In another report (not AU) they collected non-fatal incidents which were indeed caused by mobiles, but because hundreds of them still on land can interfere with ground communication. Such incidents have no fatalities, but were admittedly quite risky (e.g. about baggage trucks and other vehicles potentially hitting small planes). So the problem might not be that your phone puts the plan instrumentation in danger, but that hundreds of phone can annoy the device on land. In a nutshell, it is still valid: IF THEY SAY "TURN IT OFF", TURN IT OFF!
