      First, some basic notion about information vs data. The short version is that data only becomes information once it's contextualized properly.
      Second, some notions about data bases. They store data (duh) not information if we consider my first statement. Context stays with the sender, the only thing that travels is data. In order for this data to turn back into information, sender and receiver agree on a common context beforehand. This is often implemented in the form of protocols.
      Now in the case of Mario Maker, element types and x,y positions along with some user information is what any given level turns into: a huge list of game objects and their basic attributes. The level is de-assembled by the creator's console and all that actually makes it to the DB are some instructions for re-assembly.
      In a bug-les scenario (basically imposible to achieve to a 100% extent), this crunching and de-crunching wouldn't be a problem. The nightmare starts when spurious, unpredictable and emergent information manages to determine behavior that is easily lost during the whole assembling and reassembling process.
      For example, let's say that, due to a bug, the order a bunch of objects are loaded ACTUALLY MATTERS and results in different results in-game. This bug could be a slight discrepancy between how the console and how the servers handle data. Since you are not allowed to upload a course unless you beat it in your machine, if by some miracle the level is doable in your end but ends up objectively imposible in other player's console that reasemble it, we have a problem.
      Now let's try another example, one that more closely taps into the Psycro conundrum: what if for a brief period of time an emergent behavior appears that is only posible by filling "illegal" or malformed data in the resulting list of course elements? As long as no maintenance is done to the DB, those weirdly long indexes that allow for multiple objects in the same tile (for example) are fine and dandy.
      But the moment some bot detects that this one level has and entire Queen song in the title field that had a character limit of 20 we have a huge problem in our hands:
      Do we allow this malformed level building instruction sets to stay and open ourselves to involuntary DDOS by our own users? Do we trim the offending field? How do we know if that means the new resulting assembled level is actually imposible? There's no other way, level has to go, no matter how pissy users get. If an user actively keeps uploading corrupt levels as long as he can, a ban might be in order. User is misbehaving.
      Sigh...Let's just patch whatever allowed the song-sized name to begin with and launch an update so a new context is agreed between consoles and server, which will sadly "break" levels. Everything to avoid actually imposible levels to pop up during play, that's just not fair nor fun.
      With all this background, excuse for seeing people getting upset over this kind of decisions as whiny entitled little ignorant twats, specially considering the service is completely free.

    Hey,ceave.I found a cool thing with the spiketop glitch.
    I’ll tell you the way,build the normal spiketop glitch but with a Monty mole then a thwomp and a noteblock to bounce the spiketop up out of the way.The thwomp follows Mario loosely,like the mole!
    Wire that to a p-switch and so when Mario passes a point,BOOM,the floor turns into shiny,yet deadly coins....(get it?)

    My explanation to the p-switch and muncher problem is that munchers are like solid blocks, so if they are placed on top of the p-switch, neither load because it acts like a block. But if you place the p-switch on top, then because munchers aren't actually blocks, it allows you to place it on top, therefore both loading.

    I think fixing glitches in a level creator is not the best thing Nintendo could do. Glitches are one of the most enjoying stuff of Video games. And Levels which use patched Glitches are not playable any more.

    Nintendo is dumb. In a game like this, glitches would NORMALLY provide a set of new and fresh mechanics that could be used by level designers to create interesting things. But now, Nintendo has to regularly introduce new features and patches, both of which take time and money. Leaving glitches in would be better for the game AND cheaper for Nintendo.

    Ceave, I've Watched Almost All Your Videos And They're Great! I Wish I Was As Much Of A Mad Scientist As You And Wish I Could Come Up With Cool Ideas In Mario Maker. I'm Making A Mostly Regular Formula Mario Game And It'd Be Great If You Could At Least Star It But It Would Be AWESOME If You Could Do A Video About Playing The 16 Levels I'll Make Eventually And Even Cooler If You Could Kind Of Pick Some Parts That Have Good Design And Talk About Them.       do cannons on both sides of mario (a narrow gap so mario can pretty much not move and only jump) and place blocks in. if he misses he'll die to the cannon

    There are also two vine glitches that can be used to make vines look AS in the ground but they're in the air and a second one that does the opposite oft that the first one is doable with a pipe and the second one with tracks in the ground

    The winged block glitch also works with brick blocks.
    ed: And hard blocks aswell, if you want a stronger winged block airship with multiple big goombas inside it for no apparent reason.

    the whole story of sisyphus was like - one day, the god of death(thanatos) walked into sisyphus's house, meaning to reap him. But, sisyphus banged him on the head and hid him. Then ares, the god of war, who liked seeing death , saw the lack of death, and found him at sisyphus's house,. Death and ares vaporized sisyphus in a double blast of godly power. Then, sisyphus convinced hades, the god of the underworld, to be alive for a few minutes to convinced his wife to do proper funeral rights. Then, turns out sisyphus lied. He kept a low profile, hid at home, and whenever he needed to go out, he wore a fake beard. One day, thanatos reminded hades about sisyphus, and hades called hermes, the messenger of the gods and god of trickery, to bring sisyphus, and then he got that punishment.

    The muncher and p-switch loading thing is because of the way the game handles sprites most likely, it loads them from a very long list, and the order you place the objects in affects the order of that list. if the muncher is on that list first it loads, and then the p-switch loads, but if the p-switch is first the muncher can't load.

    I sometimes feel like Nintendo never completely patches glitches, just patches them enough to not completely break the game for new players.Example:"Why is there no Yoshi coming from the note block? Why is Mario in a wall? Why are there suddenly a ton of clown cars? Why are koopas coming out of nowhere? Why did this yoshi egg make a mushroom? Why are there so many springs? Why is this podobo round and glitching? Why is this arrow spinning? Why does Ceave hate hammer bros?"
    Admit it, you were asking yourself my last question some point.

    I think Nintendo should make a level/game in which the enemies can use the same power ups Mario uses so if an enemy gets to say a fire flower before Mario the enemy gets fire power! Or mushroom/grows, star/invincible & deadly til it wears off, etc

    This is a trick to get the piranha plant to go through a "hard" block which is a block that is light gray and is destroyed only by bombs and big thwamps. Create a box formation with ground bricks that's 5 going up x 4 going across. Get a track and put it across the lower part inside the box. Then, put a hard block on the track so it goes left and right along the lower part of the box. Now, put a block that can be activated by a "P" switch in the middle of the box (I put mine mid right) and place a piranha plant on that block. Make Mario jump on a "P" switch. This will make the black piranha plant go through the "hard" block that is on the track. Comment is by Sean Jr.

    4:46 that glitch can be patched by putting a brick block under the invisible block, but then the shellmet goes through the one way door which is a new glitch for Super Mario Maker :-)

    The Black Hole Glitch is so cool! It makes for really unique stages! Seriously, would you rather play a boring linear level or a super-cool Black Hole level?

    Getting mario into the wall reminds me of those sections in Odyssey, so I don't know if they patched it but I hope they didn't. It's got great utility!

    The muncher thing is because of spawn order
    When entities spawn they do it in an order.
    When you stack things, first the thing on top spawns, then the thing below

    There's another way to make a black hole in super Mario maker |place a blaster and stack a boo onto the blaster then put a thwomp onto the boo and then place a block to the left of the thwomp then multi-grab the boo and the blaster and copy them under the block you just placed 30-40 times and then erase every thing except for your blasters and copy the blasters 1 more time to the left of your 30/40 blasters and now your done you can do spinning arrows and even more than that!!

    I'm assuming that the reason the muncher/p-switch depends on the order you place them is because the game likely remembers the order you place objects, despite what the UI would say, and loads them as such.

      Also, with the same glitch, if you use ground blocks instead of blasters, it floats up to where the spiketop is..

    The availability of some of these glitches is iffy on the 3DS version, just because some glitches might have been caused by the updates. But I still have a lot of glitches to play around with :D (Btw I got one of the earliest released versions of Mario Maker for the 3DS)

    I made an super fast goomba multiplier machine one time!
    It's very easy!
    Just put an pipe with a goomba in and copy it and place it at the same place like 100 times!
    Hope it isn't patched yet!

    So ceave. I have found a useless invisible bowser glitch. To do this, first put Down a track slanted. Then add a lava bubble. Shake the track with the lava bubble and make it curved. Then add a mushroom to the bubble on the track to make it big. Then press undo twice. Add a big bowser and then take him off the tracks. He will randomly have a arrow on him. The put him where ever you want. Press the play button and he will fall through everything. Then press edit. He will no longer be there. Press play again and he will respawn for some random reason. ( might only work underground only though.

    I understand. the first item you place is a "first" item. The "first" item has a bigger "standing" value and it will spawn first.

    I found the exact same glitches in Super Mario Maker for 3DS, they're the exact same as on the Wii U Version. I think that these are the glitches the Nintendo missed.

    It seems like almost all of these bugs are impossible to be used to make unbeatable levels since you do still need to beat the stage to post it, and basically none of them can be run into by accident, needing to be done intentionally. It makes me wonder why they patch them out when really all they’re doing is shrinking the pool of available tools for their most loyal makers

    BTW, do you know a PC game Secret Maryo Chronicles? It is dead for about 4 years, but it's still fun. You are free to modify the game's files, there is an editor, unlimited subareas and doors, etc.

    For the p switch and muncher, when you place a p switch or muncher over the other, it calls it the tile parent. When the game is loaded, the game says you can't stack 2 on eachother, so the game removes the tile parent, and leaves the other alone.

    One thing I hate, is big TH-camrs showing off glitches. Because then some asshat goes and reports it to the company that runs the thing. In some cases glitches need to get fixed. Where others, are fun to mess around with, and the game is still beat able.
