You're both right about cost of dates. It's all a matter of who you're with though bc a girl expecting expensive is a no-go but also if you really truly like her you may go somewhere expensive in an extra effort to wow her. However, cheap meals keep it more relaxed and so you can more easily enjoy yourselves if other things are planned

When you are an adult with a job, the average is $100 min. $60 if its someone you know and they know you are cool, but it is not normal to cheap out on the first date because people will assume you don't really want to date them.

I agree that first dates should be split pay, but like. Everyone’s different. If I was expected to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a first date, I would absolutely walk out lmao. Most of my first dates have just been like. Coffee. And maybe a walk afterwards. All of these dates have been nice and we both enjoyed them, regardless of whether or not we continued seeing each other afterwards.

I think first dates should be chill personality checks. Go out to somewhere chill and just pay for what you get. Going somewhere even partially fancy or somewhere kinda expensive is pointless for something that could go no where plus it could set the wrong expectation depending on who you or they are.

I think the kind of first date you guys are expecting are different. If I really like a girl and want to take her out I'd take her to a nicer restaurant and might budget 80 to 100 dollars. But if I'm going on a date with like a girl from tinder or someone I don't know very well, then it's best to keep it cheaper.

My current relationship of 8 years is still going strong and our first date was going to BJ's and getting drinks and an app. You go on these dates to connect. If you're trying to force something by spending a hundred or hundreds, you will be taken advantage of everytime. Every relationship that worked out we just went and did something fun (like mingolf or we went and bowled and played pool) or easy coffee date or drink date. The ones where I spent more (i was young and stupid) didn't work out. They were fun but it didn't last.

As a gay dude to me 50/50 is a very reasonable thing. You pay for your side, I do for mine. If I or you feel like we connected and want to pay for the other, that's totally okay as well, but being forced to pay simply because you initiated the date just doesn't seem like the best thing to me. Then again, it's very different in the straight world since there's this "standard" that the man has to pay for the girl, which to me is stupid.

I hate the unknown for paying for first dates. You could say you’ll pay for the first & they paid for the second but you don’t know if you’ll get another date. You don’t know if they expect you to pay because that’s the “gentleman” thing to do. Or how they’ll react if you want to split it, which is how I think it should be done. At the very least I won’t be going on any experience first dates.

About the dates, i would usually ask girl out to get some drinks that i would pay for. I would never pay for meal, but i dont mind paying for drinks as it isnt so much and its a nice way of saying that you like them... but tbh i have been on dates with only girls ive knew before so it might be different if i went out with someone i dont know
its a tough call. I once went on a date, coffee and then lunch. less than 20 bucks (for each I mean) and she was upset I didn't pay. She said since I initiated i should have paid, but my logic was, "you cant pay up 20 bucks?" Not like we went out to a crazy nice restaurant we got cheap street tacos.
