Good day! My name is Andy. How are you?
Let's talk about the Tumshuqese Language.
Tumshuqese Language
Tumshuqese is an extinct Eastern Iranian language that was spoken in the city of Tumshuq, located in present-day Xinjiang, China. It is closely related to the Khotanese language and is known primarily from a limited number of fragmentary texts written in the Brahmi script, dating from around the 8th to 10th centuries CE. The language exhibits significant Middle Iranian characteristics. Tumshuqese likely had influences from surrounding languages such as Tocharian and Old Chinese due to its location on the Silk Road.
Tumshuqese People and Culture
The Tumshuqese people were an ancient Iranian-speaking community who lived in the oasis city of Tumshuq, which was part of the larger Tarim Basin civilization. They were influenced by both Indian and Chinese cultures, evident in their use of Brahmi script and their possible involvement in Buddhist religious practices. Tumshuq was a crucial stop on the Silk Road, facilitating cultural and economic exchanges between Central Asia, China, and South Asia. Over time, the Tumshuqese people assimilated into the broader populations of the Tarim Basin, with their language eventually disappearing as Turkic languages, such as Uyghur, became dominant in the region.
