Thanks Mr. Pete, enjoyed the road trip and rummage through the treasures and trash. Saw quite a few things I would have liked. I actually like all those thread files, handy and quick to use. Nice catch on the gears!
Good morning MrPete, thank you very much for the content and the highlight of my day is seeing another shop video from you. My sons 8,6, both love it when you make videos and I try to make the projects you show with them, because it's good education that is more fun then just history or placement of lines on a map. Have a wonderful day Rob
i would like to thank you whole heartedly for showing the part where you were pawing through the various trays of tools and bits and bobs.. the drill sharpener that you passed over... i HAVE part of one of those. and now i know what the rest of it looks like! wooohoo! i know how it was set up and might be able to fabricobble replacements. thank you! also that home made 4jaw chuck.. i might see what i can do with that idea
Mr Pete, I'm one of those guys that lives out where there are very few good machine tool auctions, so I get a kick out of watching what you find at them. There's some good stuff in that lot. It's a shame they didn't know enough to sell the change gears along with the lathe. Many thanks for yet another interesting video!
Hi Lyle, another great video. I don’t know what it is about us guys that we love to look through boxes and boxes (& more boxes) of tools looking for treasure. Because of you and several other TH-cam channel guys... Dale Tips&Trick, Jimmy D, TOT, TomOx, Steve Summers, Randy in the shop, John NYC, Joe PieZ, Stephan G,and others, I have been stepping up my shop game. Sold my mini mill and mini lathe and now have a variable speed Bridgeport mill and a 13 x 40 turn pro lathe (came with factory DRO 👍🏽. Let the fun begin! Thanks for all your work to put these videos together, always educational and often entertaining.
Two comments at the approximate 24 minute mark in this video. 1) why were people dismissive of the idea of 3D change gears? I think they would work just fine. 2) Crescent used to sell individual parts to rebuild their adjustable wrenches just like Rigid. I personally sold and bought lower jaws, springs, adjustment wheels and the screw in pins. I do not know if those parts can still be found.
People did not seem to like any of my videos with 3-D printing. I assume they thought it was just a cheap plastic gear that would not hold up. I worked at a hardware store when I was a teenager. There was a little kit box that contains all of the extra parts for these wrenches. Jaws, Knurled, nuts, and screws. Nowadays, everything is just throw away.
@mrpete222 Exactly! That little kit you had in your store was the same kind there was in the store I worked at that doubled as a plumbing shop. Only about ten years ago, I was in a small hdw store in a small town in KS that was going out of business that had a newer Crescent kit from the 60's or 70's that I wanted to buy the whole kit. Sadly, they were just too high for me to buy. Too bad people are too ignorant to understand that 3d gears would be more than durable enough to be used on a home shop type machine. I guess most just don't have enough mechanical aptitude to understand the application of the newer technology.
I have scored some very nice machining accessories at estate sales myself. And nobody else knew what the tools were so there was zero competition. It was a good day.
You did good , I think the one center finder is a brown & sharp and in anoth e r one is an older starrett center finder , they make the print real fine on edges and times it wears off being used and abused . Nice drills and reamers , worth what you paid for the lot. Thanks my days are done so I live through you.
I love your treasure hunts, My Atlas cost $425.00 but alas it only has the 24 inch bed. The Sheldon's 58 inch bed makes up for it, I am amazed at the work small lathes can do. Your evaluation of tols by brand or nation of manufacture is always enlightening.
don't anyone ask me in la la land to sell any of my tools... already have many of these flaring tools which i have not used in years, except for flaring my nostrils...
Thank you sir, I find your videos both educational and entertaining. My father was a machinest, apprenticed for the railroad when the were still using steam. I get your humer and share the same views. I also enjoy the small steam engines I wish you were my neighbor.
Mr Pete, I really enjoy your auction trips! I am always excited when you decide not to stick to your “last auction” vows! I too, am a tool collector. I have a fairly complete Atlas Craftsman 12” Lathe and have been able to find most of the accessories online. There are no good tool auctions near me on the west coast. I recently acquired a complete South Bend 9” Lathe. Thanks for all of the great videos!
Yes, I love Lufkin tools. Love the dark green color. Love the styling, and the feeling. The only thing that I do not like, is that the combination squares were probably never available in satin chrome. My love affair started in January 1966. I very seldom see these tools at auctions.
I loved it as usual, thank you for taking us with you on this one, it was probably as good for us out here as it was for you. Only stop going to these auctions when you cannot be bothered, or can't drive any more, they are good for you!!
Well at least you've got some semblance of self control, you have some reason to hope for a small bit of recovery from the downward spiral into TOOL MADNESS!!!. Well done Mr. Pete
Seen some nice items in those boxes . Looked like you had a couple translucent Arkansas stones in one of those boxes. If I see correctly. Love those and they are very expensive. Nice scores. You done well. 👍
Lyle Glad to see your " illness " has not been cured, and is not likely to be. The Atkins hacksaw you thought was the better of the two is probably an E C Atkins, Indianapolis, IN, but after it was taken over by Borg Warner, and then by Nicholson. They were makers of highly regarded wood hand saws and also meat saws. Best regards
most of the tooling and machine tools i find at estate sales and flea markets. i have 3 atlas/craftsman lathes a 618, 9 inch atlas utilty from the ww2 era,and a 12 inch. i only paid 150 for my 12 inch, although it needs some tlc. i have a older craftsman machinist box that has the same logo as my 12 inch lathe,of course i had to have it..... nice stuff, you did very well
I was just thinking a few auctions back, I'm sure you said "this will be my last auction" :) I love the footage of you rooting around in the boxes at the start... makes me want to be there with you. Your trash would be like a treasure chest to me.
I have never seen a double ended adjustable wrench. But I don’t particularly like using adjustable wrenches anyway. “Probably the very last tool auction I will ever attend”? Yeah, sure...... enjoyed the video, take care.
Those drill guide bushings are a great find. I was looking for one today online and they run about $10.00 to $12.00 each. I collect old cast iron Briggs & Stratton and Clinton engines and have a few with broken 5/16 NC head bolts.
That long tool with the corkscrew on the end you move at 16:06 is for removing the graphite packing on a pump shaft. Comes in handy if you ever have to do that.
I'm glad all of those good tools are coming together in one place in the universe. hahah. You know, if you keep this up, I'll start hitting the sales again myself.! lol
@ 15:30, the item on the red ad white card that says "Ungar" is a soldering iron tip for Ungar soldering irons. If you do not have an Ungar soldering iron, that will definitely sell on eBay.
Hi MrPete, thanks for sharing this, I always enjoy your videos about the loot after an Auction visit. At 17.21 in the Video in one of the boxes you pick up an item you refer to as a " Flaring Tool " I have often seen this item before at tool auctions but I am totally ignorant as to what they are for or how they are supposed to be used ? :-) Maybe you have previously briefly discussed these tools in one of your many other videos ?
I wish we had auctions like that here in the northeast, people around here think old, used, worn and beat-on machinist tools are worth way more than they really are!
I saw some great finds love all your viedo's sir. You've inspired me to trade for a lathe haven't ran one scence trade school looking forward to figuring it all out again.
Starrett 270 taper gauge = 80 bucks.... Mr Pete goes buggy for Starrett , Brown & Dull, Lufkin, and Jacobs Chucks !!! Lyle, hope im still getting excited over stuff at your age !!!
Run those magnets under and behind the benches and machines to find all the set screws you have lost over the years. LOL Wish there were auctions like that around here. See you next time!
Mr Pete, when your Burnsomatic torch gives up its ghost, which should be within the next bottle or 2, get turbo's version of that same torch head it will be the last one you'll need.
If you find out the name of the combination square set at 34:00, I would like to know. I have a set with similar markings. My square head has "AD" over "6", instead of "4" like yours. Not sure I've ever seen the local type auctioneers that knew much about what they were selling. It is a dis-service to those who hire them.
I think I enjoy your auction videos the best, I enjoyed looking through your great finds. Thanks for sharing this!

@@mrpete222 I thought the gears were a great idea and I did make them. They work quite well for what I use a lathe for.
Great video, Mr. Pete. I could watch these auction finds all day long.

Tool Hoarder Tubalcain Returns!!! I'd say these are my favorite videos, but truth is ALL your videos are my favorites!
🤙🤙🤙🤙
Hello...I'm Tublcain and I'm a Tooloholic. ...love it!!!

don't anyone ask me in la la land to sell any of my tools...
already have many of these flaring tools which i have not used in years, except for flaring my nostrils...
I was so happy that you found all four parts of the Craftsman combination square in two different boxes!!! Just meant to be!
It's always fun watching you going through boxes from an auction. Some nice items to add to the hoard!
🤙
Good show! Can't wait until your next "final" auction! Cheers from Australia...
There will be no more. And that's final
Thank you sir, I find your videos both educational and entertaining. My father was a machinest, apprenticed for the railroad when the were still using steam. I get your humer and share the same views. I also enjoy the small steam engines I wish you were my neighbor.

Thank you very much
Love your road trips Mr. Pete !
Thank you
Thanks for all your videos, you do some amazing work. I used your videos to restore my South Bend Lathe.
I also absolutely adore Lufkin tools. Nice job, Lyle.

That box of wrenches (and that odd ratchet) at 24:00 made my heart flutter. I enjoy the auction videos and I thank you for sharing them with us.

Please continue with these types of videos, I really enjoy watching them and learning.
Thank you, I shall

I hope to never have self-control
Naww, don't stop the auction vids. I love the variety. And there's always a nugget of learning in every one.
🤙
Love the Auction videos. Seeing that pocket protector brought back memories of my dad.
🤙
Always fun. Those old open wrenches make my knuckles feel bad, chuckle.
That's why I threw them all away
Looks like most of the stuff was in that craftsman box,now you can put it back in.Love your travel vids Mr Pete.

Seen some nice items in those boxes . Looked like you had a couple translucent Arkansas stones in one of those boxes. If I see correctly. Love those and they are very expensive. Nice scores. You done well. 👍

Steve Summe
Steve Summers is there any tool auctions in jersey or newyork
eric oneil I couldn't tell you. I live in Kentucky. I can't find them locally 😃
You did good Mr. Pete!
You can have your own auction one day!
Love your videos!
And thank you for all your hard work getting them out to us!

Yes, now I remember them. They made hacksaw and band saw blades
No auctions in my area, so its interesting to see what you have purchased. Prices seem incredably low.
Yeah no real auctions around me either.
I really enjoy these auction tours. They are so rare down here in Florida.
I'm glad you like them. Too bad that was my last one

I found one of those in dads garage a few years ago. Certainly a collectable. Funny you never see a Chinese copy of them.
Some nice finds! Thanks for sharing!

Tool hoarding is a virtue, not a disease.
lol
The swish, tink, tinkle of looking through a tool box or drawer. :)

Starrett 270 taper gauge = 80 bucks.... Mr Pete goes buggy for Starrett , Brown & Dull, Lufkin, and Jacobs Chucks !!! Lyle, hope im still getting excited over stuff at your age !!!
You got that right. Wow, $80
Geez can't believe the deal you got there, I've got to see if we have any local auction like that around here....

It does indeed thank you
Love these auction videos you make, please keep going to them!
🤙🤙
That was quite a varied selection.
Yes
I am still laughing about you getting cheated on your second hand purchase. Really enjoyed video as always !!
lol
If you find out the name of the combination square set at 34:00, I would like to know. I have a set with similar markings. My square head has "AD" over "6", instead of "4" like yours. It is a craftsman. It fits on the protractor set
Another great video i love the auctions you go to.
I to have the disease 😁
Excellent vedio
The very last auction... of April. The bionic wrench is a pretty good tool but the fact it doesn't fit in tight places is a bit of a pain. It's much better than a normal adjustable for the places it does fit though.
It is considered a novelty, and worthless
Mr Pete.
At about 13:32 you pick up a bit from one of the boxes wit P&H on the top. I work for the company based in Milwaukee WI. They produce mining shovels Drill and Draglines. Been in Milwaukee since 1884. I would like a closer look to try and identify it if you could indulge me.
I remember the box. But it's in the landfill. And I remember seeing many of your cranes
I wouldn't mind lathes turning up here once in a while. Rarely if one does, it's slogged out and goes for a fortune. Enjoy your excursions.
👌
A man after my own heart! The two blued/threaded fittings in the $5 box at 30:50 are compression tester adapters.
Thanks
Ive been looking for two gears on eBay and they are asking 70-80 dollars for the pair i need, so yes that flat with the change gears was a good buy.
Wow
I wish I could find a Craftsman/Atlas lathe for that price. The closest one like that is 8 hrs away in Grant Park and $950 for it. Yeah it has a fancy cabinet that I don't but it shouldn't be a $500 cabinet attached to it. And then there is the fuel cost to get there and overnight accommodations. Most of what I see are beat up old converted overhead belt drives.
There seems to be plenty of used machines around here
Love these kinds of videos, I think im a collector, wife says im a hoarder, what does she know,
I love a hoarders, as long as it is tool related
Pleasurefully?!😂😂😂😂 Good one Mr. Pete!
Mr pete could u hold up that drill sharpening instructions and the taper chart up on the next video so i could copy it thanks
I will try to remember that. I think I threw the taper chart away
One man's junk is another man's treasure!! I would buy a lot of that ''junk''!! ;)
Hording is "UNTREATABLE" PERIOD......!!!!!! Ask how I know... :)
lol
Pierre's Garage ...it's one of the few HEALTHY addictions-!!!
You make me miss my Grandfather horribly :( Lived right in your area, well close enough anyways, IL-MI border.
Thanks 😂
as an upstanding citizen of la-la land I am disappointed you have nothing to sell.
Love your videos MrPete222, I'm from the UK and I don't know anything much about machining except what I've learned on TH-cam but I'm learning to become a tool hoarder too - you can't just throw out good carbon tool steel eh? 😅
Sorry, I have to throw out a few things
Hmm you could start your own metal lathe store. All brands of used equipment and tools.
lol

Most people do not seem to mind. I do not like them
Just for fun I looked up the Lufkin protractor on eBay. They seem to be selling for $15~$20.
Not bad
all you have to do is look for auctions there every ware people live . thanks for sharing
Very true
ROCK - ON !!! ONE MORE AUCTION !!
🤙
Hey! Are you Mr. Pete or Uncle Doug? LOL! I do watch your machining and your guitar amp videos. I enjoy both types of videos that you do.
It's almost like they put a prize in with
the wooden spoons in every box.
👌
Just want to say thanks from la la land! You saved me some money and I really enjoyed going alone with you :)

Some more good finds.
