they clearly entered the apartment, shook the spray paint can, tagged the window and left so quietly that someone squatting somewhere they shouldn't be slept through it
It's also clearly on the outside despite the fire not starting anywhere near it, so they got inside and still chose to do it on the outside. Very respectable. And despite the attempted murder they made no effort to block the window or wait for her to leave through it. They didn't know about the money either so all they did was burn down a home she didn't own anyway. What?

Actually, I love when my games or movies visually show me something interesting or informative and then immediately follow it up with a character saying "Did ya see that? I guess THAT'S happening now!" It's very reassuring to my walnut-brain that a character just repeat a description of the thing I've already experienced!

She did the lore along with someone else. And that is actually interesting somewhat. Check the credits they show the writers of the cringe as some of the first few things credited
You know in a normal story our hero would be reluctant to kill the strange beast since we spent so much time showing her love of animals, or create tension where she's cornered by the monster and the talking bracelet has to coach her to use her powers since this she's had zero time to process any of this. But I see they were more concerned with the repetitive "witty" dialogue
Just like how someone who spent their entire life homeless in New York City should have the barest amount of survival instinct when confronting a wild animal. It's like they're barely interested in making a character with any depth or consistency.

What Zach says about the protagonist being opposed to the story is so true. It really hit me at 18:58 too. It's so annoying to sit through a game's introduction for like an hour or something and the moment you finally get to have some fun with some actual gameplay, your character still keeps harping on about how weird all of this is and how they don't want any of this. What is this supposed to accomplish? I really hope this writing style dies out quickly.

I've seen city people try to call out one of my friends on Facebook for moving a red-bellied black snake from his backyard with one of those snake handling sticks. Apparently we "traumatised" the poor thing (if the guy wasn't there, we would have killed it). They don't have the first clue about animals.
People see cute videos of grizzlies and think it’s okay to try and approach them. Most of these people are most likely city folk who haven’t actually seen a bear IRL.
My favorite part was when the character who grew up in the slums of New York city saw a stray dog-like animal and thought 'friend' instead of 'rabies'.
Did they break in without her noticing. See her there. then turn around and leave to set building on fire. Also why ? It seems they are mad she failed to steal something successfully for them. How does murdering her mean it will get done ? Why go through all the effort of tracking a homeless 21 year old down and then trying to kill her.
well yeah. thats how they always do things, they tend to record like 8ish videos in a sesh, and release them in some sort of pattern interlaced with other recording seshes for variety. sometimes right after, sometimes like a month later. at least thats the impression i've gotten through context clues and stuff
It was because they had issues with frame drops. Chris tweeted out if anyone knows how to fix missing frames to make videos less jarring and some nice folks actually provided a response minus the 100 shitty jokes and not helping.

I really hope they finish this game, I REALLY wanna see their reaction when they reach a certain part. I love that they are super critical of this game, because every time something happens its stupid and deserves to be criticized, which makes me excited for when they reach the REALLY bad stuff. The thing about South Korean being controlled by a matriarchal cult was real, look it up. (And yes, one was fat, another missing a foot, one was skinny, and they were all equally as beautiful)
Videos of them playing this game, Marvel's Avengers, and the Saints Row Reboot should be studied as examples of how NOT to write your story. I mean it also helps that Zach is involved in all of those, especially considering he's behind one of the best shows on Adult Swim. Hell, I've been tinkering away at a few scripts for ideas myself and videos like this really made me reconsider how characters should behave/interact.
First rule, unless you're writing young adult fiction or a trashy romance novel, don't make the protagonist a self-insert. Seriously, if you ever encounter a painfully unlikeable protagonist, there's a 99% chance that the writer looks identical to said character. Most blatantly that "I Am Not Starfire" comic that everyone trashed a couple of years ago.

Also, usually when a character talks like this one, it's because they have nothing to fucking do in the story and thus no emotional ties to what's happening in it and no reason to ever speak except to say exactly what the audience is supposed to think. Characters shouldn't be some random boring person thrown into a fantastical world like a basic college chick playing dnd for the first time. The story follows them BECAUSE they're related to the story. BECAUSE there's something wrong with them. If they don't have a voice and a perspective that lets them practically write themselves, you've already fucked up. Imagine breaking bad if walter white weren't a dickhead and just acted like a bystander to everything going on around him. Hell, imagine james cameron's avatar if jake sullivan had any reason to care about the aliens except to do what the audience *thinks* they would do in his place. Maybe if we saw his life on the canonically dystopic earth he's from like the movie was originally going to do. Then being put in the avatar program would be a mixture of spite for the world he was born in and a desire to be where he thinks the action is - where he thinks he could do something about it. Give him a sliver of investment in the humans he betrays so it's not so easy for him. Rather than just "why am I here? Oh cool, new legs. Time to get some alien strange."
Just like Saint Row and Yikk it's impressive that no one in the "development" team stopped everything for a second to point out how shit the writing was, it must be a skill to inhale such amount of copium to believe this is good...
It's so apparent Santa Monica _God of War_ was more pasdionate a partnership for him. He called out their great writing as a specific inspiration while scoring it; he's there in-character for a key emotional scene; they gave him special spotlight for the collab with Hozier. . . By comparison, this and _Rings of Power_ seem like they were just a job for him, and I respect those priorities.
Just to note. They sometimes will leave power on in vacant buildings for maintenance. Fire prevention, burglar alarms, heating. What she was doing is possible, but really risky to get caught.
Not to mention it makes it really fucking obvious that she's there in the first place. "Oh hey my electric bill went up 5000%," surely thats nothing to be concerned about.

I can't get over the fact that she had the bag of money to begin with. So she was charged with theft, but I guess they let her go because Christmas? But then if they never had the cash, how could they charge her with the theft? If they still charged her but never recovered the funds, they must have known how much she took, and given the absurd stacks she had that had to be a felony so why was she let go?! This seems like an issue of too many cooks. I assume the "punch up" writers who added all the really dumb rewrites aren't even credited.
She did the lore along with someone else. And that is actually interesting somewhat.
Check the credits they show the writers of the cringe as some of the first few things credited
You know in a normal story our hero would be reluctant to kill the strange beast since we spent so much time showing her love of animals, or create tension where she's cornered by the monster and the talking bracelet has to coach her to use her powers since this she's had zero time to process any of this.
But I see they were more concerned with the repetitive "witty" dialogue
Just like how someone who spent their entire life homeless in New York City should have the barest amount of survival instinct when confronting a wild animal. It's like they're barely interested in making a character with any depth or consistency.

What Zach says about the protagonist being opposed to the story is so true. It really hit me at 18:58 too. It's so annoying to sit through a game's introduction for like an hour or something and the moment you finally get to have some fun with some actual gameplay, your character still keeps harping on about how weird all of this is and how they don't want any of this. What is this supposed to accomplish? I really hope this writing style dies out quickly.

well yeah. thats how they always do things, they tend to record like 8ish videos in a sesh, and release them in some sort of pattern interlaced with other recording seshes for variety. sometimes right after, sometimes like a month later. at least thats the impression i've gotten through context clues and stuff
It was because they had issues with frame drops. Chris tweeted out if anyone knows how to fix missing frames to make videos less jarring and some nice folks actually provided a response minus the 100 shitty jokes and not helping.

Not increasing the difficulty is the absolute correct choice, the difficulty does not increase but the enemies health do making it 10 times more dragged out

There's something about the fact that literally every single person I've seen play this tried to bring the money.
It's almost a Harvard level intro course on fictional character assassinations. Just instantly makes it impossible to feel for the character.

Why did the story need her to have a money bag? Her apartment burning down when she has nothing to her name would have been enough to get she's on the receiving end of things.

Videos of them playing this game, Marvel's Avengers, and the Saints Row Reboot should be studied as examples of how NOT to write your story. I mean it also helps that Zach is involved in all of those, especially considering he's behind one of the best shows on Adult Swim. Hell, I've been tinkering away at a few scripts for ideas myself and videos like this really made me reconsider how characters should behave/interact.

First rule, unless you're writing young adult fiction or a trashy romance novel, don't make the protagonist a self-insert.
Seriously, if you ever encounter a painfully unlikeable protagonist, there's a 99% chance that the writer looks identical to said character. Most blatantly that "I Am Not Starfire" comic that everyone trashed a couple of years ago.

Also, usually when a character talks like this one, it's because they have nothing to fucking do in the story and thus no emotional ties to what's happening in it and no reason to ever speak except to say exactly what the audience is supposed to think.
Characters shouldn't be some random boring person thrown into a fantastical world like a basic college chick playing dnd for the first time. The story follows them BECAUSE they're related to the story. BECAUSE there's something wrong with them.
If they don't have a voice and a perspective that lets them practically write themselves, you've already fucked up.
Imagine breaking bad if walter white weren't a dickhead and just acted like a bystander to everything going on around him.
Hell, imagine james cameron's avatar if jake sullivan had any reason to care about the aliens except to do what the audience *thinks* they would do in his place. Maybe if we saw his life on the canonically dystopic earth he's from like the movie was originally going to do. Then being put in the avatar program would be a mixture of spite for the world he was born in and a desire to be where he thinks the action is - where he thinks he could do something about it. Give him a sliver of investment in the humans he betrays so it's not so easy for him. Rather than just "why am I here? Oh cool, new legs. Time to get some alien strange."
Easily has the potential to become one of the best Oneyplays series.
Just like Saint Row and Yikk it's impressive that no one in the "development" team stopped everything for a second to point out how shit the writing was, it must be a skill to inhale such amount of copium to believe this is good...

I kind of feel bad for Bear McCreary, it must have been a nightmare to score such a "cinematic" experience.
It's so apparent Santa Monica _God of War_ was more pasdionate a partnership for him. He called out their great writing as a specific inspiration while scoring it; he's there in-character for a key emotional scene; they gave him special spotlight for the collab with Hozier. . .
By comparison, this and _Rings of Power_ seem like they were just a job for him, and I respect those priorities.
Just to note. They sometimes will leave power on in vacant buildings for maintenance. Fire prevention, burglar alarms, heating. What she was doing is possible, but really risky to get caught.
