Lockdown Files: Behind the scenes of The Telegraph's investigation into Matt Hancock's WhatsApps

  • The WhatsApps that sent shockwaves through Westminster and created a historic showdown between the Government and the Covid inquiry almost ended up on a Caribbean Island, writes Isabel Oakeshott.
    I had been wondering what to do with the huge cache of messages I had obtained from Matt Hancock as part of a joint book project. Stored on a hard drive, the exchanges between the former health secretary and all the key figures involved in handling the pandemic offered an unparalleled insight into the greatest crisis of our times.
    Some of the material was in the book we wrote together, but we simply hadn’t had time to wade through all his iPhone records. Now I needed to figure out where to keep the files. They were an extraordinary historical source.

    Instead of worrying about who broke lockdowns we should be paying attention to the several recent, and highly reputable, studies that conclude that lockdowns were completely ineffective. What's more important, people breaking pointless restrictions, or imposing restrictions that were absolutely useless but insanely damaging to the country?

      I don't trust those sources. The effect of lockdowns in many countries are clearly seen in the curves showing the increase vs decrease numbers when restrictions were lifted. A perfect example ( one of many) was the last lockdown in Austria during the Christmas season in 2021 . Google those curves and see for yourself how the cases curve dropped instantly after lockdown was ordered.

    • @Eduardo-jo9jc
      @Eduardo-jo9jc ปีที่แล้ว

      fully agree. However, since much before the 'pandemic' that lockdowns, masks, border closures, schools closures among other restrictions were not recommended whatsoever; the source is the pandemic preparedness plan from WHO approved in Q3-4/2019. this was all thrown in the bin and the decision was to follow no other than the Chinese model. The politicians found there a source of popularity and the rest we all know. Deplorable!
