Which is the only Airport of the No.1 Smart City of India - Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar is also known as the Temple City. This airport features hundreds of daily flights from and to different cities in India. It is the sole International Airport in the State.
Biju Patnaik International Airport (IATA: BBI, ICAO: VEBS) is located int he Indian city of Bhubaneswar, the capital city of the state of Odisha, and just 3 km from Bhubaneswar city centre. Even it is more known as Bhubaneswar Airport, it was renamed as Biju Patnaik International Airport in honour to Biju Patnaik, who was an important Indian politician and chief minister of Odisha state.
“Bhubaneswar” means in Hindi the Lord of the Universe, and that’s why this city is also known as the Temple City of India. It has hundreds of temples and it’s very famous for its spiritual trips. So Bhubaneswar is the Hindu pilgrimage centre and the most representative symbol of it is the temple of Tribhubaneswar. Other famous spiritual attractions are the cities of Puri and Korak and the temples Mukteswar, Bindu Sagar, Shatrughaneswar, Vaital or Parashurameswar.
In 2016, Bhubaneswar Airport (BBI) handled 2,332,433 passengers, increasing one 23% more its passenger influx, being one of the 50 busiest airports in India.
It is the newest Terminal 1 (inaugurated in 2013) which operates with international and domestic connections within India. It counts with aerobridges, elevators, automatic stairs, 16 check-in desks, a spa and many other services and facilities.
