    I was close to homelessness when hired. I worked every overtime position I could get. This includes funeral escorts, hospital watch, and floors. There were times I slept and ate at the jail. In 5 years, I saved enough to buy a 5-bedroom home.

      Say no, don’t be to friendly, if they say something out of pocket check them, if they flash you with their d*** write them up, don’t get into drama, don’t sleep with staff, don’t be lazy. U gotta realize. Those dudes are locked up for a reason, be fair yet don’t let them run over u

    Do veterans get like a boost in pay or anything?

    • @Natedog97

      And do u prefer day or night shift

    • @TheGhettoBodybuilder

      you get preference in the hiring process often ive heard, & i hear some vets say they bought back their military time working in the feds. night shift ive been on 6 years now, its cool but i wanna eventually go to day shift so i can get proper rest every night

  • @rooseveltcayard3365

    Can you do college part-time and work in the prison at the same time? Is it doable?

    • @TheGhettoBodybuilder

      its possible, dont expect them to fully accommodate you so you can attend college on campus full time. most people do online classes while at the prison. i was in my senior year of college when i started working county jail. stayed on night shift, went on campus during the day for my classes

    • @rooseveltcayard3365

    • @TheGhettoBodybuilder

      @rooseveltcayard3365 online classes probably your best bet. i aint even lie to you, i done seen nurses or c/o’s at my prison, get they master degree sitting right there on the unit with the inmates doing they school work on the computer in the office

    What do you do to past time during your 8hour shift as a rookie

    • @TheGhettoBodybuilder

      best advice is to stay up and active on the unit. learning the job, getting to know the inmates and who’s who on your unit, doing cell searches, letting the inmates know what you expect when you working the unit & developing that working relationship with them

  • @restockshock2710

    how many hours do you work bro? you think I can make 6 figures if I put in 80hrs per week? how many hours do I gotta work to make 6 figures? I get paid $22 an hour bro and the biweekly is set to $1760 on my appointment rate) So I'm tryna really put in my grind to make that paper. I got a goal to get my first house and these houses out here in FL are 350-400k+ on the low end in places like orlando like 500k is the average bro. Any advice appreciated tryna make a grind out there as a Rookie.

    • @TheGhettoBodybuilder

      you should be able to hit 100k for sure if you grinding, my base salary is 73k i clocked $158k with OT last year

    • @mistersadaimusic

      Putting in 80 hours will burn you out and destroy your body, but yeah you can clear 100k if you do that.
      Take
      hourly*40*52 = A
      hourly*1.5*40*52 = B
      A + B = rough idea of what your base pay and every day OT will do before differentials, Sunday, and holiday pay.

      @@mistersadaimusic bro I'm all about my paper burnout ain't in my language fam I've done 72hr weeks consistently before back when i worked as a cna in 2019 and this was pre-pandemic btw when we got paid pennies and I drove out 1hr to work everyday) if anything I rather deal with 80hr weeks in a prison just cause I'll actually get paid for my time put in general I understand most people can't handle that life and I get it they got family or other things to deal with but I'm desperate to make a positive change in my life so it's lightwork stressing over getting jumped or w/e in prison by inmates I've gotten slapped or hit without pay before and been jumped back when I was a kid so really it ain't scary if you dealt with it before or you know god got your back gotta be positive in this job bro just cause alot of people be negative complaining about every little thing in corrections from what i hear most will never understand it's definitely not for everyone but if you've been broke like me struggling to make ends meet working hard is the only way to get it for me. so Ima do what I gotta do so I can payoff my car, get a house, and save up for my and my familys future. This job definitely got alot of cons but the positives keep me pursuing a career in it! Especially if I can make 100k a year cause most hard working jobs ain't raking in that paper like that unfortunately where I'm currently at i'm limited to 56k per year but no worry once i'm done with my contract of 2yrs I'ma bounce to the feds and get a real paycheck
