    Hi Everyone! This video gives a general idea of your skin type. Remember, skin can be complicated, so you can have a lot more happening and that’s normal!

    Holy cow! I had NO IDEA you could have a normal skin type and still be acne prone! That’s ME! I’m not oily, no dry patches. My skin felt great but it looked awful - acne 24/7, red patches, uneven skin tone ugh! So I thought I was oily because of all my acne, then I thought I was dry because my skin likes light oils, then I found out about damaged moisture barriers ✨✨✨ Focusing on repairing my moisture barrier transformed my skin. It’s sooo much healthier now. But I still never realized it was normal all this time! Normal (balanced sebum production), just damaged. Wow!

    Team oily skin here haha ! It started when I hit puberty developing into acné prone skin that luckely settled down when I turned 25. I used to work in skincare industry and found out that the most simple of routine and products work best for me. Count myself lucky now with the oilyness, people often think I'm still in my early 30s when actually approaching mid 40s ;) Love your channel Susan, keeps me well updated and refreshed.

Because the weather is changing and I live where it gets to below zero weather, I just started a new routine this week with retinol and a toner with HA and galactomyces from cosrx. after I've cleansed and leave it dry for about an hour, my skin feels a little tight but my nose and the skin above my lips is especially dry, but I think it's because it's winter. When I apply moisturizer, and when it comes to the end of the day it feels oily. I'm really confused about my skintype:(

      I’m 41 and I say try any product you find interest in. Our skincare can be so personal, it’s a lot of trial and error. Figure out if you like fragrance or not, what textures you like, what actually gives you results (not just everyone else), etc. I haven’t tried Honest Beauty, but I personally feel it is overpriced for the basic ingredients that can be found in any drugstore skincare product. My holy grail moisturizer is the Neutrogena HydroBoost Gel Cream Fragrance Free for Dry/Extra Dry Skin.

    So if I understand this right (3:58) I could have dehydrated skin?
    I think am a typical combo skin with dry cheeks and super oily t-zone. Every day as the day goes by I always need to wipe my t-zone with paper, it looks and feels like I drenched it in oil! Its even worse if I have makeup on.
    But after a shower I have to put moisturiser on pretty quickly or else I get really dry and tight all over face and body.
    Now I am confused.

      I’d guess it’s acne prone dry skin. Acne can be caused by other factors (like hormones), not only excess oil. I’d look for rich moisturizers and some treatment for the acne, like adapalene or benzoyl peroxide. The tricky part is that these actives can dry out the skin even more, so I’m not absolutely sure haha

    great video thank you ! I have one question in regards to determining your skin type after cleansing your skin ( what if you have oily skin but you are using a drying striping cleanser, your skin will feel tight and dry ) but in reality you are oily not dry . sorry i hope I'm making sense

    • @SusanYara
      @SusanYara 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes sense! The first time you use a cleanser, it shouldn’t make a huge difference in your skin type. If you’ve been using a cleanser that strips your skin for a while, then it could mess it up, but the question then is, why are you using a cleanser that strips? 😜

    Is it possible to have dry skin and be acne prone? I've struggled with acne since I was a teen but my skin has definitely been on the dry end since entering my 20s. I always hear acne is mainly caused by excess sebum but I rarely hear dry, acne prone skin as a possibility

    • @gracebosley8802
      @gracebosley8802 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m by no means a skin care expert, but I think you can. I always had acne prone skin and so I used products for oily skin. Then I went to an aesthetician who told me I had normal, but very dehydrated skin. This meant the skin compensated for the lack of moisture by creating more sebum, causing acne. After that I switched to more hydrating products meant for normal or dry skin, and it really improved. Again, I’m not an expert but that’s my experiance:

    I've started to look after my skin properly only since lockdown, having been so positively influenced by people like Hyram, James, Michelle and yourself. I'm 39yo with acneic, super oily skin. And strangely enough since I've been using niacinamide which all skincare influencers love so much, I've developed a severe dehydration and irritation on my skin. To the point I was prescribed a topical antibiotic for a perioral dermatitis.
    I've been using only non-DA and non fragranced products (mainly from Facetheory or the Ordinary), appropriate corde my skin type, and long story short - the only pattern I can see for why I've developed that condition (which is now SOOO hard top fight!) is niacinamide!
    I have gone off of any cosmetics with that ingredient, and it's already slowly getting better!
    I was really surprised to learn that sth so highly recommended actually was not a great idea for my skin :(

    • @simonatecsa8773
      @simonatecsa8773 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you mix it with something else? I remember someone saying The Ordinary Niacinamide can't be used with some products because of the formulation, I think one of them was mixing it with a Vitamin C product

    • @rileypaigemc7018
      @rileypaigemc7018 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s rare, but there are a group of ppl who really cannot handle Niacinamide. It’s like an allergen for them, so they can’t use it or can only use a lil bit. I’m in thst category. My sunscreen has Niacinamide but if I use a high concentration of multiple products that contain it, then I start to burn and itch. No bueno.

At night I also tried to focus on rubbing a bit more of my moisturiser around that area. This is what I did and by no means does that mean nthat you should do what I did or anything.

    is 30 minutes enough time to see how your skin behaves?

    • @bshows89
      @bshows89 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had this very same question, so I decided to see if anyone had asked it before I posted. I think of myself as having oily skin, but 30 minutes isn't enough time for me to produce enough oil to have visible sheen. Usually I'm shiny by midday and literally oily to the touch by the end of the day. 30 minutes might be enough time to tell you have dry skin, but it's not enough to know you have oily skin in my experience.
