    Most impressive! As a former resident of Bow Island who grew up there (1960-1973), it is amazing to see how this farm has adapted and innovated. Awesome, actually!

    Where is this at. I toured a mint farm in central Michigan 2 years ago. Was one of the coolest operations I have seen. He's one of the only ones in the state if not the only one.

    Would someone be kind enough to point out the reason for the circular marks in the field? Are they from the irrigation equipment? Many thanks.

      M Jona Yes they are from a center pivot irrigation system.

    after distilling could you turn it into silage, if thats what you call it in the U S A,and then use it for animal feed.

    How many times a year can you harvest this, - I would have thought more than once. I have always been told you can't use it when it is flowering. Is this just the "standard" mint as there are different varieties.?

    • @kylethacker1908
      @kylethacker1908  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christopher Lovelock we are a single cut region. Our American friends not much farther south will double cut. This is a standard scotch spearmint plant. And we harvest when it is in full bloom that is when the oil content is the highest.

      @christopherlovelock9104 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Thacker ... Now that is most interesting, I have always been told to wait until the flowering is over as the flowers can make you ill. I'm very surprised you only harvest once a year as mint is renowned to be a very fast growing plant in the UK. You can cut it right down to the ground and within 6 weeks it is 12" to 15"+ high again.

    that looks like rye to me I kept waiting to see the still to see how they seal the trailer to steam the oil out

    • @Snowtruckdriver
      @Snowtruckdriver 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      From the looks of the top rails of the trailer I would guess that the steam dome would be set down on the top and clamped somehow. that's how they used to do it in Washington state where i grew up but the trailers were shorter back then.

    excuse the question but is this for human use or animals?

    • @mdavidopie6993
      @mdavidopie6993 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Human. Toothpaste, Gum and anything with mint oil in it as flavoring or for smell. The most similar operation to this for animal feed would be Silage but mint would never be used for that.

      M David Opie we actually have sold the spent hay after distilling for cattle feed. They cows really like our dill hay also. But it is more useful to us spread back in the field as fertilizer.

    • @mdavidopie6993
      @mdavidopie6993 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. Never heard of it for animal feed in my 5 years of growing mint and operating a distillery.

  • @zacharyfabricius6250

    Kyle, are you transferring this into a mint tub or distilling right out of that same trailer? Thanks!

    • @kylethacker1908
      @kylethacker1908  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We distill in those trailers.

    • @zacharyfabricius6250
      @zacharyfabricius6250 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very cool. I am assuming a separate top that is dropped down on top of the trailer? Sorry for the questions, I am from Idaho and we distill in enclosed trailers. I like your set up a lot better.

    • @kylethacker1908
      @kylethacker1908  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      zachary Fabricius Yes we have a lid that lowers at the still. We had 18’ Newhouse tubs before we went to this system.
