Stayed at Butlins Barry Island around 1985/86 on a school residential I was 12 always remember seeing the train from our chalet
You would have been staying on the north side of the camp then. It’s great you remember your visit.
Wow Mr D. they are beautiful, 1965 I was 1 year old lol, but remember Butlins from when I was about 6 or 7 years old, keep up the good work, love best wishes to you and the family, stay safe, don't get lost or squashed.
Ah it really broke my heart when the camp went..shattered dreams of working there one day..😏 I have the 1966 badge too..lucky you 🥰👌🏽😍 really enjoyed the trip down memory lane .
I remember when oakwood first opened back in 1996 and I did visit Barry island butlins just before it shut down back in 1998.
It shut down in 1996, You visited the resort on the last year.
Remember going on the chair lift to bultlins back then used to sway in the wind going across 👀👀

My partner lives in Barry so I'm down the Island all the time, not old enough to remember the Butlins because I was 3 when it closed down but really interesting to see where everything was in comparison to today
I went in 1982 to Barry island I was 14 so sad it’s gone
An amazing vlog. Butlins is a major part of the Island's rich history. I get quite sentimental about it myself too. The pin badges are lush. I have some from Pwllheli also. Many local lads got Saturday jobs helping guests with luggage on changeover day. The experience was fabulous.
I’m sure there was a cinema inside the boulevard. We watched Diamonds are forever a few times. I also got lost a few times on the camp, my name was always being called across the tannoy. Had some great times there.
Those pin badges are awesome. Great gift and really nice bit of history.
I've been down the same car park this morning filming and didn't realise that was the main boulevard still in place.

1988 my first lads holiday was there i drove all the way from wigan with my 3 mates we are 52 now and still reminisce about it getting drunk in pig and whistle first night and my mate throwing up in the pool on our way back to the room 317 at 2 am then getting woken up by the maids banging and shouting i remember getting off with one called alison. ahhh to be young again good times where had in barry i remember swimming in the sea and getting sucked out into the waves with my mates and we spent 10 min trying to swim back to shore and not getting any closer until my foot touched the floor and it was only 2 1/2 foot deep where we was lol

My family is from Stafford in the Midlands (I now live in Cardiff and come to Barry regularly!) My Nan told me recently my Grandad used to come to Barry Island as a young man (so would’ve been round the 1950’s) and he used to be on some kind of Board, I’m not sure what. But she found a load of pin badges of his recently. I could never ever give them away I’m sorry, too much sentimental attachment but can defo send pictures of them :)

Love it. But a few comments - tell me if I'm wrong, but the badges were given out to holidaymakers (except 1965, given out when the site was being built to construction workers, Butlins opening in 1966) and the 1966 and 1967 badges were the only 2 years they were issued for Barry) to prove they were entitled to be on site? Still a very good piece of history, on a site I always visit when I can.

@@TheDudgiesNo worries. The majority was quite right. The Boulevard, rows of shops and arcades, the Pig and Whistle.... You may just look out of your windows one day and see me walking around that area, trying to place things and that is exactly what your video does, so many thanks for that 👍🙂
