He’s saying because the suns have a three headed monster, if you get rid of the most dangerous team / the wild card , you know the rest of the western conference will be a breeze. No matter who you face first round, there’s really no easy rounds to the finals in the west . I guess he’s saying if you’re trying to be a champion , you’ll have to see these guys anyway. So don’t try to avoid them so you go into the next round with the confidence that you beat a top 3-4 talent in the conference

The west is extremely close. I can see the Nuggets and Thunder having a good run. The thunder have been really surprising with how good they’ve been this year. It’s going to come down to the wire.

The east is literally the toughest it has been so far with the Knicks and Cavs improving a lot and the Bucks can still figure it out and be ready for the playoffs and Embiid will be back in 4 weeks

Doc Rivers has truly earned the honor of all star head coach. His 1-5 record is emblematic of his coaching ability, surely earning the respect and admiration of the elite players in the league
Even the best team in the NBA has a better chance of beating the 8th seed rather than the 2nd seed. You're not afraid of anyone on your road to a championship, but with the strength of teams in the west, being the 2nd vs 3rd seed can make a huge difference.

loved kenny's point.. its the postseason, as much as possible, finish the first round opponent in a short time, then grind it out the rest of the way...
but..
this argument could be 50-50...
if teamA have beaten a projected champion team in the first round in a grit and grind battle, it will show showcase on how they will adjust and showcase on what is their weakness in the same first round...and that is an advantage going to the next round, as the coach possibly know then on what rotation is he is going to use.
also, beating teams in blowout sometimes is a bad case.. ... just because yall shooting 60% from three doesnt mean yall gonna do that all thru the finals... of course as a team and as a fan, we loved blowing out opponents.. but when it comes to tight games, and your team isnt experienced enough to deal in tight low scoring games, then its a different story.
these teams aren't even my favorite, but Suns vs Clippers series will be a must watch

It’s all about matchups in the playoffs. You want the easiest path to the Finals. And yes if you’re a dominant team it doesn’t matter who you play but you still want the easiest path. If you’re in a spot where you can avoid playing some really good teams while they beat up on each other while ousting another good team for you, then that’s even better.

I can stand with what Shaq is saying. If you really are a championship contender why not defeat the tough team in the first round? Then the other rounds (with the added pressure of each round) should be easier relatively speaking. You can’t be soft in sports
You can’t really “choose” who you want to play. Also it’s common sense why the top seeds usually win the championship, they avoid the gauntlet aka not beating 4 great teams in playoff series

I get shaq's point esp this season western conference,,,every team is tough, eliminate the better team when you are fresher,,i.e you are more likely to lose to clippers in the second / third round than the first esp if you are lakers/GSW,,you are older and lack star potential of the bench,, you better face them straight from the rest and playoff thrill than later when you are a bit physically/mentally fatigued,, and I don't see anyone sweeping anyone in any round this playoff,,, clippers, nuggets, wolves, okc,pelicans,gsw,suns,kings, mavericks,lakers,, all these teams can be a problem as any day,,,
The 1 and 2 seeds are gonna have to play some tough first round games too
