    I have hEDS and bought myself a pair of (purple - yes, they come in lots of colours!) SmartCrutches after using walking sticks put too much pressure on my wrist and caused injury.
    The only drawback is that they are quite top-heavy and fall over, but I think all crutches do that!!!
    I love them and added a Flexi-foot to each one which, for me, improved the stability further.
    Highly recommended!

      Hi there, what a lovely name for your YT profile - The Art of Blossoming - really made me smile!
      Thanks for commenting on the crutches. I agree, they are top heavy, but they do don a great job.
      Thanks for the tip on the Flexi-Foot, Ill look into it for sure.

    i am taking my wife to the hospital today for high aka. we've spent a lifetime together -25 years -considering this decision. like you she has suffered a myriad of health and pyschological issues from bones breaking, osteomyelitis, cellulitis, septicemia, inability to move knee and ankle and finally, perhaps the worst, the anxiety of always wondering "when the next shoe would drop".
    i wish i had come across this sooner. it helps. and people like you do make a difference. and your contribution and help, while perhaps not affecting large numbers of people- positively impacts the life of certain people in a significant way- in a disproportionately helpful way. most amputees find themselves amputees after accidents or are forced when facing a life threatening situation. for the remainder, like you and my wife, the decision presents with the consequences as an optional choice and all the attending ramifications of doubt and possible regret.
    i have to go now. please know you have helped one man on what will certainly prove to be one of the hardest days of my life. for that i thank you. s

      Dear Stephen, thank you for your kind words and thoughtful message.
      Your reflection will help someone else who might be feeling lost or not sure how to proceed, which is really what I was hoping we could do as an amputee and amputee support community.
      From my heart I wish you and your wife the best possible outcomes going forward. I have experienced that the loss and pain have positively contributed to my life experience in ways I would never have thought possible. I truly hope the same for you.
      Please keep in touch, I will be doing live streaming soon with Q&A real time. This way we can share our experiences and solutions with each other in the moment.
      Wishing you the best.
      Much care, Chris

    I have cerebral palsy so I've been using these crutches for about 3 years they are probably the best crutches I've ever had I've dropped them I've knocked them over and everything and nothing's ever happened to them and they're a lot easier to get around than elbow crutches because the weight distributes through the crutch and gives you more support I hope my review helps somebody

    I purchased mine in 2015 when I desperately needed crutch but couldn't handle conventional crutches having a stuffed shoulder. Also being elderly stability was also a great considering as having bi-lat TKRs I fractured my femur. This meant my femur was like Swiss cheese following the repair with a plate and screws. Sadly the plate damaged my ITB and it had to be repaired late in 2016, including removal of the hardware. Again my femur bone was very much like Swiss cheese. Each time I was required to be off my leg between 3 to 6 months each time while the bone was regenerating.
    My Orthopaedic was amazed when he first saw them and fully approved, seeing the great advantages they offered. As my TKRs are 21.5 years old, revision isn't that far away, as one TKR is currently being assessed.
    While these don't come cheap, how much do you value being able to have safe mobility. I know from previous experience that I can not cope on conventional crutches.

    Your inspirational and attractive on multiple levels. Thanks for the video. Just got these for sesamoiditis and twisted my right foot walking to fetch the box with these as the grass was very wet, and I heard a pop, pop as my high arch foot popped out of the Mary Jane type shoe. Pretty sure I broke two bones. Will have xrayed tomorrow, and damn happy I have these and a walking boot, although I can't weight bear even in the walking boot until xrayed. Will update after using them.

      @@theampedlife I've been looking at reviews of these (for a permanent disability), and it looks like they're doing some adjustments to inventory or something regarding selling crutches here in the US? There's a message on their website about being out of stock for both Midi and Maxi sizes. They also just changed (added to) their sizing in the UK, so I wonder if they will do that in the US as well?
      Also what size crutches do you use in the video? I'm assuming the Maxi ones.

    2:11....OMG thank you. I always shudder when I see amputees hopping around...then say how bad their sound leg and hip are. In fact, I mentioned that to Cairn Atkinson (AKA 'the smooth hopper') and she got into a tizzy and I ended up unsubscribing from her channel. My doctor does not want me on my sound leg...it will cause issues. Can you close the cuff?

    • @theampedlife
      @theampedlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah hopping is not the greatest idea for many reasons, sometimes its the only way.
      The cuff can't close but it is quite rigid and hold well.
      Thanks for the question Morgan! I see you regularly comment, I appreciate that.

    • @morgancalvi6675
      @morgancalvi6675 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theampedlife sorry, hit down button by mistake. I was having a conversation with Cairn Atkinson because she is mad at the world and thinks hopping is the best idea because her doctor and physical therapist said it's ok (um, how can it even...they just want money for return visits)...amd she complained to a Sherri Ann Day on a Facebook group we both are in (I didn't even know it) and got me kicked out of the Faceboo group. I really didn't do anything wrong. If she's mad at the world...well, it's sad she is going to hurt herself.

    I’ve had my smart crutches about 3 years, at the time of purchase you could get replacement arms as they come in different colours, my pair are now starting to fade, so I contacted the company as I could not see anywhere on there web site the replacement arms, I was then told they are now made in one piece and you can no longer get the replacement arms and if they are fading that the sticks are no longer any good, so in short you have to pay for a brand new set, and the sticks I have purchased have in effect only lasted 3 years, they are nice to use, supportive and do the job, I do get many compliments although big and a bit awkward when trying to find a place to put them , but are they really made to last? I don’t think so, so at £140 a pair, you have to decide. Good to see a review on them.

    • @theampedlife
      @theampedlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I'm disappointed to hear that you can't get parts... i find it regrettable that the support for the product is lacking. My pair is still going strong, they've been through the wars and still serving me well. I hope that you find a solution - have you tried to contact the company directly? The owner's surname is Albertyn, perhaps an email directly to him?

    • @CCTippers
      @CCTippers 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris, I did contact the company via email and they said head office don’t allow them to sell the arms separate anymore, my crutches are still ok just the pink has faded a not so vibrant, I do love them and they are brilliant crutches I just wish you could still get to replace the arms and refresh them, thank you for your advice and I will email the chap you mentioned it’s worth me trying again, I would ideally love every colour going.

      @@CCTippers Sorry, but talking down a product because the color has faded is kind of lame. There is nothing wrong with your crutches and you want to replace them because of "fading"? LoL, okay! If a product like this lasts more than 3yrs of hard use and all it's showing is a bit of color fading, I think you have an amazing product!

      Hi, thank you for your message, and for sharing your difficulties.
      This is a good question, and Im sorry to day I don't have a definitive suggestion for you.
      I'll do my best though, from what Ive seen with other amputees with a similar issue and speak to some of them.
      Our ams play a big role in helping with balance, so I imagine in the absence of this you will have to find another way to help with balance and stability.
      I hope that someone else on the channel will see your message, and also send a response to you. Please join our next live streaming event and ask this question, real time in the comments, someone out there will have good advise.

      Yeah I'm kinda curious how they compare. I use the mobility designed crutches and they work great for me to go long distances. I went for them instead of the smart crutches just because price was just a bit better. Wonder if I made the right choice or not. Definitely superior to loftstrand crutches or underarm crutches.
