      @Narfignugan ปีที่แล้ว +13

      exactly lmao. dying inside watching him toss so many items he could have at least sold or donated. "these are brand new" [immediately cuts to throwing them all away and breaking them] they're from as early as the fifties. yes, they aren't worth much, selling for about $5 - $12 each, but he had four boxes of them. all of them, immediately trashed without so much as a google search (T - T )

  • @RandyL86
    @RandyL86 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Feels like he could’ve had a yard sale first, have people just come into the garage and take what they want. That probably would’ve saved him several hours of cleaning it out.

    Everyone is mentioning the vice but I saw those chains and thought that was a waste to toss. This looks like a complete tear down. The amount of reframing and structural issues that will need to be addressed to get it to pass code seems more effort than simply starting over. You are probably going to need a structural engineer involved anyway so I would take it back to the slab and build what you wanted.

    The worst job in the world is cleaning up someone else’s trash? You go dude!

  • @JeezusChrist
    @JeezusChrist ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For structural repairs, don't fret. watch a couple YT videos of framing. you'll need a few bottle jacks and timber, lift whatever is sitting on the wall about 1/2 in to 1in high, (with some doubled up 2x4 going horizontally for support) and then you can begin tearing out the old and install the new. if possible, the best way to frame a wall and check to make sure it's square, is to build the wall on the ground, "in place" and then raise it up. slip it under the load, and drop the load onto your new walls. You got this.

    • @JeezusChrist
      @JeezusChrist ปีที่แล้ว

      if youre considering putting on a new roof, that would be the optimal time to fix load bearing walls. strip the roof, remove damaged sheeting, then fix load bearing walls, once the walls are done, you can add extra roof rafters where it's needed, replace the damaged sheeting that you previously pulled, and once the framing is secure, then put up you new roof. a 2 or 3 man roofing crew can typically replace an entire roof in 1 day. 2 days if it's a big job. If you are going solo and weather might be a concern, spend the $ to get large tarps and cover/button cap the tarps on the edges while you work.

      no recycling, just dump it in a landfill. that's so crazy. I remember growing up in the early 90's in Sweden and going to a recycling center with all of our garbage from like tearing out an old room or just cleaning up in the yard. It's crazy to me that the still have landfills in the US.

      It gets sorted mechanically in most places because it's taken to a transfer station not actually a landfill.

    • @iamkid_a
      @iamkid_a ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately we really don't have many great options here - recycling centers only take certain types of metal and electronics so a lottttt of stuff just goes in a landfill. It's honestly not a personal problem for people, the US is just so large and states and counties do their own thing individually with trash. Heck, a lot of towns only have private companies running trash pickup and facilities. Calling Americans "annoying" for not doing this is silly - I think Americans would do it if we had any kind of program that was easy to understand and unified! Some people here mention that they do xyz in America, that's great but it might not be an option for everyone else. America is HUGE!

    • @seanhoutx
      @seanhoutx ปีที่แล้ว

    This garage looks like my 86 yo dads garage. Full of many years of stuff. If he were doing the demo in this garage he would keep each piece of useable wood. Among lots of that other stuff you threw out. 😂 Which explains why there’s 3 old microwaves, two toasters among other stuff in his garage. 😉 He is slowly going through his stuff. It’s hard for him to let go. He’s still very hardworking even at 86. I go over and help where I can. But it’s also hard for people his age to accept help. Remember the folks that lived in your house didn’t mean for the upkeep to get away from them. It just did. This is a little wake up call to us all to clear away our extra stuff so someday our kids don’t have to.
