Jail? How old are you? I know your parents threaten you with jail a lot, but no, no one is going to jail for typing letters into a video game for amusement.
Surprised no one mentioned the "love you long time" greeting on Barbara in the review copies, itself a reference to an Asian stereotype (originating from a Vietnamese prostitute's dialogue in the 1987 film Full Metal Jacket). Given that this was in 2008, around the waning days of the "lol so edgy" brand of humor's popularity, my guess is that either a staff member at Nintendo of America or someone they communicated with inserted the racially offensive dialogue to amuse themselves, and didn't realize the data for it would transfer into other review copies. Either that, or they were aware and let it spread as a "prank."
This also happened to me with the official Nintendo's village in New Leaf! They let everyone know their dream code so you could visit them anytime you want. And this cub villager called Tammy literally had her catchphrase as "I fuck you". This thing didn't go viral and I guess I was the only one who got to know this. Maybe that game was lately sold to a dude and he just did what we always do with catchphrases lol, but it was the official Nintendo village until their dream code expired. Christ, could you actually imagine someone else's villager moving into your town and their catch phrase being something like THAT?? Especially if you had no beforehand knowledge of it, like you get a new villager and you go to greet them because y'know so you talk to them and they're like "hi! I just moved from whateverville! It's nice to meet you, **n word** (can't say it cuz I'm white)!" And you're just like ??¿¿????¿?? WHAT???????
I would be laughing my a** off . Ideas for new horizons . Ideas of surnames for you by your favorite villager : baka , you IDIOT , capitalist , sjw , fucker .
Like they said, the data transmits, so if someone at Nintendo played animal crossing at work - for example during their lunch - while that stuff went on, it's possible it bled into those review copies. I love stories like this
I think you're right about them having cloned the save file. Then they just mentioned that wireless catchphrase feature to try to misdirect blam. It probably was an employee, either they did it on purpose, or that employee didn't know that their save would end up being cloned and sent to reviewers. I heard that Nintendo has a game library that employees can just borrow any game they've ever made. So likely, that employee borrowed it to play on their own, didn't erase the save file when they were done, and returned it. Then when Nintendo needed to give out those for review copies, it was probably most convenient to copy a save from their game library. Also I think that wireless catchphrase feature actually is in the retail game. I think if you vist another player's town via local wireless, your villagers have a chance to learn a catchphrase from one of theirs. But, that wouldn't necessarily end up being the same villager, and every town isn't even guaranteed to all have Baabara.
Hell, it could've even been an employee testing the capabilities of the censor in preparation for coding City Folk and didn't think to remove it after.

WHAT???????
furious running to isabelle to tell her about a problematic villager
jere! I have a villager on my island, he’s name is Jerome the weird thing is his catch phrase is “ey yo wazup nigga”
I would be laughing my a** off . Ideas for new horizons .
Ideas of surnames for you by your favorite villager : baka , you IDIOT , capitalist , sjw , fucker .

@@reallyreallymean That's how mafia work
Like they said, the data transmits, so if someone at Nintendo played animal crossing at work - for example during their lunch - while that stuff went on, it's possible it bled into those review copies.
"Yo man I got some family friendly game what should I do?
"Idk just put in the n-word that would be funny."

"Why are Ninjas with nunchucks outside my house?"
Now I'm picturing ninjas armed with Wii nunchucks.
Yeah. *pictures Ninja the Fortnite player with numchucks*

The thumbnail should say, "Baaaaaa-d word!"
Oh! Now I know why there is an option to report villigers in new leaf
I first knew about this controversy from randomly scrolling through Animal Crossing Wiki when I was a kid...
*baabara was in my island in new horizons....i am more happy then i’ve ever been to get her out.*
Well in tomodachi life, you can make em say all kinds of things. Like “Pretard” or “aßhole”, with “ß” being the phonetic representation of “s”
L00PdeL00P Seriously? That...that really pisses me off they can say pretard. Ew.
I'm starting to be interested in this game ...
@@poissonmulti-taches2742 It's a really fun game. You can get around some of the sensors by spelling words differently like "fuk" or "shid"
Not really much depth in the game by making them swear, but it's funny when you forget about it and don't expect your mii to swear at you when you open your game
Imagine just walking up to the villager and start talking to her and she just says "What's good my n***a!"
lol
I remember one of these videos but in a Mario Party game with the word "spastic"
That's not a swear word. Some people have decided it's a slur because kids will call each other anything.

I have like 10 of those suffocation pokéballs. I’ve had them since I was little and I tried to sell them at one point, but it turns out they were recalled and EBay wouldn’t let me
Technically she already has the N word Pass from herself so guys it’s all cool chill
Wait hold up. They changed the catchphrase of the sheep to the N word with accent marks and then complained that Nintendo was the racist one?
No. The review copies of Wild World were sent out with that change already in place. Meaning whoever created the save that was cloned to the carts that was sent out(this all being done by Nintendo) changed that phrase.
Yet nobody’s saying anything about the “Me love you long time” reference
That's because nobody cares about other races except blacks because apparently they are the only ones that people can be assholes to lmao

baabara: i’m about to ruin this whole man’s career
I always made my animals say horrible things and they would move to others towns 😂😂
Joshua Fink sometimes they move to your friends town 😂
Baabara was one of my starter villagers in Wild World, which I started playing after New Horizons came out since I have a DS and wanted to experience the older games. It makes me laugh knowing this because in my town she's such a sweetie, albeit very blunt and opinionated.
Nintendo: And how do we greet the people
Baabara: How are you, N****
Nintendo: NO!
(It’s supposed to be a therapy meme parody lmao)
But does she have the N word pass?🤔
Someone should make a video on that.
She has brown skin...
@Guy Ghoul it's a joke you fuckstick.
Guy Ghoul her rights got taken tho smh😔
She does as well dew i
Omg, I got Barbara in my ACNH island from an auto fill and when googling her personality type, I had no idea why one of the first recommended searches was “Barbara n word”
This is more understandable than how you suffocate on a pokeball
The pokeball probably couldn’t fit in a kid’s throat, I am so confused as well. The pokeball incident would be the dumbass kids’ fault that they choked on a plastic sphere
"...Pokéballs that could cause suffocation..."
Any item of that size "could cause suffocation"...
Zerosiini it was because it could fit over a mouth and nose at the same time when it was open
