    Ronald Grigor Suny is the William H. Sewell Jr. Distinguished University Professor of History at the University of Michigan, Emeritus Professor of Political Science and History at the University of Chicago, and Senior Researcher at the National Research University-Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg, Russia. Suny is the author of the Soviet Experiment: Russia, the USSR, and the Successor States; "They Can Live in the Desert but Nowhere Else": A History of the Armenian Genocide; Red Flag Unfurled: History, Historians, and the Russian Revolution; and co-author of Russia's Empires (with Valerie A. Kivelson).
