    I like my iPhone but LOVE my Pocket 3. I walked the Camino Frances from St Jean Pied de Port to Finistere between April - June this year and used both devices, but the Pocket 3 was much more convenient & instantly produced superb footage and clean audio (thanks to the additional mic). Both are great but as a dedicated camera - the DJI Pocket 3 is superior with VASTLY less faffing around.

      @TrailerYacht, your comment is very helpful as I will be walking the Camino next April and plan to document with my Pocket 3 and Mic 2. Did you find yourself needing the additional charging handle or other external battery bank along the route? I am packing so light weight, I don’t want to carry even an ounce more than necessary. Thanks in advance for your insights.

    What a phenomenal video. This is exceptionally well done with a lot of detail and real world outdoor tests. This puts many other (larger) channels to shame. I just found your channel but I’m anxious to see more of your videos (Nikon Z8 owner)

    It’s definitely really hard to judge pure image quality on a phone screen.. but when it comes to editing 4K footage on a proper computer, I would never use iPhone, really .. that computational videography you mention in the review is precisely what makes feel the footage so artificial. I just bought a pocket 3 a few weeks ago and I’m blown away how it’s capable of generating pretty “cinematic” footage (sorry for using the C word .. ) .. or at least I would call it “natural looking” with that slight depth of field.. I always shoot D-log M and yet it’s not as flat a slog3 for example it has a quite impressive dynamic range.
    I also agree on what you said about preferring using a dedicated device for filming than using a phone that well , you use all the time for communication, navigation, weather, notes.. you name it ..
    I also the pocket 3 for Timelapse’s in movement ..
    And also , for file size only .. just for that .. I think the iPhone is totally useless.. so yes, for me it would be pocket 3 all the way

    Comments on videography only - I own the DJI OP3, and I love it. I even mix the footage with a Canon C300 M3 and get away with it. I do not like the “computational photography” of the iPhone, and I think it is almost useless when you mix it in post with other higher-end cameras. The iPhone just looks digital, while the Pocket gets a more natural look every time.

      I agree with you. the shadow lift on the iPhone to give it that pho HDR look drives me crazy. When shooting in apple log you get no sharpening and a MUCH better image to work with but the files are HUGE

    iPhone 16 Pro is great for a social media. However - it is difficult to consider it as the main camera. The sensor size matters. I have purchased iPhone 16 Pro yet 3 weeks ago, and compared with OP3 in different low-light conditions. Also, iPhone has a very annoying camera crashes.

    The iPhone is going to make great videos for the large majority of people. But I feel like people who own dedicated cameras like the Pocket 3 actually make better videos because they probably have the talent and experience. At the end of the day, the person filming is the determining factor, not the camera itself. And someone who takes the money and effort to purchase a camera instead of a phone probably has that experience and know-how to get the nice shot. Great video. Always jealous of your scenery!

    Hi, I have a question about the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 camera. Why does the file size of a video change during transfers? For example, a video file may show as 500 MB in the Mimo app, increase to 510 MB after being downloaded to a phone, and then decrease to 180 MB when transferred to a computer. Similarly, why does a file that starts at 500 MB decrease to only 100 MB when AirDropped from the Mimo app or a mobile device to a system? What causes these size changes? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

    I own both devices and as much as I want to just carry and use one device, I find myself drawn to the Pocket 3 for image quality and simplicity of just turning it on and recording without needing to open or adjust software, add ND filters to my phone, or fiddle with any extra bits to make the iPhone do what I want it to do. I also find that battery charging, file storage, and overheating in full sun are real world considerations for the iPhone, where the Pocket 3 doesn’t run into these issues as readily. That said, I don’t really enjoy filming with the Pocket 3. Its mechanical gimbal and swivel lens don’t feel natural to me, but when I review the footage, it’s always pleasing to my eye. So for now, the Pocket 3 is my primary go to device over the iPhone 16 Pro, Insta360 Go3, and DJI Action cameras. If I only have one of those on me, then I will film with what I have, otherwise I will intentionally pack the Pocket 3 and Mic 2 for a day of filming. Thanks for making this comparison video. I honestly can’t get enough of them. The addiction is real 😉

    10:51 is there a way to make the Pocket 3 focus on the entire scene like the Iphone is doing? Detail on the iphone looks so much better even though it has a smaller sensor, and it's all because of the deeper depth of field. I want to get the pocket 3 to make car chase scenes for documentary style youtube videos but I am afraid it will always make the subject (the car) in focus while everything else out of focus. I want to avoid that effect and would want the entire scene in focus. I want to get the pocket 3 because of the motorized gimble functionality where it's able to follow a moving subject automatically without operator input.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      because of physics there is no way to keep everything in focus with the pocket 3 IF your subject is close to the lens of the pocket 3. you would need to be at least 5-6ft away to keep the background in focus

    Just for fun it would be interesting to compare the Mavic 3, with these cameras because a lot of people are now using the Mavic 3 hand held on a bracket to film or take pictures in a verity of projects. Maybe because it is stable, and the big sensor is better than some DSLR cameras, therefore the Mavic 3 may reduce the amount of cameras required on a particular project.

      I have used my old crashed Phantom like that. Surprising how good the footage is, but you still have to faff about connecting DJI apps on your phone - it gets annoying rather than grab & go. Separately recording & synchronising audio in post is another step & gets a bit tedious - BUT HEY - the best camera is the one you own or have with you.

    iPhone adds a lot of sharpness - smartphone sharpness - and in low light it can't compete. HDR processing, e.g. in the scene with sun in background and thus your face in shadows, on iPhone or any other phone of today surely gives you more "shadow details". This sounds good first, but truth is this image processing looks rather fake. Don't like it at all. They're overdoing it these days, but maybe Insta generation doesn't care, only some older folks with fotographic background ...
    Unfortunately DJI did enhance this in Action5 compared to Action4 as well (though not as drastic as iPhone), so maybe it'll be good idea to keep Pocket 3 when Pocket 4 is launched. But as always the best cam is the one you have available - so it's a good thing smartphones have come this far.
    And of course maybe the biggest advantage is to have 3 different lenses on a pro model phone these days. Shooting on an action cam or Pocket 3 is quite limited as there is almost always something interesting happening you need a tele lense for

    The weakest point of the Pocket 3 is that it is NOT AT ALL waterproof. On Camino I used a "Scotty Makes Stuff" case for the Pocket 3, and kept it clipped to the sternum strap of my pack. Very reassuring as it makes it hard to hit the gimbal - not impossible, just hard to do it. I knocked over & even dropped my Pocket 3 a few times, and all was OK. However I do a lot of sailing - which seriously limits the Pocket 3 and makes me extremely glad I bought the DJI refresh package as a back up. I immerse my iPhone all the time in salt water & use it instead of the Pocket 3 anytime it is raining.

    Final thoughts - this video shows just how capable the iPhone can be as a video camera - however, the need to use external memory card is a lot of faffing and likely risky if you bump or damage the cable or card reader in the middle of shooting. To me this is a little unfair to the Pocket 3. I'd like to see a comparison with the iPhone using it's internal storage & normal camera app like I used in Spain. 2:52 vs 4:52
    still, where is the wider angle of the field of view. your examples contradict each other.
    If they started comparing under the same conditions, then they should have continued to do so.
    as a result, we see a different jumping angle of the lens field of view everywhere
    this is not a camera comparison. this is a comparison of how your editing program enlarges/reduces the image.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bull… 2:52 has no wide angle lens on the pocket 3 and is using thw 24mm lens on the iPhone. 4:52 is using the ultra wide camera on the iPhone and wide angle lens attached to the pocket…

      The thing i love about the Pocket 3 is that I can record video without any annoying notifications. Plus, when using it with the dji mic 2, the Noise Reduction and internal record works. Those don't work with a smartphone or connected to a non-dji camera; i can't get them to work on my Samsung S23 Ultra or Insta360 X3. So if I wanna use it with those devices, I have to disconnect the Mic 2 from either device and use it standalone. Also with the Pocket 3, magnetic filters to add ND to add motion blur whereas with an iPhone, it needs a special case to add any kinds of filters
