What is Silent Hunter III?

Out of all the moments in this series so far, I think those Avengers popping up out of nowhere was the scariest. Looking forward to more!

One minor point; if you go underwater by choice and under control, that submerging. Sinking is still bad in a submarine.

Later in the war when the USA was running the escort carriers in hunter-killer groups the TBM Avengers would be equipped with 2 depth charges and an acoustic homing torpedo. The latter of which was so secret that they were told not to use it if anyone, even an allied ship or aircraft could see when they dropped it.

In the Book Hunt for Red October a submarine avoided a torpedo by doing emergency blow during big storm. The confused torpedo percieved the waves as ships, it leaped out of the water a few times then hit it hard enough to explode if I remember correctly.
I have never read the book believe it or not. I have only seen the movie. Right now I am reading Blind Mans Bluff. It is a Cold War sub book. I just started it but so far so good.

The smaller vessel might be a Corvette or Frigate ! An escort could be trouble.. As could be a few aircraft from an escort carrier. A converted merchantman !

What you can do is time one minute & 5 seconds, measure the distance and multiply it by 3 works well when the target is close

Tha rank system in GWX is a bit silly. The standard rank for Uboat-Commanders was Kapitänleutnant (Lieutenant commander, Kriegsmarine equivalent to captain).
Also his WO was already an Oberleutnant before he was, lol!

Hello, if you looking for boat with almost infinite range and do you have set historic availability for U-boats in SH3 Commander, since January 1943 is available IXD for 12.flotilla in Bordeaux or for 10.flotila in Lorient(later Penang/Jakarta).
And as one of those people who don´t understand why are you keeping this 3.5cm heavy flak gun, I am asking: is possible to change it later for that fast flak gun with four barrels(i forgot it´s name)? I know that 3.5cm heavy flak gun is highy effecient against sloops, but still.
Also, do you have in SH3 Commander set option Realistic career lengtht or you want try make it to the end of the war?

never use steam powered Torpedoes on a destroyer because they can see where you fired it from you always use electric powered and only an electric torpedo on a destroyer because if you miss he won't even know you shot at him anything over 15 knots and his sonar is pretty much useless

British sub Conquerer hit the argentine destroyer Belgrano with 3 torpedoes 3 hits soda fountain effect most were killed there and the bow was taken clean of 1982 Falklands war
Corrections:
On 2 May 1982, the British Churchill class nuclear attack submarine HMS Conqueror hit the Argentine light cruiser ARA General Belgrano (ex-USS Phoenix, Pearl Harbor veteran) with 2 Mk.VIII** (WW2-era) straight-running torpedoes.
A 3rd torpedo missed the cruiser and hit one of the two escorting Argentine destroyers, the ARA Hipólito Bouchard (ex-USS Borie), but very fortunately for the destroyer, that torpedo was a dud.
323 of the Belgrano's crew died, 275 of them instantly from the impact of the second torpedo which penetrated deep into the ship's aft engine room before exploding. The blast wave went upward through 3 decks, into 2 crew messes and a relaxation area the crew called 'The Soda Fountain'), which was why the death toll was so high.
The Belgrano immediately lost all electrical power and began to sink. She might have remained afloat if the Argentines hadn't neglected to shut her watertight doors (the same reason why the British aircraft carrier Ark Royal was lost to a single torpedo hit back in 1941.)
I have all Sh series. I like 3 and 4.

The actual translation is "We got out smoothly, like a poop out of a horses arse". The Germans like a funny comparison to give situations a humorous image. Even more so when it's a bad situation.
@@lastpenny849 That's the word for word translation, the implied meaning is that they're just lying there in the sun baking and smelling sitting in a boat with lots to eat, not having to march everywhere. It has very little to do with getting out with inches to spare. A more English understanding would be that they've scored a great gig - fein raus. Edit: Sitting pretty (while there is a war on and the alternative are anything but pretty/sitting pretty during what is generally a mess.)
Quick question: Does this game work on windows 10 or not? I have heard complaints about it but I have also heard that some people got it to work. I am thinking of buying either SH 3 or 4.
Yes you can get both to work on WIN 10. You just need to run in compatibility mode.

Yes you can! ARB WideGui 1920x1080 V3 lets you run in a higher resolution. There are no mods for ultra-wide as far as I know

How come you set the draft so much lower then the targets keel?
I am using magnetic pistols so the torpedo will detonate underneath the keel of the target.
@@Wolfpack345 but wouldn’t closer to the hull be better? In SH5 I usually set the magnetic to run just underneath the hull. I dunno if that’s wrong if there should be more space left like you do or what do you think?
@@MajorHyman Just looking here and it seems the draft of the Granville was 6.1 meters and I set my torpedo to run at 7 meters. Especially with these rougher seas it may have been better to run even deeper due to how the ship is bouncing around. Closer to the hull is not really better due to how the underwater explosions effect the ships hull. These explosions are quite bit, something to keep in mind.
