- Meet Manoj Sarkar, a para-badminton player, a Paralympic medalist, and an Arjuna Awardee. His condition arose because of the wrong medical treatment at the age of 1.
Undeterred, he started playing badminton at the age of 5. Spotting his potential in able-bodied badminton, an expert suggested he explore para-sports.
In 2011, he experienced his first-ever para badminton national championship. Despite different rules, Manoj went on to win two gold medals. The first international calling came in 2011, which he could not attend due to financial constraints. In 2012, with the mortgage loan and support from the GoSports Foundation, he participated in the same event in 2012.
Manoj's talent was evident early on. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a national champion and a key player in the Indian Para-badminton Team.
Soon, he became a part of India’s first-ever Paralympic badminton contingent. His faith was rewarded when he won the bronze in Tokyo.
In quest for his 80th international medal in Paris, we wish all the best
