Today we are back with another early summer walleye fishing video. In this video we are getting away from live bait and showing an awesome artificial alternative that works well this time of year. The ned rig has slowly been gaining traction in the walleye world and I figured it was time I shot a video on it. Thanks for watching!

Had a killer day on Lake Erie drifting spinners. Thanks for putting out quality walleye content for us.
I started with a weedless ned rig because of the amount of gnarly timber in the river I fish. Have since started using a screwlock shakey head with all variety of plastics. Works amazing for heavy snag infested waters. I can usually fish all day without a lost lure . Tight Lines Guys, keep up the good work.

Hey Tom - I watched this video and the related one on the Walleye Now app and then 4 hours later caught a chunky 24” walleye on a Ned rig on a Hayward area lake. Thanks for the great information as always. Keep the great content coming.

I know you have to go through a lot of gear from snag ups . Cover some of that sometime so it's a little more real please .
Oh I think these successful walleye guys like Tom, Siemens, Schick ect. spend alot of time cruising around lakes and locating them and fishing spots where they dont bite. Tom has mentioned that before in some of his videos, we just see the polished finished product which we all love. I imagine alot of work goes into producing good fishing content.
Tom, you are the ace walleye TH-camr. I consider myself to be a pretty good eye-guy, but think you’d have a pretty good chance at beating me on my home lake.

On Lac suel I’ve been trying to catch small mouth up shallow walleye have been crushing neds and sankos in 3/6’ of water so fun and their big mommas too

I have a challenge for you ted, go walleye fishing without using any side-imaging/panoptics anything that isn't a Wayfinder so you can at least find a spot.

@@tuiflies5869 - I dont think all ned rig plastics float. Zman's do but others don't.
Ahh that’s prob why. I’ve only used Z-Man’s plastics for Ned rigging.
The Ned rig reminds me of one of the bass guys in the mid 80’s came out with a “ do nothing “ rig that was a fad thing.
I use this method more than all others for walleye. Zman makes better options.

Two weeks ago, in a two hour, bank-bound session , i caught LMB. SMB. WAL, BGL, CRA, RCK, CHN, NPK, CRP, and even a bullhead on a 'shortie' (2" trimmed) Ned.
Not sure i didn't leave a species out there... oh yeah, better add pumpkinseed to that list.
At my first exposure to this lure, i too thought it was dumb. Today, i know this: one has to be an idiot, NOT to employ it.
Can't be fished wrong. It's almost live bait, except it comes GURANTEED pre-dead (no worries).
I have another Elaztech presentation that so help me. slays hyper-shallow spawning WAL, actually. It's too effective to reveal, however. Not kidding. WAL reproduction is iffy. and so it matters!
But i WILL share one trick: heat up a ten penny nail over a candle's flame. Put your Ned TRD in a tube (a fat straw will work well).
Push the hot nail right up the worm's rear. You can go in as much as to within 1/4" of the head, provided you use superglue to bond the bait to the jighead. Doing so actual preserves the bait.
Next, squeeze the TRD, place the nozzle of a gel scent applicator to the 'butt", and as you give the bottle a squeeze, just UNsqueeze the lure. Think slitping a spaghetti noodle here.
In use. the 'sauce' eeks out S L O W L Y. Add whatev flavor suits your fancy.
Kills.
Now, if this sounds cocky. know this.
i'm kind'a a recent convert to WAL, with PLENTY yet to learn. ok?
But know that i innovate on EVERYthing. (akthough these changes DON'T often end up conferring any net benefit, and may even reduce the effectiveness if a conventional 'look'.
Still, nothing ventured... eh?

@@jjmcg9688 there's a ton of great options out there depending what the fish are feeding on. My favorite all-around is the Z-Man Big TRD (green pumpkin goby).
