I worked with a dude who once said, "Man, I wish someone would let a mountain lion loose in the office, just so I could feel alive." Dude was lonely and lacking purpose. And I could relate, the work we were doing was not fulfilling.
Damn! thats my attitude currently. Lately, I've been feeling flat. I feel trapped in routine. My office is very quiet, and my current role doesn't have a lot of social interaction. I'm just an ordinary salary man, who has a day job, does groceries and cooks. I'm 41, and I try my best to go to meetups and social events, but it seems harder connecting with people than it did a few years ago. I just feel like I'm doing an "ok" job, when I need to be doing better. It's much more competitive now. I need to be more extroverted, more confident and better looking to make friends and to date. I do have a purpose. I want to aim for a better a job and move into an area where I feel more accepted. The hobbies and freelance work do help in this mission. I do hope that other men can find their purpose as well. I'm also glad people are understanding of our situation, rather than telling us to "man up".
You triggered a memory. My brother was overweight for his first 20 years of life, and he got sick of it, so he started going to the gym. He worked out a lot, tried different diets and supplements, and started smoking the wacky tobaccy at some point. He told me this story about how one night, he smoked a little, and went into the gym to do some running. On one of the TVs in the gym there was a news story about a cougar that had wandered into a residential neighborhood, and he just saw this image of a huge cat prowling across a yard in front of a house, and he said the combination of the image of that big cat, the metal music he was listening to, the slight high he was feeling, plus the feeling of being in the zone that comes from a good workout, his imagination grabbed him, and he imagined being there, running across the yard, and tackling and fighting that cougar. It was one of the most simultaneously hilarious, absurd, and badass things I’d ever heard of. 😂 Edit: and for the record, that became a thing my little brother wanted to do irl: become so badass he could defeat a cougar barehanded. And now I want to do it too.

I watched my 19 year old nephew flounder for 18 months after HS.Dropped out of College, and tech school. He seemed to have everything going for him too...tall , handsome strong but his head was just lost. He was depressed, angry, lonely no friends. And of course he kept it all bottled up. Luckily my sister was strong enough to really push him enough and he joined to Coast Guard. Was the best thing he ever did.

As a mother of 3 boys and a psychologist, this has deeply disturbed me for a significant amount of time. Not only nature causing difficult emotions but society shunning them and the “progressive” left emasculating them. I guess they forgot the whole “be kind” mantra. With male clients I always provide male-focused crisis support as well as general so they know they’re not alone from a male POV. Fact is, all humans have flaws. People need to stop demonising men and encouraging better male role models like Isaac who give a frank perspective.

One of my best friends has three kids, two boys and a girl the boys are 16 and 13 and little miss is 11. She said to me the other day that she never in a million years thought that raising her boys would be harder than raising a girl. This is terrifying. As I listen I realize that as I get older, I’m becoming much more reclusive. My friends are in other states. I spend an inordinate amount of time alone at home. When I date, I never get vulnerable with my girlfriend which ends up making all of my relationships quick. I honestly don’t see a way out of this hole. I used to be extremely social, but at 40 I’ll go days without talking to anyone. This world has become a dark place. I’m floundering to find purpose as an antidote to my despair. If you’re in this hole too, I’ll pray for all of us and try to hold onto the hope we can find the ladder to get us out.
Choose a charity or cause that means a lot to you and go volunteer. You’ll meet good people with similar interests and values and it will help you feel much better. Humans need certain things to be happy- a sense of community, achievable goals, etc. Good people do good things. Don’t let entitled superficial people in your circle. Everyone has comfort zones that shrink. Push against them.
I understand how you feel. I'm only 29 and I feel the same. Struggling to see any significant purpose for my existance on this planet. Go to God brother. Only he can give us purpose and only what we do in Jesus' name will last. Stay strong brother.
Relationship wise, I say be honest (after a reasonably appropriate amount of time - no ones attracted to people who put a mountain of sadness down off the bat). If you're partner isn't someone you can be honest with, it's a waste of a relationship. Find another. It's hard, but at least then the time is spent finding a good relationship, not spent investing in a bad one. At least, that's my take. Similarly, I say go get some hobbies and find friends through them. Depending on where you are, finding people who aren't politically driven in their relationships can be hard, but I say ignore those people once again. Ignore the bad focus on the good. That's what I do. I have plenty of women who are... insane in my life, but having other people around who do agree with my opinions helps to ground me and remind me I'm not radical for disagreeing with them. Especially knowing my partner and I agree.

I'm a 46yr old single father and I think about this daily. I've been single for about 12yrs by choice. I decided when me and his mother split up that I would give 100% of my time and attention to my boy. It's paid off really well. He's 16, a great young man, And the best thing that ever happened to me. But it is a bit lonely at times. I'm constantly broke and eternaly worried about my son existing in this world .

Life always has and always will be work. We work less than any other period in history. You think the founders America took weekends off, had paid vacations, clocked out after 8 hours? No they didn't, they worked from sun up to sun down, or they didn't eat, didn't have shelter, ect.
I was married at 19 he was 20, and we're still together now at 39, and I would never change it, we have gone through a lot of struggles as most relationships but we have never given up on each other. People now are far too quick to give up. Our son who is in his teens never had access to a phone or iPad type thing until he was 13, there is just no need for young children to have this. I cringe when I see kids in push chairs face in a device, you need to learn to be bored and find and make your own entertainment, kids won't do this with parents pushing devices in their hands. My son is actually feeling lonely and I put it down to society, each girl he asks out doesn't know if they are gay or not or doesn't know how to control their wildly incorrect views of men. What is wrong with our kids? I currently attend TAFE (Technical College for non-Australians) and the other day I was waiting, by myself, for the lift. The lift doors open, I step inside and press the button for my floor. Two people stop the lift doors and come in, a female and a trans person. The trans person accused me of being aggressive. This was the entirety of the interaction, I have never had anything to do with these people before, neither directly or indirectly. Yet according to them, I'm aggressive for no other reason than the fact that I caught a lift.

I'm a divorced father in my 40s. I was desperately lonely for about 6 months after my divorce, but it faded. I am male and recently turned 18. Seeing this kind of crap makes me incredibly scared of progressing through my life in society. I enjoy working out and doing conventionally manly things, and people take that as me hating myself, so I try to make myself better by superficial means. I found my answer to all of this "It's all your fault" stuff and the loneliness. I just don't care anymore; I can feel my heart as cold as ice regarding love and friendship. I'm glad that this is at last, being touched upon. I've been suffering from Psychogenic Pain Disorder (even though the use of that term is outdated) stemming from the psychological and verbal abuse I've received in public and in my home, for years now. The scorn and hate I have received over the past few years, that I'm not strong, smart, fast, funny, attractive, tall, talented or otherwise, in everybody's eyes apparently, has been debilitating. To the point where every time I see a happy couple in public, I have to hold onto the nearest object or railing to prevent myself from collapsing to the floor entirely, due to the intensity of the pain. It's cold, disabling and debilitating, I feel exhausted even though I've done nothing to exert myself, or freezing even though I literally live in a desert. I've lost so many friends since my graduation and acceptance into college, including the first woman I ever professed my love to in confidence, and even here I don't feel welcome. I hope that sooner rather than later, my pain as well as many others' who are unable to go anywhere, or say or do anything without being looked at like a freak will know peace.

Bang on brother. I'm a 6'5" blokey bloke and aware of my head as much as my heart and use both accordingly. I've been there too, as a teenager. If/since society does not value you, allow me to then. Give yourself to me, and I will give you purpose. I hadn't realised how prevalent this had become. Reclusion sneaks up on you. I don't even know how or when it happened. It wasn't conscious and I can't even remember how it happened. I used to be social with a healthy dating life. Then one day I was working from home, hadn't dated for years and had no friends left. I buy everything online so really the only people I see now are delivery guys. Otherwise it's not unusual to not leave the house for months. I don't even have and social media accounts anymore. That's how little I care about the world now. Life is just significantly easier without other people. I got tired of being the bad guy so I checked out of society. She's right. There's a total lack of purpose. There's nothing I really care about anymore. It's like I'm just going through the motions of life. It's like I'm simply existing until I don't.
Same dude , I havnt dated in nearly 8 years , I have a couple of acquaintances I wouldn't call good friends and I simply prefer not to be around people. The only thing I care for and the only reason my life is anything worthwhile is my 2 kids that I work hard to have and keep a great relationship with. If they weren't around I most def would not be. Ngl you definitely sound like a couple of my exs who were so insecure about themselves- specifically their height in comparison to me that they ended up negging the hell out of me till I left. Im 5'10 and the shortest I ever dated was 5'2 and why I left was never their height- it was how I was being treated. Many of them basically demanded I not wear heels and would pick at my looks in other ways and the topics I would bring up(I'm artsy and ADHD so I like loud colors and random information and they all knew this going into it- to sum me up well my one ex once told me "I have never met someone I have so much and so little in common."). The worst one of them I had initially really like as he also likes Ansel Adams(Photographer) but eventually talking to him got to a point that he was acusing me of trying to make him feel dumb/belittle him(which was 100% not what I was doing and a red flag to me) so I ended it- initially I didn't block him on social media but I did in the end because he started stalking me and trying to get me to get back with him telling me he was sorry over several months mixed with bouts of anger, negging and calling me a bitch. I guess I must do something right because I've lost count of the number of exes who broke up with me and the ones I've broken up with- who looked me up several times after we broke up trying to get back together. I believe in the once and done principle- if the relationship ends its over and I tell people this upfront. Shitty people exist in all genders but you will never have a good relationship unless you are happy with yourself and know how to treat others well.
I can honestly say I am the average man. I work trying to get by. I'm single, no friends really. Only time I leave my home is to work or go to the grocery store. Yeah I'm pretty much the average dude just trying to survive, I don't even bother talking to women most times out of the simple fact I do not want the police called on me for just speaking to someone. So Yeah I get angry at work, I get tired of dealing with others relatively quickly. And friendship to me at this point feels like a burden because the only people I socialize with are at my job and they always will want something in return. Generally speaking I'm alone and on my own most of the time.

I do feel for men nowadays. Women are only interested in a man who has lots of money, a car and a house. I know two who were like that, one has never settled down, I think she is more than likely too demanding, and the other is happily married. Two sisters related to me. Their father, ( my brother) was left out because he wasn't good enough, he didn't have his own business, he was in the navy then a firefighter until he retired at fifty, then died around three years later. Our family was not good enough and they never wanted anything to do with any of his side of the family. Sad, but I got over it, no one is better than us us, just because we are not rich.
I was starting to feel this for some time and what I did was deactivate my facebook and twitter. I don't experience this sort of hate irl. I think social media has skewed our view of the world because people express their deepest darkest thoughts online, but I really don't think most of them act on it in the real world. I've found that most people are respectful and cool if you're respectful and cool.

Algorithms encourage and promote “hot takes” on issues, wether people actually agree with them or not. Which like you pointed out, I don’t think most of the nasty things said online would ever be said in a face to face conversation. We are losing SO much when we aren’t communicating face to face. No body language, no tone, no cadence, none of those things that help us “read” a situation and/or person. Getting married young isn’t a bad thing. The maturity of the people involved is more important. My wife and I got engaged at 20, married at 21. Been married 6 years and have an adopted son. The way people go about dating is the bigger issue. I knew everything I needed to know on the first date. Having the same values and beliefs and the will to make things work outside the minor differences is all you need.

Being single and childfree doesn't equal loneliness. Just because for someone having a family unit (being in a couple and having kids) is the best thing that ever happened to them, it doesn't mean that this is the reality for everyone. So many people are in relationships where they feel lonely while others who live alone never feel lonely. We need a social network and friends but that doesn't mean we need to have our own family unit. Some friends are more valuable than some family members.

What a sad thing we are teaching young children... I am 33 and alone, and I guess I fall into the group of lonely guys. I know I want family and to have purpose. But so far I was unsuccessful in finding woman to have family with. It sounds kinda sad but all I have left is hope that I will manage to find someone soon. Which I don't believe is good at all. Being an unemployed reclusive man with no income, this makes me feel a little bit better that i am not alone in my loneliness. The only thing worth living for for me is just to see everything get worse.

I dont even remember typing this reply. Thanks for the encouraging and supportive replies. Yes, I abused marijuana for a long time as far as psychedelics, it's honestly at least 80% of the reason why I felt so low for so long. I craved it for a lot of years when I couldn't get it cheaply and easily, ever since I first tried it like 25 years ago, and had more than a few long stints of regular use over the years that fueled a lot of the fondest memories I have of my 20s. They always ended in relative disaster for me though. It was legalized in my state about 2 years ago, and I started using it daily after a few months of it being legal because it was what I wanted to do more than anything. I dont regret it, i needed to do it, but I dont look at marijauana the same way after having taken a short break and getting back into it about 2 months ago, feeling nothing but "high" as I noticed my heart was racing like I was in the middle of a marathon. Noticing my heart rate was elevated from marijuana wasnt new to me, but it was a moment of a reflexive physical "self-awareness" induced by paranoia. I came to realize over the last month+ that all marijuana probably did was mask a depression that was at times partly induced from the unwillingness to accept marijauana withdrawal as a real thing. Of course, your mileage may vary, but I used to think the withdrawal wasnt a thing for years because I was conditioned to not question the supremacy of the high and the mind altering "benefits." Mj is still great in a sense, I always felt that it often made me see my self and my actions in a novel way when my tolerance wasn't through the roof, and it did at least somewhat. More than a few times it caused me to reevaluate how I approach my life and relationships in various ways, and that's why I was so drawn to using it so much. Now, I really question whether the self awareness I got out of it was genuine, or just that the high remedied a depression I couldnt control, and on top of that had the added effect of making all my ideas seem more valid and awesome because it prevented me from being overly critical of myself as I (and all of us) have been conditioned to do for years. It wasn't good. I was a nasty person for a long time and felt justified because i was either high or going through withdrawals. I regret speaking my mind when I got angry, because it rarely did any good anyway, even if I was angry over something valid. Probably worked against me in some/most instances. Things are looking up for me though, I ended up getting a job I really wanted to try out after applying and interviewing again. I was passed over for it earlier in the year probably because I looked like a washed up hippy seeing as how I was high all the time I didn't see myself the way others saw me. Negative opinions of me aren't bulletproof, but they aren't invalid either; the marijuana made me disregard them completely because I just knew how great I was when I was high, even if other people didn't see it. I am back to just being a sober "loser" like I was before marijuana decades ago, and its really not all that bad. I kind of abandoned the internet since it's so toxic. I don't feel like I am missing out anymore by not constantly being high and on the internet.

I dont handle alcohol well, so I am lucky to not have that as a dependency, but an old "friend" of mine has been struggling with that for years. He always said he "wanted a family," but when he got just that, and a wife that was finally mature and serious about a relationship, he ultimately couldnt give it up, and it even got worse from chasing an extravagant lifestyle rather than focusing on what was realistic when it came to having and nurturing a family. He stayed with me at night for quite a few months because his wife was livid with his inability to give up alcohol, and I tried to be supportive but he just refused to give it up. Probably still drinks. Last I heard he was in the process of getting his own place. He did some damage to MY life because of it. Lied about drinking to everyone. You've heard the story countless times, but when you see it in your own life, you see it more for what it is even if you want to be supportive. I really feel that he loves (I hope now it's "loved" but it's unlikely) alcohol more than the family he said he always wanted. 4 kids, two his own, and he was passing out every night while watching the youngest, unable to be roused from sleep. Going through withdrawal seizures while pumping gas. Wasting thousand of dollars over a few months on bottle after bottle of probably cheap liquor. I understand feeling like drugs are necessary if you look at my previous post, and I am grateful the powerful substance I ended up abusing wasnt physically addictive (nicotine is still a struggle for me, it will probably kill me), but it took really feeling it was necessary to give it up to truly do so. I dont want that to be all that I have to say to you, I am guessing you may be a little older than me if the numbers in your name are an indication of your birthday, but maybe the alcohol is more a source of your discontent than you realize. As far as being alone, I'm not really alone I guess, I have my brother even though I stopped hanging out with the few friends I had left. They were more a problem than I and culture at large would let me believe for years. We were all very negative for years regardless of our potential and whatever we did with our lives, and that informed how we viewed the world. That's probably confusing, but what I mean generally is it's tough to get out of the hole when the people who "support" you don't take what you have to say seriously because that's just their personality or they just think your a walking talking joke. A lot of people in my life just liked me because I was a jerk and said whatever was on my mind, especially when on drugs in a social situation, and thus never took anything I said seriously even when I was trying to be genuine. That affects how you feel about yourself even if you don't realize it, and it's no good for you OR them even if it makes them feel better that "well, at least I'm not as much of a mess as this guy," or "this guy needs a friend even though he is a mess, so I am going to be here for him because I'm so understanding and supportive." I genuinely hope things get better for you!
I recently got put on some medication and one of the side effects was it killed my sex drive and I seemed to not care as much about being single.. and I've honestly never been happier, all the desire to have a partner did was make me miserable as I simply don't have the social skills to find a partner.

There is a massive difference between being lonely and being alone. People have this strange notion that people who are alone are lonely, when in reality being alone rids you of the constant pestering and nagging of people who want to try to save you because they believe you're in a depression spiral into oblivion created by simply being alone.

I had a father, grandfather, and uncles who were massive inspirations on how men should be. I guess it depends on the type of mother. My mom was a narcissistic alcoholic who drove my dad away and had a abusive relationship with my step dad who wasn't any different. Blaming and abusing me and my brothers for everything that fell apart from her actions. Telling me I had no value or worth and should have been aborted. I know others who were raised by single moms that actually made something of themselves with a trade skill or career and are mature responsible adults. My dad was hardly involved in my life and didn't teach me anything about being a male or life in general

I worked with a dude who once said, "Man, I wish someone would let a mountain lion loose in the office, just so I could feel alive." Dude was lonely and lacking purpose. And I could relate, the work we were doing was not fulfilling.
Damn! thats my attitude currently. Lately, I've been feeling flat. I feel trapped in routine. My office is very quiet, and my current role doesn't have a lot of social interaction. I'm just an ordinary salary man, who has a day job, does groceries and cooks. I'm 41, and I try my best to go to meetups and social events, but it seems harder connecting with people than it did a few years ago. I just feel like I'm doing an "ok" job, when I need to be doing better. It's much more competitive now. I need to be more extroverted, more confident and better looking to make friends and to date.
I do have a purpose. I want to aim for a better a job and move into an area where I feel more accepted. The hobbies and freelance work do help in this mission. I do hope that other men can find their purpose as well. I'm also glad people are understanding of our situation, rather than telling us to "man up".
You triggered a memory. My brother was overweight for his first 20 years of life, and he got sick of it, so he started going to the gym. He worked out a lot, tried different diets and supplements, and started smoking the wacky tobaccy at some point. He told me this story about how one night, he smoked a little, and went into the gym to do some running. On one of the TVs in the gym there was a news story about a cougar that had wandered into a residential neighborhood, and he just saw this image of a huge cat prowling across a yard in front of a house, and he said the combination of the image of that big cat, the metal music he was listening to, the slight high he was feeling, plus the feeling of being in the zone that comes from a good workout, his imagination grabbed him, and he imagined being there, running across the yard, and tackling and fighting that cougar. It was one of the most simultaneously hilarious, absurd, and badass things I’d ever heard of. 😂
Edit: and for the record, that became a thing my little brother wanted to do irl: become so badass he could defeat a cougar barehanded. And now I want to do it too.

I watched my 19 year old nephew flounder for 18 months after HS.Dropped out of College, and tech school. He seemed to have everything going for him too...tall , handsome strong but his head was just lost. He was depressed, angry, lonely no friends. And of course he kept it all bottled up.
Luckily my sister was strong enough to really push him enough and he joined to Coast Guard. Was the best thing he ever did.

One of my best friends has three kids, two boys and a girl the boys are 16 and 13 and little miss is 11. She said to me the other day that she never in a million years thought that raising her boys would be harder than raising a girl. This is terrifying. As I listen I realize that as I get older, I’m becoming much more reclusive. My friends are in other states. I spend an inordinate amount of time alone at home. When I date, I never get vulnerable with my girlfriend which ends up making all of my relationships quick. I honestly don’t see a way out of this hole. I used to be extremely social, but at 40 I’ll go days without talking to anyone. This world has become a dark place. I’m floundering to find purpose as an antidote to my despair.
If you’re in this hole too, I’ll pray for all of us and try to hold onto the hope we can find the ladder to get us out.
Community participation and meaningful emploment are very valuable. Look up "bowling alone".

Choose a charity or cause that means a lot to you and go volunteer. You’ll meet good people with similar interests and values and it will help you feel much better. Humans need certain things to be happy- a sense of community, achievable goals, etc. Good people do good things. Don’t let entitled superficial people in your circle. Everyone has comfort zones that shrink. Push against them.
I understand how you feel. I'm only 29 and I feel the same. Struggling to see any significant purpose for my existance on this planet. Go to God brother. Only he can give us purpose and only what we do in Jesus' name will last. Stay strong brother.
Relationship wise, I say be honest (after a reasonably appropriate amount of time - no ones attracted to people who put a mountain of sadness down off the bat). If you're partner isn't someone you can be honest with, it's a waste of a relationship. Find another. It's hard, but at least then the time is spent finding a good relationship, not spent investing in a bad one. At least, that's my take.
Similarly, I say go get some hobbies and find friends through them. Depending on where you are, finding people who aren't politically driven in their relationships can be hard, but I say ignore those people once again. Ignore the bad focus on the good. That's what I do. I have plenty of women who are... insane in my life, but having other people around who do agree with my opinions helps to ground me and remind me I'm not radical for disagreeing with them. Especially knowing my partner and I agree.

My husband and I both come from divorced parents. We lived together and had a son at 22 and 28. A year later, at 23 and 29, we got married. We've been together 21 years come February. I was married at 19 he was 20, and we're still together now at 39, and I would never change it, we have gone through a lot of struggles as most relationships but we have never given up on each other. People now are far too quick to give up.
Our son who is in his teens never had access to a phone or iPad type thing until he was 13, there is just no need for young children to have this. I cringe when I see kids in push chairs face in a device, you need to learn to be bored and find and make your own entertainment, kids won't do this with parents pushing devices in their hands.

I currently attend TAFE (Technical College for non-Australians) and the other day I was waiting, by myself, for the lift. The lift doors open, I step inside and press the button for my floor. Two people stop the lift doors and come in, a female and a trans person. The trans person accused me of being aggressive. I found my answer to all of this "It's all your fault" stuff and the loneliness. I just don't care anymore; I can feel my heart as cold as ice regarding love and friendship. I'm glad that this is at last, being touched upon. I've been suffering from Psychogenic Pain Disorder (even though the use of that term is outdated) stemming from the psychological and verbal abuse I've received in public and in my home, for years now. The scorn and hate I have received over the past few years, that I'm not strong, smart, fast, funny, attractive, tall, talented or otherwise, in everybody's eyes apparently, has been debilitating. To the point where every time I see a happy couple in public, I have to hold onto the nearest object or railing to prevent myself from collapsing to the floor entirely, due to the intensity of the pain. It's cold, disabling and debilitating, I feel exhausted even though I've done nothing to exert myself, or freezing even though I literally live in a desert. I've lost so many friends since my graduation and acceptance into college, including the first woman I ever professed my love to in confidence, and even here I don't feel welcome. I hope that sooner rather than later, my pain as well as many others' who are unable to go anywhere, or say or do anything without being looked at like a freak will know peace.

Reclusion sneaks up on you. I don't even know how or when it happened. It wasn't conscious and I can't even remember how it happened. I used to be social with a healthy dating life. Then one day I was working from home, hadn't dated for years and had no friends left. I buy everything online so really the only people I see now are delivery guys. Ngl you definitely sound like a couple of my exs who were so insecure about themselves- specifically their height in comparison to me that they ended up negging the hell out of me till I left. Im 5'10 and the shortest I ever dated was 5'2 and why I left was never their height- it was how I was being treated. Many of them basically demanded I not wear heels and would pick at my looks in other ways and the topics I would bring up(I'm artsy and ADHD so I like loud colors and random information and they all knew this going into it- to sum me up well my one ex once told me "I have never met someone I have so much and so little in common."). The worst one of them I had initially really like as he also likes Ansel Adams(Photographer) but eventually talking to him got to a point that he was acusing me of trying to make him feel dumb/belittle him(which was 100% not what I was doing and a red flag to me) so I ended it- initially I didn't block him on social media but I did in the end because he started stalking me and trying to get me to get back with him telling me he was sorry over several months mixed with bouts of anger, negging and calling me a bitch. I guess I must do something right because I've lost count of the number of exes who broke up with me and the ones I've broken up with- who looked me up several times after we broke up trying to get back together. I believe in the once and done principle- if the relationship ends its over and I tell people this upfront.

I can honestly say I am the average man. I work trying to get by. I'm single, no friends really. Only time I leave my home is to work or go to the grocery store. I do feel for men nowadays. Women are only interested in a man who has lots of money, a car and a house. I know two who were like that, one has never settled down, I think she is more than likely too demanding, and the other is happily married. Two sisters related to me. Their father, ( my brother) was left out because he wasn't good enough, he didn't have his own business, he was in the navy then a firefighter until he retired at fifty, then died around three years later. Getting married young isn’t a bad thing. The maturity of the people involved is more important. My wife and I got engaged at 20, married at 21. Been married 6 years and have an adopted son. The way people go about dating is the bigger issue. I knew everything I needed to know on the first date. Having the same values and beliefs and the will to make things work outside the minor differences is all you need.

Being single and childfree doesn't equal loneliness. Just because for someone having a family unit (being in a couple and having kids) is the best thing that ever happened to them, it doesn't mean that this is the reality for everyone. So many people are in relationships where they feel lonely while others who live alone never feel lonely. We need a social network and friends but that doesn't mean we need to have our own family unit. Some friends are more valuable than some family members.

I dont even remember typing this reply. Thanks for the encouraging and supportive replies. Yes, I abused marijuana for a long time as far as psychedelics, it's honestly at least 80% of the reason why I felt so low for so long. I craved it for a lot of years when I couldn't get it cheaply and easily, ever since I first tried it like 25 years ago, and had more than a few long stints of regular use over the years that fueled a lot of the fondest memories I have of my 20s. They always ended in relative disaster for me though. It was legalized in my state about 2 years ago, and I started using it daily after a few months of it being legal because it was what I wanted to do more than anything. I dont regret it, i needed to do it, but I dont look at marijauana the same way after having taken a short break and getting back into it about 2 months ago, feeling nothing but "high" as I noticed my heart was racing like I was in the middle of a marathon. Noticing my heart rate was elevated from marijuana wasnt new to me, but it was a moment of a reflexive physical "self-awareness" induced by paranoia. I came to realize over the last month+ that all marijuana probably did was mask a depression that was at times partly induced from the unwillingness to accept marijauana withdrawal as a real thing. Of course, your mileage may vary, but I used to think the withdrawal wasnt a thing for years because I was conditioned to not question the supremacy of the high and the mind altering "benefits."
Mj is still great in a sense, I always felt that it often made me see my self and my actions in a novel way when my tolerance wasn't through the roof, and it did at least somewhat. More than a few times it caused me to reevaluate how I approach my life and relationships in various ways, and that's why I was so drawn to using it so much. Now, I really question whether the self awareness I got out of it was genuine, or just that the high remedied a depression I couldnt control, and on top of that had the added effect of making all my ideas seem more valid and awesome because it prevented me from being overly critical of myself as I (and all of us) have been conditioned to do for years.
It wasn't good. I was a nasty person for a long time and felt justified because i was either high or going through withdrawals. I regret speaking my mind when I got angry, because it rarely did any good anyway, even if I was angry over something valid. Probably worked against me in some/most instances. Things are looking up for me though, I ended up getting a job I really wanted to try out after applying and interviewing again. I was passed over for it earlier in the year probably because I looked like a washed up hippy seeing as how I was high all the time I didn't see myself the way others saw me. Negative opinions of me aren't bulletproof, but they aren't invalid either; the marijuana made me disregard them completely because I just knew how great I was when I was high, even if other people didn't see it.
I am back to just being a sober "loser" like I was before marijuana decades ago, and its really not all that bad. I kind of abandoned the internet since it's so toxic. I don't feel like I am missing out anymore by not constantly being high and on the internet.

If I could offer one piece of advice, stop drinking. I dont handle alcohol well, so I am lucky to not have that as a dependency, but an old "friend" of mine has been struggling with that for years. He always said he "wanted a family," but when he got just that, and a wife that was finally mature and serious about a relationship, he ultimately couldnt give it up, and it even got worse from chasing an extravagant lifestyle rather than focusing on what was realistic when it came to having and nurturing a family. He stayed with me at night for quite a few months because his wife was livid with his inability to give up alcohol, and I tried to be supportive but he just refused to give it up. Probably still drinks. Last I heard he was in the process of getting his own place. He did some damage to MY life because of it. Lied about drinking to everyone. You've heard the story countless times, but when you see it in your own life, you see it more for what it is even if you want to be supportive.
I really feel that he loves (I hope now it's "loved" but it's unlikely) alcohol more than the family he said he always wanted. 4 kids, two his own, and he was passing out every night while watching the youngest, unable to be roused from sleep. Going through withdrawal seizures while pumping gas. Wasting thousand of dollars over a few months on bottle after bottle of probably cheap liquor. I understand feeling like drugs are necessary if you look at my previous post, and I am grateful the powerful substance I ended up abusing wasnt physically addictive (nicotine is still a struggle for me, it will probably kill me), but it took really feeling it was necessary to give it up to truly do so.
I dont want that to be all that I have to say to you, I am guessing you may be a little older than me if the numbers in your name are an indication of your birthday, but maybe the alcohol is more a source of your discontent than you realize. As far as being alone, I'm not really alone I guess, I have my brother even though I stopped hanging out with the few friends I had left. They were more a problem than I and culture at large would let me believe for years. We were all very negative for years regardless of our potential and whatever we did with our lives, and that informed how we viewed the world. That's probably confusing, but what I mean generally is it's tough to get out of the hole when the people who "support" you don't take what you have to say seriously because that's just their personality or they just think your a walking talking joke. A lot of people in my life just liked me because I was a jerk and said whatever was on my mind, especially when on drugs in a social situation, and thus never took anything I said seriously even when I was trying to be genuine. That affects how you feel about yourself even if you don't realize it, and it's no good for you OR them even if it makes them feel better that "well, at least I'm not as much of a mess as this guy," or "this guy needs a friend even though he is a mess, so I am going to be here for him because I'm so understanding and supportive." I genuinely hope things get better for you!
I recently got put on some medication and one of the side effects was it killed my sex drive and I seemed to not care as much about being single.. and I've honestly never been happier, all the desire to have a partner did was make me miserable as I simply don't have the social skills to find a partner.
The irony is that that video was the first ShoeOnHead video I had ever seen, and I immediately subscribed after watching it, which led me to other channels talking about men's mental health and eventually to your channel. Everything coming full circle now lol.
There is a massive difference between being lonely and being alone. People have this strange notion that people who are alone are lonely, when in reality being alone rids you of the constant pestering and nagging of people who want to try to save you because they believe you're in a depression spiral into oblivion created by simply being alone.
You and her should get to get together and talk about male issues and ways to fight back against theses horrible people

She hit the nail on the head. Men have to look outside of real/their life to find inspiration. Thats why comic book heroes and celebrities speaking for them resonate so well.
I had a father, grandfather, and uncles who were massive inspirations on how men should be. It helps, but if someone grew up in a broken home without anything but female guidance, they end up messed up for the gritty world we live in.

I guess it depends on the type of mother. My mom was a narcissistic alcoholic who drove my dad away and had a abusive relationship with my step dad who wasn't any different. Blaming and abusing me and my brothers for everything that fell apart from her actions. Telling me I had no value or worth and should have been aborted. I know others who were raised by single moms that actually made something of themselves with a trade skill or career and are mature responsible adults. My dad was hardly involved in my life and didn't teach me anything about being a male or life in general

I work in hospitlaity and the number of parents I've seen just dump their kid in front of a screen for hours during their meal/wedding/function etc is shocking.
