    *THANK YOU* for saying what you get in each trim. It's soooo annoying when reviewers only tell you what you get in the touring trim when 5% of buyers buy that trim

    The fake gears only slow it down. A normally programmed CVT could hold it at peak power. Too bad the obsession with gear shifting sound won the battle versus actual performance.

    I had a 2019 Ford Escape stolen from my driveway 2 week’s ago. My Stepdad Loved Subaru’s. After looking over all the Suv’s available from different Manufacturers, my Wife has basically settled on this 2021Forester, literally, the same trim, color, extra’s, etc. I test drove it today. I loved everything about it but, it’s a bit sluggish on Highway entry. You mentioned Sport Mode for that, when I got back and told the Salesman, he mentioned Sport Mode for that, as well. My Escape got 18mpg typically, 33mpg would be great. Anyway, I test drove it. The ride was comfortable, the assistive cruise control was a little weird at first. I pushed the cruise and the car took a slight veer to the right. Startled, I counter reacted, then it did it again, I slowly let off the grip to the steering wheel. It found the right lane paint marker, and positioned itself dead center in the lane. All was good afterwards. I think I’ll buy one, it felt and sounded like a good quality vehicle, with many extras that no other manufacturers offer at this price point. Loved it.

      I personally get 28 mpg on my 2020 Touring Forester. Sport mode really helps getting on the freeway. Then I switch back to Intelligent mode.

      Sorry to hear about your vehicle getting stolen, that stinks. I had a 2014 Subaru Forester and I absolutely loved it as well. One winter we got roughly 7 inches overnight and I backed out of my driveway like a champion, no problems at all in the snow! The only negative I would give it and maybe they have improved this, but I was having to add a quart of oil in between oil changes and that didn’t seem right to me for a new vehicle. I asked the service dept about this and they acted like it was normal for a CVT. The salesman said you should never have to add oil in between oil changes. Anyway, I was worried I would eventually have issues with my engine so I sold it and bought a Nissan Rogue which was a CVT and drove it for 72,000 miles, never having to add oil in between oil changes. Hopefully, the new models are different as I really wouldn’t mind to own another Forester as it was really fun to drive! Congratulations on your new vehicle!

    It's way underpowered, it needs easy 20+ hp. 182 hp just doesn't cut it. It doesn't even need to have a turbo engine, 4 cylinder or V6, just more power. Even though the turbo, the same 260 hp engine that outback xt and legacy xt have would be nice.
    Also It needs ventilated seats.
    They need to get on with the program, every other small crossover in the same segment has more power and ventilated seats, at least you get one trim level with those options.
    19" wheels wouldn't hurt either, forester has a big body, those 18" wheels look just too small.
    If it would have all that than i would probably be ok with cvt

    Got the 2017 2.0 XT turbo and love the extra power, when needed. Was thinking about getting a newer model (more comfortable driver's seat and improved Infotainment system), but the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine is a deal-breaker for me. Going from 255hp to 182 is a...28.6% loss (for a 5% impovement in the other metrics). Not willing to make that switch at this point. Now, if they put the 2.4L Turbo in it, it's game-on!

Then I went and saw this Forester Premium. To me it was the Kia or the Subaru. The Kia was cheaper. The Subaru just destroyed the Kia for 3,000 bucks more and well worth it. Yep I bought the Forester. Why moon roof..Excellent sound system(not the Harmon Kardon .

      Between you and GP, I think I might go for it. I'm driving a 19 yo Camry V6 XLE which I love, but it's starting to nickel and dime me on repairs. I was set on a hybrid - the 2021 Venza or CRV - but I'm kinda likin the Forester now. Also really like the Mazda CX-5, but I like the un-pretentiousness of the Subaru. Thanks for your detailed comments.

    • @fermata5694
      @fermata5694 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @CountryStranger Hey thanks for the heads (gasket) up. Sorry, coffee hasn't hit my brain yet. I'd heard of the problem but thanks for reminding me. A quick google search indicates that as of 2014, Subaru started using different head gaskets in the affected models, including the Forester. My new car decision is on-hold because prices are so high due to lack of supply. Of course, the value of my mint condition Camry has also increased, so it's a toss up I guess. I just drove my trusty Camry 1K freeway miles over the weekend and got 28mpg. That's pretty typical and good for the V6. Around town I get maybe 19mpg. By the way, my repairs have included both the AC compressor and condenser, two years apart, an air-fuel sensor and my mechanic is watching a power steering hose minor leek, which they've been watching for years and hasn't gotten any worse. I expect I'll never own another car of this quality. Given that I keep cars forever, I may not even have more than 1 or 2 in my lifetime anyway.

    • @fermata5694
      @fermata5694 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @CountryStranger I googled "subaru head gasket" and found several articles that claim Subaru fixed the problem a few years ago. To you other points about car electronics and gadgets, I almost completely agree, especially about lane departure. I was test driving a CX-5 a couple of years ago and had a near miss when the sales person told me to try it out at 70mph. I do however like the blind-spot monitoring and a few others, but agree that car makers should focus on mechanical reliability and comfort and also crash test safety. Great review Gold Pony! To your comment about those paddle shifters... I have them in my 2019 Crosstrek and I use them all the time on the highway. They are excellent in the shifting experience and although not real manual gears, it is pretty convincing in upshifting and downshifting. Using them in the city is a pain, since having to shift a manual transmission in stop-and-go traffic sucks. The only plus here in city shifting is that there's no clutch to engage. In my mind, the shifters shine on the highway and help to improve fuel economy (if you like saving gas) and can also help those folks who like a better driving experience overall. Keep up the detailed reviews and thanks for sharing!

With the lane watch or whatever is called off, it will automatically turn the steering wheel if you’re drifting by out of a lane. I was entering the opposite side of the road to give 2 cyclists their space, it actually tried to drive me back into the lane, potentially killing the cyclists. We are leasing the vehicle, my wife likes it, but also complains about the safety features. Everything else though is real nice. Spacious interior, nice radio (does not go as loud as I would like but whatever). It warms up within 3-5 minutes in winter as well by starting and maintains a high rpm. If I was Suburu (I know they are ultra conservative & hardly change), but on the Forester for what you pay at least have the cubie storage above the glove box like the Outback. On the SPORT I'd also change out the Steering Wheel to be Orange Leather to match the orange stitching & Air Vents, etc., along with the XT engine option (ITS A SPORT!) On the brown leather Napa leather upgrade I'd also change out the steering wheel to the same color of brown leather, illuminated lighting on all knobs, ambienant lighting on the floorboard & cubie. Things that wouldn't break the bank, but would definitely spice this car up. As an older man I like the Forester, but I also like the upgrades Outback has that Forester lacks. Another reason I'm torn between Outback, Forester & Santa Fe. I still have my 2014 V6 Honda Accord, but I'm ready to make a change.

    I have one as a daily here in europe, ours is 150hp+16hp electric, I gotta admit it lacks of power sometimes, but the funny thing about electric is from 0 to 40kmh (0-25mph) which gives a considerable boost, but then over those speeds it truely lacks of power. The steering is really really good, and such confort and such a steering, brakes, ect makes me want to have at least 50hp more (that's why I have an old '05 xt manual beside). Otherwise, this car can definitely offroad way more than your average SUV, and it's favorite terrain is snow! I live in a very snowy place, and when driving this car it just feels like the road is completely dry. I can drive at speed just like if there was nothing. It's also great on the highway, making 1000km with it isn't such a pain, and it stays at about 6.5L/100km (36mpg on the european model).
    The CVTs are hated on the internet in general, and sometimes for good reasons. I've driven a Nissan CVT and hated it! However, this one is less of a pain. It does the weird reving engine sound when you floor it but otherwise it's really good, you can have the manual mode which is very quick and responsive (and feels solid), and if with little tricks you can have the pure-CVT mode (constant rpm rev).
    Conclusion: It's a great car, and with 250hp hybrid it'd be a dream daily driver for snowy places.
