it really doesn't deserve a 9 or a 10. And i'm a heavy Joji fan... His music speaks to my soul, isome songs have kissed me in my most tragic moments. But no, not even close to an 8 this album. 18 songs makes it more a compilation than an album. Big mistake (he did it for more streams, more money, wich is fair, but it kills the album). The album has amazing highs, but it gets lost in repition and redundance in sound (18 songs is, again, a really naive and absurd way to compose an album...). Think about the best albums in history, the giants like Sgt Peppers or Pet Sounds, or Drak Side of the Moon, it's all 13 songs maximum ! It's a story, a poetic narration, a composition, filled with colors or with shadows. This album is a 6. I think Ballads 1 has that composition, making it a 6.5 for me. And Smithereens, with Glimpse of Us being, imo, one the best love songs of all tkme, is a 7.
Vegimite Sushi on first listen 8. But after repeated listens of the whole thing from a critical viewpoint I can see it dipping to a 6 for him, good album with plenty of flaws
@@cccbeats_ Ballads 1 is his worst album. Nectar is Ballads 1 refined to feel less artificial. In Tongues is also really good, and doesn't feel as manufactured as Ballads 1.

Honestly, this one feels less corporate than ballads to me. The few tracks preceding this one had a very organic feel. And I like the tracks that are more acoustic. And the three main single run is insane.
