I love the container competitions. However, can we use other flowers than the superbells and tunics? They're lovely, but I would just like to see other plants such as celosia, ageratum , geraniums, dipadenia, fushias, zinnias. Thanks hon. Love ur shows

Putting a request in early for MONTHLY LONG FORM GARDEN TOURS over the growing season. we know you don't like doing them unless everything's looking great but we love learning from all the various stages of what's happening in your garden. It doesn't matter if everything's in perfect condition it's helpful for us to see how things change from month to month over the season... and that includes all the tearing apart and construction you're going to be doing in the main space! It's inspirational for us.

I have a border of dianthus that provides color from spring until frost. When they start to look tired and spent I just go in and shear off the top 1-2” and in a couple weeks or so I get another flush of beautiful color. Love them.

Good to know! I have this odd little strip of dirt next to my deck and I thought Dianthus might be perfect, but I don't know much about them. I was going to give them a try this year.

You have no idea how much I needed this video. My husband and I, decided to redo our front yard in 2020. New front stoop, new retaining wall, new door and new HUGE flower beds! My desire in terms of gardening is to have a variety of ornamental grasses with a few small bushes (that stay green during the winter) and ground cover plants here and there. All of this keeping in mind that pollinators are my top priority. Thanks for this video!! And please do another one on ornamental grass!! ✨✨✨✨✨😘

You have so much knowledge of plants! I moved to North Carolina from Texas, 10 years ago. I’m adding more plants to our Garden, mostly Native plants. There are a few on your list that are Native here. I know the Phlox and Day Lillies do well here. We also have some of the perennial Salvia in our yard. I hope to try some of the plants that we mentioned.
A good part of our front and back yard is mostly shade. We need mostly plants for shade, or part sun. Very little of our yard is full sun. We have a pool that takes up a lot of room. There’s a flower bed around the pool that’s full sun. We like colorful flowers, like Hibiscus, around the pool.
We have Indian Hawthorns around the pool, for shade.
We have tall, Leland Cypress Trees around the fence.
I also have many types of Vines, growing on the house and on Arbors.

It takes the heat, drought, and humidity but still gives back with beautiful blooms and, as Laura said, the pollinators adore it - - well into cold weather. My advice on pruning them back is just make yourself a cup of chamomile tea and relax! Get your Zen on ! It isn't surgery, and if you do loose a bud or two they will make more. They really give you a lot in terms of color and texture , and are so worth it.

I absolutely love the hardy hibiscus. I bought five of the dwarf version last year. The swirl, the summerific berry awesome, and a couple more I can't remember one is white with a magenta center. Congrats on baby SG and happy to see new flowers. can't wait to see what y'all do this season. We have big plans for raised beds and a veggie garden this year in the backyard. Thanks for your inspiration.

Love 💓 the phlox colors. So many options for this year. Very exciting but we still have snow ❄️ and more is coming to Michigan. Dreaming about spring gets me through the cold winter. Russell is doing his thing, doesn't need to sit right next to mom. Stay safe.

So impressed that all or almost all are quite hardy. As for dianthus, I do shear when a number of flowers are spent. I do shear off buds but the foliage is so great I don’t mind. I grow these only in a raised stone garden where they happily reseed in the nooks and crannies.

What a comprehensive presentation, thank you! Have my list ready to order. I, too, have had the same experience with dianthus as you. Do let your baptisia form seed pods. They are pretty, almost black, look great in dried arrangements. They sound nice when shaken, as well.

Hiya Laura and Aaron , could it be possible to do a Heuchera clean up video? I have quite a few but I’m not sure how to tidy them up. I just dead head them and take off the dead leaves, are you suppose to do anything else to them? I fell in love with them after watching your vids and what you do with them. Thank you for being a big inspiration 💜

Really getting anxious to see some new growth. Today I am going to try and divide some grasses and move some plants since it's not supposed to rain today (western Washington). Great video and very inspirational!

Better to move plants when it is going to rain. Good luck I'm sure they will be fine.

I had Firewitch Dianthus for years, and they did very well, even though the ants tried to bury them. I have very sandy, acidic soil in northern Indiana. I got rid of the ants by sprinkling compost in the plant area and I'd let them go to seed and sprinkled the seeds within the plant every year. They probably would have died out if I hadn't done that. They mysteriously died out 2 years ago when the flowers didn't seed up. Maybe a decrease in pollinators?
I think I'd love to get the Jacob's Ladder plant, might be pretty with my double flowering orange poppies, sounds like they might bloom at the same time. You listed so many choices! I have a lot of dry shade and deer, so the struggle is real to keep plants looking like eye candy and not deer candy.

Leaf structure is really important in the shade. When I had limited full sun, I craved it. Now that I have lots of full sun, I'm more inclined to concentrate on my part sun areas, go figure!
If I had unlimited funds, I'd go crazy on my full sun slope to the road though. It's just a little too steep to keep mowed. There's lots of natives there, for now, I'll encourage them & try to keep the blackberry & honeysuckle restrained. It's ALWAYS a process when you garden!
