When it was originally on I was a kid and not interested……came across it again a few years ago and binge watched it…..absolutely fantastic on every level…..
The best series ive ever seen, top actors, real drama, it was tragedy that John Nightingale died so young. I wish James Bolam would discuss this series.
Have you tried Madalaine Newton, Roselind Bailey, Michelle' Newton, Geoffrey Rose or Isla Blair? They are still alive sad you missed Malcolm Terris, James Garbutt and the lovely Jean Heywood all died not long ago!
My fondest memory of Ms Jameson was in Coronation street in the early 60s I was only eight what do you remember having a bit of a crush on her ha ha great to see you again
Fantastic series for so many reasons. Still watch it to this day. Ironically she was my least favourite actor in it, always felt she over acted, whereas the others were so natural. That said, in comparison to what we are offered today, she was brilliant. Peaky Blinders tries to achieve much the same impact, with a massive budget by comparison, and it is very good, but not a patch on this.
I always wondered why didn't the crew get Geordie women to play the parts and Geordie men? Why get upper middle class people with really bad Geordie accents to play the parts, this leads to the north being ignored and treat like idiots yet again when acting was the way forward yet they used middle class London people...
This to me was one of the finest series ever written, the actors were outstanding, i would love to see more series like this.

Fantastic actors , I remember watching “When The Boat Comes In” as kid in the 1970s. Brilliant show.
Far more social realism and political awareness than anything made now. Kudos!
And sadly used extremely wealthy London people to try to talk Geordie and all failed terribley. Not one sounds Geordie
I purchased the full series as a boxed set, the only purchase I have ever made worth much more than the money given.

Suprised Talking Pictures TV hasn't repeated the series. Be worth it.

When The Boat Comes In was a brilliant drama series that I put high in acting and storylines.
Susan is a great actor in to serve me all my days. One of the best bbc tv dramas I have seen .similar to Tom brown school days.
Was she playing an upper class woman? I know she is a Londoner but has no Geordie accent at all.

regardless of where they were from it was a great series and the acting was amazing
Loved the series hate the theme tune got on my nerves that irritating song .
