It never ceases to amaze me just how "noodley" the iron rails look like when they're picked up by heavy equipment. They're heavy and immovable with human-scale power, but pick them up with an excavator, and they seem no more solid than cooked spaghetti.
I don't think I've ever commented on one of your videos before (although I enjoy them all) but this one is just awesome. What an excellent documentation of what this job entails.
@@JawTooth Hi, What do they do with all the used railroad ties and the rails? How often do they replace the rails and ties? That is a lot different now than when the railroads first started laying down track . You don’t have as many people pounding each rail.
It's great that you document this stuff, always interesting too. I have to compliment you on your camera work, you know how to hold a camera steady and pan at a reasonable rate, which really helps make these videos enjoyable.
Great work Jaw Tooth. This took a lot of effort and is a fine insight into what goes on "behind the scenes" on a railroad. Thanks for all the great videos.

Prefabrication is the key to speed of the operation, not to mention the John Deere tractor operator. Also the standby crew in the vehicles ready to rock'n'roll their highly specialized roles once the ballast has been reset ❤😊
Absolutely amazing work JT! I left my phone at work and Mom and I just caught it. We thank you for your time and dedication. So AWESOME!!! William from Moms account.❤ Got you a new sub too.
years ago, I didn't think putting down 30 inch length flex track on my N- scale layout looked realistic. Now I find out it's as close to real as you can get. I never once thought train track was pre-assembled in such length. Then watching them knock out the sleepers like how they do it really blew me away. Today's technology in laying rail is amazing, and can be copied in scale.
I’m amazed they have a street running train like this still in existence. I mean look at how many cars they had on that train going through that street! Train had to be a mile long at least. Just moving along a street in town nothing to see here 😂 Would love to see this in the snow. Bet that makes for a great Christmas scene especially if they run a holiday train on the short line
I watched some of this on Virtual Railfan, but your street level view provides more closeup details and is complementary to their high up views. Good job.
Your video shows a lot more up close activity and work the railroad employees did versus the video that was shot from the cctv cameras . Another great video Jaw Tooth . thanks
thanks jt for the amazing look how they replace the street running train you done an amazing gob documenting this process this will help me model this on my h o scale railroad thanks again for an amazing video. love all your videos especially the street running trains..val in utah
Thanks JT, a very cool video. Will let the public see the steps involved in how to change out rail, ties, and ballast all at the same time. Also how the new track is aligned.
The machine that aligns and tamps the ties starts at the 51:16 mark in the video. The rigging out in the front of the main machine has a set of lasers on it. This machine is working for several minutes and you can see it stop over each cross tie and picks it up and adjust the ballast under and around each cross tie.to it’s proper level and when it’s done the tracks are level and very straight with the proper gauge..

You missed one very important part. The VRF fans, though online donations given in the live chat on the cameras donated and paid for a full pizza lunch for all these hard workers. They set up a covered area right by the main crossing and all enjoyed a hot meal on us.

Well, Bear, you make nice films by railroad, I am surprised as a European that American cities are crossed by a railway line, but this was due to the fact that first lines were built from town to town, then a non-residential, office one was built. One more departure from Europe from other continents, countries, European trains are lighter and shorter. Beautiful bran new tracks awesome ❤
One way to look at it from a locals point of view is that CSX is paying for a newly paved road and not the city! Great job on the hour plus long video

A necessary replacement ? or gotta spend the money before they give to some other department !
