    I read in the husaberg forum that sand can enter the weep hole and cause excessive wear on the water pump shaft. This happened to me so I made a little plastic flap to go over it that will let coolant out but also keep sand from entering.

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Long Zee it’s possible I suppose. Most of the information I found is that the seal just wears the shaft a bit. Unfortunate design. Double seals seemed to work for me.

    I have owned a few bergs in my time . They don't like being cold started off electric start , the electric start was only to be used when the engine is upto temperature and if you can't use your kick start because your stuck on a cliff or balls deep in mud .. you can upgrade the start to a R1 stater that will strike the bike from cold but will take its toll on the sprag clutch .. if you need any help or advice feel free to ask

    I own 4 Bergs. There is a kickstarter on it, that is the starter. The button is an aux starter so stop trying to cold start it. Quirky yes, but actually dead reliable for a race bike. No, its not a honda, but it surely will smoke one because it's race bike!
    Adjust the valves often (it's easy) and change the oil and you're good. Change the conical valve springs to dual spring from ktm 450smr and keep an eye on the oil magnet. Big flakes? Either poor shifting rider or main bearings are going south.

      Tom i am from Sweden. The Swedish real fish everyone is talking about is called surströmming. Fermented herring 😅 smells worse than a horses ass but with greater teaste 🙂👌. Do a search here on youtube for surströmming challenge and you will get allot of funny videos of people trying it. Btw Husaberg dominated the endurocene in the 90's they was a quite big brand back in the day. Ktm bought first husaberg then Husqvarna. And after 2014 ktm only uses husqvarna brand. But you will find the husaberginovations on some of the Husqvarna today even on ktms 🙂👌 husaberg made a totally new standard for the 4 stroke machines back in the day. The lightest and most powerfull of its time. The downside of those in the 90s was that they was super expensive compared to the other top brands almost 20% higher price for them. Because they didnt cut down on quality on anything on Theese bikes. Offcourse they have their eastereggs of trouble like your waterpump. But hey it was 19 years old too 😂

As I understand you did some research so you shouldn't have made those patch up fixes. A new water pump shaft goes a long way (400+hrs in my FS 650) . If you have a 2005+berg seted up right it will be dead reliable with only fluids and recommend valve checks as per manual. But I also understand that your friend got it cheap so maybe he didn't want to spend the money or the time. Hope the next owner is the right man.

      Indeed, I have had some 13 'Bergs and by far they're the best ever made if in the right hands that know how to fix/maintain them.. This particular one in the vid likely needs carb work to fix the rough start/running issue, that FCR carb was imported with the accelerator pump turned way too high for EPA standards, so if you altered the jets/air screw without turning it down then it will never run properly.. Not to mention todays fuel blends eat pilot jets if a bike sits for more than a few weeks..

    But you get sooo fxxxx angry on all the small problems all the time...the starter here in your movie its nothing wrong whith it ..they made Them to work as a help when you kickstart THE motor in the early modells...from 2005..2006 they got better Whit an real electric start and mucho better carburator.
    Its People from Husqvarna who made them in an small factory when cagiva bought husqvarna.
    Its bettermade old qvarnas we can say.
