I give away the journals I make...most of the time to people who are not in the junk journaling community. So I have changed how I present them...not as junk journals, but as interactive journals. I never tell the receiver that the pages are distressed, I tell them they are hand dyed to age them! These terms are much closer to the evolution of our art form. Love what you do! Grunge is my favorite! Thanks.

I started more on the mixed media art journaling side almost a year ago, but a good friend made me a junk journal and it's a different exploration of creativity - playing with different textures and background papers is making me stretch and think more.
I think my style preference is somewhere in between your "clean" journal and your "grungy" journal - and watching you work through the two styles has helped me figure out which things I like and would like to try when I make my first junk journal. And I love your new printables, so many possibilities!

My dearest luise. I just sent you an email asking if you could do a series on how to make the base pages of a junk journal more interesting and here you are, doing exactly that. I always admire the way your pages look even before you start putting your art in. With ink and splatters and all sort of techniques. Mine are too plain and then anything i put on the page doesn’t look as interesting cause the area around is too boring. Very excited for this series. I love your work and your kindness, sense of humor and generosity when you share your talent and artistry with us. Valentine hugs from Connecticut USA

My mum calls her journal Junq Journal because she uses everything, she will use junk but makes it look better with digital papers, it should be whatever u want it to be i have one journal that i made and i use it to make ephemera out of junk so eg i will take a packaging box and make it into a specimen frame or a leaflet and make it into a tuck spot, so just because u haven’t used junk to make your journal shouldnt mean it isn’t one it’s whatever u want to call it it’s yours ❤❤❤ loving this series ❤❤

Gosh!! Thank you sooo much Luise, for explaining the different effects that a make-up brush and a finger dauber can achieve. I'm still a 'newbie' in the Junk Journal world, so I am only slowly building up my tools - and having watched a lot of folk describing the circular motion that you are supposed to use with, for example, stencils - I was convinced that I was doing something wrong. Now I know that I just using one tool in the 'wrong' way. Not that anything is absolutely wrong - but understanding our tools and materials helps us to 'choose' what to use, and when. 💚🧡🤎

I like using the photo ink where it looks natural, like on some photographs. 😉 This is a fascinating tutorial I will follow. I do think some grunge journals are nice, but not if they scream “dirty.” Also, when they are cohesive, any journal can be beautiful. Ty for this series! 💕💕

I have most of my colors but I accidentally ordered brush corduroy and lost shadow in distress ink pad instead of distressed oxide? Will these still work?

Lost shadow will definitely work! I've tried that out. Brushed corduroy should work as well, I don't have the ink pad but tried it with the spray, that works fine!
