2:49 is honestly one of the most pathetic defensive driving efforts i've ever seen. Their reaction was so poor, i can only assume they wanted a chance to get an insurance payout, while not technically being at fault. They were accelerating towards the car for several seconds before finally deciding to brake with a few meters to spare. Was the car wrong for pulling out? Yes. Would 99% of the population simply brake and hit the horn as opposed to charging towards them? Also yes.
The white car wasn't wrong though, his road was clear when that idiot DC driver came barreling around the corner with absolutely no regard to any obstructions that may have been there then continued to accelerate into the obstacle only making a token gesture at braking. My bet is there is going to be a highly inflated insurance claim but the video gives him no excuses. The DC driver is totally to blame for reckless driving.
Although I agree that this was easily avoided, to say that he was flying/barreling around the corner is a bit of a stretch. He went round at 31 and reached 47, hardly what I’d call flying
18:33 Cammer feels entitled to camp overtaking lane. Then speeds up when an undertake is attempted. Only to finish with a potentially fatal Pit manoeuvre. You need to be in gaol.

Yup. The people at fault piss me the hell off, but I've been in some kind of similar situations and - while again I'd still be pissed if someone crashed into me - I'd rather not be involved in a crash at all in the first place and will keep that extra look out/etc if I can avoid that headache.

I know I'm from the US, (EDIT: What I mean is that maybe this isn't taught in Australia, to be fair it probably not even taught in the US anymore) but I've always used the transmission as a failsafe for the E-brake on a manual transmission vehicle by leaving the vehicle in the gear. On the topic being discussed at 12:50 - yeah, you do need a licence to use VHF radio, but we have 40 bands in the UHF range which are free to use without any license. And all Emergency services have their own range of frequencies that only they are allowed to use, so they don't actually need a 'licence' as such. Any set of walkie-talkies should be automatically set to access the free Citizen Bands (those 40 channels in the UHF range), but you'll need a more expensive and advanced handset to access the licensed frequencies. Probably should have just moved into the left lane instead of driving with an ego. They could have avoided the whole accident. I agree the van should not have undertaken, that's far more dangerous. But, if you're in the RH lane and the car behind is going faster, move over. Main rule of the road is keep left unless overtaking.
@@weetbix08 The driver _was_ overtaking. The only person with the out of control ego is the van who thinks he owns the road. The whole accident could have been avoided by the van having some patience, not tailgating, and not attempting to undertake a car without the space to do so. That accident was _100%_ on the van driver.
@anon4854 the Ute clearly accelerates when the van pulls into the left lane... and he easily could have pulled in behind the 4x4, let the van pass and then continued in the RH lane. The right hand lane isn't for patience, it's for overtaking and if a person is coming up behind that is going faster, it is the law for you to move into the left lane. Not doing so, because you think you're going fast enough and the other person should be patient is the very definition of driving with an ego.
@@weetbix08 Even if that was true, and it isnt, ultimately the van is the one who made an unsafe maneuver. There wasnt even close to enough space to merge in front of the ute and he paid for it. The whole incident could have been avoided if the van driver could get over themselves. Look at the road ahead? How far was he going to get before they had to slow down anyway? A couple hundred meters? And for that they cause an accident? That is _100%_ ego right there. The right hand lane is for overtaking. Which is what the ute was doing. They were overtaking the red car behind them and at least the Mitsubishi in front of them. "if a person is coming up behind that is going faster, it is the law for you to move into the left lane" Uh, gonna need a source on that one chief because the rules are you use the right hand lane when overtaking and the ute was overtaking. It had recently overtaken the red car and was in the process of overtaking the Mitsubishi. Never heard of a law that states you have to vacate the right hand lane _while using it for its intended purpose_ just because someone else wants to go faster. "because you think you're going fast enough" Never made that argument. My point is the cam driver was overtaking. Which is the purpose for the right hand lane. The van is the one who broke the law and caused an accident. All becasue he couldnt muster up a little bit of patience. What is that if not ego?

18:47 Gotta say it looks like a retaliatory pit manoeuvre
2:49 is honestly one of the most pathetic defensive driving efforts i've ever seen.
Their reaction was so poor, i can only assume they wanted a chance to get an insurance payout, while not technically being at fault. They were accelerating towards the car for several seconds before finally deciding to brake with a few meters to spare.
Was the car wrong for pulling out? Yes. Would 99% of the population simply brake and hit the horn as opposed to charging towards them? Also yes.
also he came flying around that corner quite fast.
looked like the car was just pulling out as the DC driver made the turn and accelerated out of it
The white car wasn't wrong though, his road was clear when that idiot DC driver came barreling around the corner with absolutely no regard to any obstructions that may have been there then continued to accelerate into the obstacle only making a token gesture at braking.
"Jesus christ I gotta go byyye"

The question is, would they be better at VicRoads' job than VicRoads?

3:30 DC: "I've been driving for 30 years and never had an accident"
4:50 Try explaining that to your boss!
I'd be interested to know how readily they took responsibility, and whether or not the dashcam footage made a difference.
I had this happen to me a few years ago. I had no dashcam back then, and police made out they had their lights and siren on and that i wouldn't move out of their way, and fined me. I took it to court and they showed a cropped image of their car with the lights on. Lying bashteds won and it cost me a fortune.
Mario had a sweet ride!
what baffles me about this is the number of people who arent even responsible for the crash who still could have prevented them. like not to victim blame but keep your eyes on the road far out
That's unfortunately because unlike first world countries none of Australia's driver training teaches anything at all about defensive driving
Yup. The people at fault piss me the hell off, but I've been in some kind of similar situations and - while again I'd still be pissed if someone crashed into me - I'd rather not be involved in a crash at all in the first place and will keep that extra look out/etc if I can avoid that headache.
@@peterbartley7183 yes and no - to a reasonable extent that's true, but if you seriously can't manage that and drive safely, then get off the road. You don't have a right to put others at risk for your convenience.

don't buy one that is mounted on a suction cup. They don't hang on in an accident

@@Karmond Cammer changed lanes to avoid traffic and then stopped without enough room, caused the other 2 vehicles to have to brake.
@@jacksonk1533 And why do you think cammer stopped? For fun? Or do you think maybe maybe there was another car in front that also merged ahead of them?
Caravan was stopped ahead, they should have stopped as opposed to changing lanes without knowing if it was clear or not. 100% cammers fault!
@@Karmondmaybe they shouldn't have changed lanes then if they'ed have to hit the brakes whilst doing so. That action significantly reduced the braking distance of the Hyundai and even more so the ute behind (who isn't without fault may I add).
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that changing lanes in front of moving traffic and then braking isn't going to end well.

Everyone needs to remember that every time there's a major accident, even when there's luckily no physical injuries, the mental and emotional scarring can last a lifetime.
I hope all of these people are okay.
yeah, the heartlessness some folks in the comments section have is incredibly depressing. even witnessing something like that in person is something that sticks with you for life. it's easy to look at it on a screen and go "haha, why are these people freaking out so much?" but when it happens IRL it's *horrifying.*
Not all of them.. In most of these, half the people involved are idiots and society is better off if they never get behind the wheel again.
Best episode ever! All crashes! Wonderful viewing by all at my house tonight. Xx

Better to be safe than sorry, right?
Reflection of our society ..the lack of stopping to check if persons are hurt is the most disturbing thing
10:54 l like how the driver does not stop after the car left the road and rolled. 12:28 and truck that damages at least two vehicles just leaves the scene.

10:18 does anyone know what Clarkson was talking about or what show/podcast he was on?
18:47 Take a bow mate great pit manoeuvre textbook on the van 😂
Probably should have just moved into the left lane instead of driving with an ego. They could have avoided the whole accident. I agree the van should not have undertaken, that's far more dangerous. But, if you're in the RH lane and the car behind is going faster, move over. Main rule of the road is keep left unless overtaking.
@@weetbix08 💯 but that dude f’ed round and found out
@@weetbix08 The driver _was_ overtaking.
"if a person is coming up behind that is going faster, it is the law for you to move into the left lane"
Uh, gonna need a source on that one chief because the rules are you use the right hand lane when overtaking and the ute was overtaking. It had recently overtaken the red car and was in the process of overtaking the Mitsubishi. Never heard of a law that states you have to vacate the right hand lane _while using it for its intended purpose_ just because someone else wants to go faster.
"because you think you're going fast enough"
Never made that argument. My point is the cam driver was overtaking. Which is the purpose for the right hand lane. The van is the one who broke the law and caused an accident. All becasue he couldnt muster up a little bit of patience. What is that if not ego?
So many of these appear on the face of it to be avoidable. People need to drive defensively, with their eyes open and on the road and always assuming that other drivers are idiots. Because chances are they will be!
The amount of these that were easily avoidable if they just paid attention???
Yes it isn't their fault but damn a little attention would help avoid these.
