    Key points:
    - Start with a low buy/no buy for a specific amount of time (eg. September 1st to Decembder 31st).
    - It will be challenging in the beginning but stick with it! Remember, you are replacing an old habit with a new one.
    - Ask yourself and be VERY honest: What are your distractions? Is shopping a vice and/or a distraction to escape a truth you've been avoiding?
    - Too much of one thing is not good for the soul.
    - Spend or save your money for experiences vs physical objects.
    - Take interest in every aspect of your life; are you eating healthy? Have you seen your loved one recently? Did you call up that old friend you've been promising you would? Do you walk at least 30 mins per day? What books have you read this year?
    - Seek Balance. :)

    I love your untried nail polish series especially. It inspired me to do the same. I don’t always need new polishes. It’s great to rediscover old favorites and save some money.

      I am so happy you enjoyed that series on my channel and that it inspired you to do the same. It takes ages to finish a bottle of nail polish so it's good to enjoy what we already own and to show gratitude for the things we have in our lives. I find more happiness when I appreciate what i own versus buying new now. Thank you so much for watching Tracy.

    I love this video so much and I identify with it so much. When your material things start taking over your physical space, it really takes a toll on your mind. I love the idea of balance, using what u have and appreciating it.
    I felt so guilty and embarrassed when I realized how much stuff I had bought throughout the years and overwhelmed about the fact that I could not use up everything in one lifetime .
    Thank u for sharing! I admire you so much! You are a sense of calm and perspective in the crazy youtube/ consumer world.

      And I admire you! It takes great courage to face our daily habits and to seek a change + balance. I am so happy you enjoyed this video and related to it. I hope by sending these messages out into the ether it will help bring perspective to others as well. Thank you so much for watching my friend!

    Zenorah, thank you so much for sharing your no-buy journey. I sincerely appreciate that you acknowledge that it's important to dig deeper into what motivates us to buy/accumulate/consume what we do. Kudos to you for sticking with it - I know how challenging
    self-reflection can be! I hope that you will continue to share this type of content - it's so helpful and greatly appreciated.

    • @ZENnetwork
      @ZENnetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Self reflection is key. At this age I truly understand how important it is to understand yourself. At the end of the day only you know what is important to you. And I will continue with these videos because I hope it sheds insight into consumerism and how objects/physical things will not lead to happiness. Thank you so much for watching Holly!

    You've really made me think about the fact that I need to consume the content I watch/read with more thoughtfulness instead of passiveness. I am on an every other month no-buy schedule for nail polish (the only thing I tend to buy voraciously) and I know that youtubers, bloggers, and instagrammers definitely make me want to buy stuff. However, I don't want to give up engaging with their content because I still appreciate their content and don't want to just completely drop out of the social interactions I have in the nail community. I think I just need to mentally prepare myself for the temptations and watch/read with more intentionality; for example, I'm thinking that if the content relates to a new release, I can prepare myself to think of similar things in my collection. Sorry, this was so rambling! Thanks for getting this train of thought started xx

      shortnailswatcher i have been trying to do the same! Totally understand! Love watching TH-cam videos, reviews, swatches and wear tests. Something about it is so satisfying. I do try to watch with intention and shop my stash before I run out and buy any of it :)

    • @nothingisreal27
      @nothingisreal27 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yelenarivera2422 yes, especially with nail polish I find it so calming to watch someone else paint their nails! I used to look at all the new seasonal releases and try to come up with a color palette from my own stash that seemed in harmony with them. Might need to start doing it again!

    • @ZENnetwork
      @ZENnetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to really think about what brings you the most joy, is it the interactions with the nail community? Buying new nail polish etc? You can still be supportive, interact but not purchase new things monthly. In fact I think your attention and kind heart in wanting to maintain those friendships speaks to your sweet personality. Influence though is sadly a reality and I've learned that the hard way so in doing these videos I hope to send the message that it's better to enjoy every avenue of your life not just one thing. Ask yourself when you entire someone's home, what would you notice right away? For me, I am most inspired by people who seem to very balanced and lived so many elements of life. They're not obsessed with one physical thing but in all that life has to offer.
      Whenever you see new releases, take a look at your current collection and wear what you have that is similar. Tastes change all the time and you might surprise yourself if you are still interested in that colour, texture etc. Hope that helps, thank you so much for watching.

    I’ve been on this journey with you from the start and I totally agree that the process is about far more than make up, or whatever the compulsion is. Like you, I found I actually like cream nail polish on myself, despite loving sparkly polishes. I can now look at things and admire them, but not feel compelled to buy them and it’s a wonderful feeling. I like the feeling of letting things go too and the space being reclaimed. Thank you and I’m looking forward to seeing where you take your channel 💖

    I am glad that you have been successful in your journey. I can’t say that I have been, but I have become better. Not too long ago, I went to a mall with a friend and her mother. I usually avoid them like the plague, but her mom was looking for something. We walked through the whole place and I felt no compulsion to buy anything. A year ago, I couldn’t have said that. And, I have come to realize that things mean nothing without purpose. I think I was avoiding the fact that I needed to make a home for myself but wasn’t sure how. I have lived in my place for 9 years but I’ve never really made it my own. My focus now is to make a place that I really want to be in. My life was in a constant state of chaos for quite some time and while I was busy trying to make my outside look good (meaning my face), I was neglecting my inside and my body, and wasn’t concerned with the state of my dwelling. Now, I am in the process of donating many of my things to charity and making sure that anything I buy is useful and necessary. It’s slow going, but I feel very good about it. Your optimism is catching. Appreciate the push. Thank you.

    You are such an inspiration! I started a “low buy” January of this year. It’s going so well! I have been able to buy what I truly want without feeling guilty or going overboard. And it’s made me so selective that I have developed a new appreciation for finding my own style. I feel more intentional and like you said, more in control. I will carry this low buy into other categories besides nail polish soon. I know I can do it because this year I have kicked butt! ☺️

    I was inspired by your nail polish capsule videos. Eight for a season was too hard for me, so I pick six each month. I feel like I enjoy my polish more now because I am getting to all of them in the year and I actually finished one bottle.

      @ZENnetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on finishing up a bottle! That's a big accomplishment indeed! And I am so happy you were inspired by my nail polish capsule collections! This Fall season I will be choosing 6 which I think is a good number for me and moving forward that's probably the size I'll keep. Doesn't it feel amazing to go through what you already own? I know I look at some of my older polishes and I get excited to wear them again. Thank you so much for watching Danielle.

    I always love your videos! I'm a work in progress with low buys on polish, which is the one item I loved to indulge in. I'm more selective these days. In checking my collection, I regret buying dupes, but am not going that route anymore. If I can get to a no buy point, that would be great. You said so many truths in this video; thanks for giving us cause to think of why we do the things we do. Have a great weekend!

    • @ZENnetwork
      @ZENnetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took me years to come to this point so be patient with your journey. I realized there was a reason why I was distracting myself with nail polish. I love to paint my nails but one day I was walking pass a nail salon and I realized i had more nail polish in my personal collection than this nail salon. That was an eye opener! Low buys are a great starting point but if you can do a no buy for a month that's even better! Try doing it for an entire season, that's the real test, once you make it through 1 season - the rest of the year is very easy. That's why I started my seasonal nail polish capsule collections, it saves time etc but most importantly I'm focused on using what i have that's just as good as the latest collection. Thank you so much for watching cami.

    There’s no need to feel guilty if someone buys something after watching a video of yours - it’s up to those watching to buy judiciously. I’ve been trying a no-buy this year. It’s been hard and I’ve not been able to stick to it but I keep trying!! It’s certainly making me think more rather than impulsive buying 😃

    • @ZENnetwork
      @ZENnetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the guilt stems mostly from not being self aware of my words. Saying things like, "you need this" when at the end of the day it was really a 'want'. And not being aware of how strong influence is and can be in this online world. And I pride myself on being a good friend, so I wouldn't want a friend in my life telling me I needed to try this and that etc. So taking a step back and realizing that by looking at what I enjoy it might also influence others to buy things they don't need. I think of everyone who's subscribed to me as friends, so I want to be a good friend to all of you as well. And it starts by taking accountability I think by stopping and having that consumerism conversation. I love life and I love enjoying things but all in balance. And that's what was missing I think all these years on my Channel. Balance. Thank you so much for watching!

    I love the capsule nail polish idea. It make the decision time less when I know I have only few polishes to pick from. I have been using that since June after I watched your video.
    But since I only need to re-do my nails after 5-6 days, it takes me a while to go through the colors twice (especially when using the Zoya polishes which lasts up to 8 days for me). How often do you re-do your nail color?

    My plan is to start Oct-Dec the last quarter of the year where all the temptations of the Sephora sale etc come in lol. But I really need to do this for other goals happening in my life.
    And the same on using up products. I started that now and yes it’s a real eye opener to see how long it takes and makes you think twice what to add again.
    I will allow myself an allowance around my birthday March of next year to purchase something new but within a set budget or wait until the Sephora sale in April.
    I started with perfume this year. That was a problem too especially since I like luxury niche ones. 🤦🏽‍♀️I only allowed myself to add 1 new one for my birthday and another for Christmas but I had to finish up a lot in my collection. My perfume collection is down to about 8 now from 20 at the end of 2018. Took me sooooo long to get there. But with no purchasing any new ones, it became very possible. My goal is to keep it at max of 10 total since i wear different ones per season with a 1 out before 1 in rule.
    Now it’s time to do the same with makeup/clothing.

    • @ZENnetwork
      @ZENnetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think birthday purchases are a great way to treat yourself once a year within a budget as you stated. And perfumes as you will see later one this year on my channel is a great love of mine as well but I do try to control it and I haven't purchased a new perfume in years. And I think 10 is a good number for a perfume wardrobe. And using up makeup, all cosmetics in general takes such a long time - I'm very happy that my content has inspired you and others to take a closer look at what you already own vs buying. I hope my message continues to spread rather than the consumerism train. Thank you so much for watching!

    i like your capsule collections and I like your untried series. With project pans, I like the way the #teamprojectpan works, where you swap out every quarter, allows you to enjoy and use up some products. I happily use up 1/2 dozen nail polishes per year, but i do like rotating polishes in and out each season and seeing what i can use up and enjoying the other colours. Makeup, I panned one palette and never again, i prefer to rotate them and use up other products such as lip and face products. Its about trial and error and working out what works for you. I've enjoyed these reduce consumption videos that several content makers are doing.

    • @ZENnetwork
      @ZENnetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am so happy you've enjoyed my capsule collections and untried series - it really does differ for everyone but the best outcome is finding what works best for you. And I don't think I'll attempt another pan that palette for the exact same reasons you've mentioned, although I did love the challenge - I learned A LOT about my taste in makeup and my true usage of products. And I'm glad other youtubers are making videos like this as well, it's important to spread realistic messages rather than over consumption. Thank you so much for watching!

    I went on a no buy for over a year because we had financial issues. I’m still on a low buy except for my birthday I let myself have fun. I much rather spend money on a fun experience for my family or a nice meal than spend a ton on make up and nail polish.

    • @ZENnetwork

      It's always healthy to be on a budget I think. Maybe I should do financial videos in the future? I think it's vital to have financial balance in one's life no matter the situation. I'm so sorry that a financial issue prompted your no buy, but the triumph of discipline out of it is one of the strongest character traits I believe we can possess in today's world, so in that respect I think you've gained insight in a way most people haven't and you possess an upper hand in knowing situations and over coming them no matter the future.
