Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

Those young adults WILL NEVER FORGET this and that fact that you both were "cool" and allowed this to happen...good for you...I use to allow teenagers to gather at my house for my two children to have friends together and I knew where they were and who they were with...love this video

I know I have said this before, but I so love it when some of the "Chateaux Gang" get together! First of all, the camaraderie and fun that you have together is so important for you guys. Secondly, we get to see the fun from different angles. I also want to commend you for actively working towards being a part of your community, even when it takes you outside of your comfort zone. (I think it has more than once!) It benefits both you and your community! 🙂
What a fun Halloween you had between Puy Vidal and the students at home! Looks like the mushrooms came out for Halloween too! Loved your costumes.
Perhaps you could let the event management students help with some of your events? They could gain work experience and perhaps help run the event and promotions. They seem polite, appreciative and efficient.
I am Cajun French and I too love the story of Lafayette. His story with our American history makes me proud.

We just got back from a cruise to France and Spain and I'm really surprised at how Halloween has been adopted in Europe. I remember when, not so long ago, people couldn't understand our North American fascination with the holiday. So fun! I can't believe how trusting you are, WOW!!!

Very brave of you to allow the college kids party in such an old building. I was so nervous, lol. But they seemed like a nice responsible group and I'm glad it went off well. I personally love parties like that, and it would have been amazing for me to experience that in an old chateau.... so much respect to you for allowing an event like that.

Mushrooms appear where there is decomposing matter (roots) present. Also, you need a period of time for the gases from the decay to leave before replanting the tree (3 to 4 years). I live on the coast where tree removal is very common from storms and the problem pops up every time! Good luck.

Hi Sarah & Steve, The generosity that you showed to the college students to share your home with them for the Halloween party was extremely generous of both of you. Maybe next year they'll be able to do it again with your generosity. Be wary of the mushrooms, but I hope by now you have aquired a bit of knowledge about which are edible or not. Mark & Scott

Hi Sarah and Steve, the party at Puy Vidal looked like so much fun, Sarah as always, your costume making is perfect, you looked amazing. You both are too crazy, letting college students use your home for a Halloween party, but your judgement was spot on, they were very responsible. I hate mushrooms, the taste, the look, the smell, the texture, I think they are the only thing in life that bothers me, I know, I get mocked all the time for it. Great video. Love from N.Y.
The pics from Chateau Puy Vidal were great! Loved the costumes. Also loved the dogs. They were having such a great time together. I don't want to pick favourites, but Troubadour is special! I think it was wonderful that you allowed the students to have a party in your Chateau. I was impressed with their hard work creating the space. Glad that they had food available and would like to see more food trucks in Toronto! I did wish that more of the attendees had worn costumes. Maybe, as students, they couldn't manage that. But otherwise, it looked like they were up for the party and everyone had a great time. And, maybe most importantly, cleaned up afterwards. Well Done All.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Stephen so happy, relaxed and excited. You are a different man when surrounded by the energy of those young people - I think you forgot about the camera and showed us a bit of your real self. Wonderful.

Bonjour bonsoir Happy Halloween and All Saints party was just fabulous your costume Sarah I loved the black veil a memory of one of my Halloween costume years ago Puy Vidal wonderful hosts purple mist cobwebs blanketing the Chateau hauntingly delightful the pumpkin lanterns very welcoming 😍😍👌All Saints party an absolute success the students focused transformed the Chateau partied allll night long then dismantled the ghoulish decorations cleaned mopped gone was there a party just fabulous Steve and Sarah perfect hosts and a wonderful video enchante my loves💖💖😘😘👏👏🌟

How incredibly generous to allow the kids to have a party in your house! Their decor is so fun! Hopefully in the future if you need help with some heavy lifting, or yard work, you'll have a pool of young energetic folks willing to return the favor, too.
we get those horrible mushrooms in our yard. They come back every year around here from where the tree roots use to be or still are....we call them Honey Mushrooms...I don't know if that is the correct name but if you say honey mushrooms in the local area, everyone sneers up their nose and say "oh yeah, those things"

Well THAT happened ! Wow what a party !! As for the mushrooms, in France if you take them to the local pharmacie they will tell you if you can eat them or not BUT they look like the good kind !

hi Steve, if it's the same in France as it is here, you can cut some of those mushrooms and take them to a pharmacy. The pharmacist can tell you if they are safe to eat.

Mushrooms - I lost an elm tree early in my ownership of this place. For a couple years, I had morels growing in my yard in the spring, where there had never been mushrooms before! It was a fabulous couple of years, though of course it didn’t last. So I hope they’re edible, and you can enjoy the bounty while it lasts. Definitely the plus side of losing a large tree.

Do you find that it’s so relaxing to be at someone else’s chateau where there are no jobs to do? They’re always in the back of my mind when I’m at home! Such a bad habit!
Always the plight of the partner of a costumer. Costumer runs out of steam and time to make a matching partner piece in time for the event. Because we are ALWAYS STILL sewing our own costumes at the last minute. Says the costumer who has totally packed a sewing machine and sewed an unfinished costume in the hotel of a big event.

You probably already know this, but if you need to take that tree down, there's a great tree guy who does work around (Chateau Diaries & Escape to rural France) named Nic. He's got a real colorful beard for the moment... could you use that dead tree for a mushrom farm, hmmmm...
Nick is a top notch professional, and charming man, but too far from us. Yes, Stephen's been doing the research, and realized we need to take it down. Stay tuned for future work!
