    Thuy, I wish I could like more than once! That is so easy. Wish I had a boat! I have seen these hoops drift into the pylons at the pier too often and get snagged on the pylons too often to use one there.
    I enjoy making my own gear too.
    My wife would kill me if I ever bent the rebar on the floor!!
    I am lucky enough to have a couple shops with cement floors.

    Wow, that's a sturdy custom-made crab hoop. It’s way better than the ones that you buy at the West Marine or Amazon. It’s totally cost effective and it gives you more options to do whatever you like i.e add additional weights inside the PVCs to keep it submerged without spending extra money on clumsy leads, etc. Very clever Brother Thuy. As fishing/crabbing regulations keep changing every year, you just can’t throw your hard-earned money at the problem by spending more $$$$ on new gear. You have got to adapt and be creative to make your own gear. Great job Brother and keep up those great vids coming.

      Thanks for watching. I really spent only $20 for a trap because I bought everything in bulk. $10 for 20' 1/2" rebars, 5'x20' net for $170 (can make 25 hoops), cheap zip tie, and $5 for 1/2 pvc

      @MaverickFishing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Fishing247 makes total sense and honestly, I didn't mean in a negative way. I meant to emphasize that it's a great idea and DIY allows for more modifications, plus cost effectiveness.
      When I said "more like $40", i was going of off "not bulk" retail cost. Either way - it does not matter :) Great option and way to go!

      Size 3 (3/8) 20’ rebar at Home Depot is only $5.48. I thought you stated that you used #3 rebar, not #4 like you listed above. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @MaverickFishing
      @MaverickFishing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MSGFishingHuntingPros definitely a typo on his end. He meant 3/8 and not 1/2 rebar. Which makes this project even cheaper. I just realized that I've been overpaying for my rebar. Thanks for listing the price here. I've been buying 10' for $5.37 and 20' is $5.48. What a rip off and price difference makes no sense! 10 extra feet for only 11 cents extra? I am on my way to HD to buy 20' that i need for my backyard now!

    So for people looking to get supplies, 3 10 foot pieces of rebar, 1 piece of 10 foot 1/2 inch PVC, and the plastic chicken wire comes to a little under $60 at home depot and you get 2 hoop nets out of it. A little more if you get the extra rebar for weight. One piece of the 3/8 rebar will yield the 2 top rings. To put it in perspective if you were to buy this, you'd be spending at least $50 each hoop net of this style. Last time I priced it, came out to $120 plus tax for 2 pots.
    For crabbers on a budget looking to feed their families, as my late grandfather used hunting and fishing to do when he was dirt poor, this is the better option.

    • @Fishing247
      @Fishing247  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rafael,. Thanks for watching.
      I spent an average of $20 per hoops because I purchased in bulk. I bought 20ft rebar instead of 10ft.

    • @pdsCV
      @pdsCV 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fishing247 ahh! Good to know. Since I bought a truck to tow my boat and protect my prius, I didn't have the resources to buy in bulk. Even so, on a per pot basis it's pretty close. Especially since I'm likely to get more than 2 pots out of the plastic chicken netting.

    • @pdsCV

    Just got update from DFG - The recreational take of Dungeness crab using crab traps in Fishing Zones 3 and 4, (from the Sonoma/Mendocino county line to Lopez Point) will be temporarily restricted when the season opens on Nov. 6 due to presence of humpback whales and leatherback sea turtles and the potential for entanglement from trap gear.
    But is says it also says - Recreational take of Dungeness crab by other methods, including hoop nets and crab snares, is not affected by the temporary trap restriction and is allowed statewide beginning Nov. 6, 2021
    So are these nets and the old style round ring nets legal from a boat starting Nov 6? Do you just tie a line to a buoy and drop in ocean?
