner.
Oh my goodness! She takes my breath away!
I have BFG'S on my f250. I didn't like them at first because they seemed a little unstable at highway speeds. Give them time to settle into the job.
Texas Wheeler here... Love yalls vids keep up the work...
rock on 🤘😎🤘
Javier Padron Awesome to hear from another Texas wheeler! Thanks for watching!
Brooke and Alan stop by and check out my channel love to colab with yall...
We will check it out!
I prefer the nitto trail grappler but still a great choice
I’ve ran primewell Valera a/t and enjoyed them. Not too loud on road, looks like a mud tire, cheap, and got 50k miles out of them taking them offroad
Truck looks good, I like the tire choice.
Thanks!
Thanks for the vid. I have been wanting to put bigger tires on my ZR2 so this was a big help. Can you talk about how much modifying you had to do on the fenders to make everything work? I couldn’t notice any changes.
Our newest video just came out and covers fender trimming. Trimming is pretty minor so it doesn't stand out
I have Nitto Trail Grapplers in my 2014 Z/71 and luve them except for the noise.
I have a 2018 ZR2 Diesel and love it.
Brooke and Alan Time for an ECM/TCM tune! :)
We didn't go with the BFG KO2 b/c it's too tough and makes the ride harder. Got it.
You guy's picked the right tire for your truck
General grabber at2 is quiet, great traction, and priced right
That is a great tire! I had a set on one of my older trucks and they were perfect when I lived near Moab. If they had a little better sidewall tread I would have considered them.
Have you guys done a regear on it or thought about it at all?
Nice vid. Great job to the both of you. I have the Nitto Ridge 285 75 17 and BF AT KO2 in 265 75 16. I will not take my ridge grapplers off road. They chunk really bad. The KO2 does better in rocky areas. My lava rock crawler runs the KO2.
Good to know. So far no issues with our Nitto's and so far all they see is rock and road. Thanks for commenting!
Definitely agree with upsizing....I've heard from pretty much everyone nittos get loud tho
Love that snap on jacket wanna order one did u get it thru a truck dealer or website
Are any of these tire three mountain peak snow rated? That is why I love the Duratrac’s. They are awesome in the snow as well as on and off road.
I love it when some one will trim a fender on a new truck to fit a bigger tire on it
THANKS!!! We wheeled our truck when we still had paper license plates! When it’s in your blood it’s on your blood!
Thanks for the video.
I'm curious on your choice of front leveling supplier as well as what needed to be trimmed? Do you have a video covering that, or a web site to refer to?
Great video production
I'd like to know if you notice a difference in mileage with the larger tires and leveling kit
Yes we’ve seen about a 1 mpg drop but cold weather hit right after installing tires and the truck definitely spends more time idling/warming up than before so I don’t know how accurate that is. Hwy mpg is still in the low 20’s
Those are nice, How loud are they compared to the stock on road/highway.
All says they are quieter Brooke says they are the same!
Hey I have a 2017 GMC Sierra all Terrian and I want to put some all terrian tires but that will do good on the road and off which do you recommend?
You should show where you trimmed.
It will be in one of our next videos! Thanks for watching!
When?
You guys haven’t posted much about the Colorado?
