It seems Tom Lehrer enthusiasts pop up in the most unexpected places. But after all, he was a good pianist and an excellent satirist. No wonder musicians like him.
Why he "was"? As I saw not long ago he is still alive... He might be very old, but, as I know, he's still alive.
@@ВиталийБойков-в3т Well, he doesn't really play publically anymore, so using the present perfect may not be appropriate here.
@@Ennio444 I see. Of course. For now he's over 90. I believe it's very hard to play public now. ))) The age, you now.
"He plays the piano passably." "He seldom has a point other than the obvious." Negative reviews from critics and Lehrer himself created even more Tom Lehrer fans through reverse psychology.
Bravo, bravo! A very sensitive treatment of a heartwarming family classic.
As a Lehrer fan of at least 50 years, I love this performance. I heard my first Lehrer song , Lobachevsky, on the radio in a one room cabin under the northern lights in the wilderness outside of Fairbanks, Alaska, at minus 55 degrees F, and have listened to his music ever since. I am glad that other artists are keeping his music alive.
Loba was his name oy!
Tom was incredibly dry and she is incredibly expressive. Both are great.
Agreed. Would’ve been cool the see Lehrer perform opera though.
I love how expressive the piano is.
A great rendition of a classic Tom Lehrer song. Brava!
Oh God I laughed so Hard!
What a beautiful voice she has!
Thank you. Amazing!!!
Obviously a professional singer, PROBABLY from Opera!
Fabulous!
If I ever have kids, this is what I’ll sing to them when they go to sleep to teach them don’t drink and drive. There’s no connection. I just like this song.
Oh, she "Weighted" her brother down with stones! I was so confused when Tom Lehrer said she "wetted" her brother down with stones.
I wrote a penultimate verse for this song... For after she was arrested...
'One more thing before I go... Ricketty ticketty tin... Just one more thing before I go, it's something that you aught to know... The Judge was her Lover and he let her go... and a machete she used upon him, on him... His ending was suitably grim' 😊
Clever. My only question is: because penultimate means second to last, what comes after this?
@@bruceboettcher9977 i think "my tragic tale i won't prolong... begin"
I just love it! I wanted to go into a big explanation as to why, but thinking about it, it's unnecessary. Just great.
excellent performance!! the singing and the imaginative accompaniment!
Marvelous!
There seems to be a problem with youtube. 217 likes? There must be at least two zeros missing. This is brilliant!
When she invited the neighbors in (bors in):
Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Irish stew.
Irish stew who?
Irish stew in the name of the law!
Happy 96th birthday, Tom Lehrer.
Loves this.❤
Such a fun cover!
wow she's a very entertaining expressive girl , great voice :)
Great job!!
This is wonderful!
This is Fabulous. Thank you!
Amazing. Thanks!!!!
I love you
A fine performance with a wonderful piano accompaniment, very much it the spirit of Lehrer, but far more than a mere transcription. Is it the pianist's own arrangement?
I suspect so. It’s not any of the arrangements released under “Lehrer”.
Most likely. It's not exactly a hard song to play.
Is dying of laughter accepted
And lying she knew was a sin... !Brilliant !
"We had to make do with gin." Too bad during the Potato Famine, the Irish, surrounded by ocean, couldn't make do with fish.
The irish were mostly farmers, not fishers.
As much as admire Tom's dry, matter-of-fact performance, I can't say this is much worse. The expressiveness freaks me out a bit, but otherwise it is rather nice.
Way better than Tom himself, you are so enthusiastic 💚
gin ? twins
wickedly conservative show
This is terrible compared to when tom sings it himself. She tries to hard to add to much b.s into it.
I disagree, this is JUST one singer's interpretation of another artist's work. You are, however, entitled to your opinion, negative or otherwise, Peace, I'm out!
Her expressions and gestures IMO add to the performance. She portrays how much of a psycho or sociopath the person who committed the ballad crimes is. It's her interpretation of how to perform it. I think it's excellent. Tom Lehrer doesn't care as he's recently released all of musical works into the public domain. He probably is flattered by this rendition.
